I think that we all try to be reasonable and non judgemental. However, I do think we can be labelling and bias at times. I was just discussing in private, with dh , my own pet peeve. He was quite taken aback .. he never judges , is mostly fair . Its made me wonder if many of us have quiet little unreasonable ( and are aware of ) thoughts and judgements .. ?! Meant to be light hearted.😂

For having owned a lovely rescue staffie who was off lead all the time, the most loving and obdient dog I've ever had?

OK 😂

I think you're getting me mixed up with another poster then. I would never judge someone for owning a staffie!
DottyDoom · 15/05/2021 09:31

Oh you're absolutely right. You replied to that poster 🙈 need more coffee! Sorry.

BeneathYourWisdom · 15/05/2021 09:39

I cant tell you how glad I dont know you. You've made my Friday just knowing I havent got someone like you in my life. So thank you

I assume you either own/breed bull breeds, have astroturf and a trampoline, feed foxes, or are selfish about shift swapping at work/don’t understand being part of a team? Or all of the above?

I HOPE I don’t know you in RL but one can never be sure.
I know plenty of people who have/do these things or some of them. Every team has at least one person who waxes lyrical about how she/he annoys neighbours by accident and has no idea why they keep getting complaints about trampoline/foxes/flooding, or complain they don’t feel integrated at work... but it’s not really appropriate to explain why to a colleague. When I tried to explain the shift issue she screeched at me that her Leave is ‘sacred’ and she only swaps days to preserve her Leave. I pointed out our line manager had approved the swap to provide cover. So she insisted I was lying until I showed her the minutes from the meeting (which she’d attended and the swap was clearly documented as helping cover the service 😂) Then she said line manager must have written it by mistake 🤔

I have genuinely never come across a person irl that complains about or has issue with a trampoline (in a back garden). MN is an odd place.

When we got one I mentioned it to our neighbours first and they were surprised I'd even considered it an issue, if they're out in their gardens while we are they'll say how lovely it is to see or hear the kids playing- and we have an odd shaped street so have 5 houses who can see or hear us and all elderly.

DottyDoom · 15/05/2021 10:34

We've never had an issue with ours either. Our neighbours on one side come out in the garden specifically to speak to the kids when they see them outside playing and the other side has told me several times how nice it is to see kids playing outside the houses again as all our neighbours kids are grown up.

No worries! Maybe we would get on!
KrystalKendal · 15/05/2021 11:06

I think you have too much time on your hands if you have time to judge such minor things and then write about it.

DottyDoom · 15/05/2021 11:08

You can come to my raised decking and drink wine whilst the DC jump on the trampoline. I'm afraid I don't have a staffie now but do have a lab, I'll borrow a wee staff for the day Grin

We could make it a Friday afternoon, I can take TOIL as I've been working overtime (at home) Wink

Sounds like a bloody good plan. I'll bring some Greggs sausage rolls! My collies best mate is a staffie, I can borrow him and walk them both off lead the whole way!
BumCat · 15/05/2021 11:22

Staffies are wonderful dogs I judge people who blanket judge them.

I always rather liked the quote “I don’t trust a person who doesn’t like dogs, but I’ll trust a dog who doesn’t like a person.”

And I'll join with my visible tattoos 😁
LST · 15/05/2021 11:30

Oo I forgot about tattoos! If we wait until the 28th I will come with my new fox tattoo (true story! )

PetuniaPot · 15/05/2021 11:31

Using bias as an adjective.
Sorry op.

My dog judges staffies and all bull breeds 😂

He’s been attacked by staffie crosses several times now (he’s always on a lead as he’s large and unpredictable with dogs). Each time he was attacked he got the upper hand quickly as he’s big, fast and used to be a street dog (rescued). Each time the owners were livid their dog was badly injured! And no I did not pay their vet bills. Mine was on a lead and they failed to stop theirs attacking. I reported one to the police who seized it and euthanised it thanks to the body cam footage of it attacking my dog.

Now every time he sees an off lead staffie or bull breed he gets ready to fight and I have to hold him between my knees. But I can’t stop another dog getting into his face.

Other owner: ‘don’t worry mine’s friendly’
Me: ‘mine’s not please keep yours away’ (as clearly they haven’t noticed he’s straining at his harness barking and trying to lunge not wanting to play).

So many staffies are not staffies they’re pitbulls or crossed with illegal pitbulls and passed off as staffies. And a high proportion are dog aggressive. So many end up in rescues as the owners can’t cope.

There’s no need to own a dog with the bite power, strength and pain tolerance of a staffie (or staffie cross) unless you want to frighten people or use it to illegally dog fight.
Yet they’re still bred in vast numbers? Why?

I feel sorry for people with smaller dogs who’ve been attacked by bull breeds or who fear walking their dog due to bull breeds out of control. At least my dog can defend himself.

My dog is biased against staffies and anything that resembles one. Judge him if you like 😂🤔

Because they are absolutely brilliant dogs when they have good owners and even the ones that started off with shit lives go on to be absolutely brilliant dogs. My staffie, when we had him got attacked by all sorts of dogs.
DottyDoom · 15/05/2021 12:01

Oh I have some tattoos also.

I'm also partial to a Greg's sausage roll but let's eat it in the street 😋

My dog would disagree 😂

You may think all staffies are brilliant or have the potential to be brilliant. Not many people share that view in my experience.

If staffie types make such brilliant pets why are rescue centres overrun with them, and why do so many dog owners fear them and report attacks from staffies?

I didnt say all. I have a collie now and not all collies are brilliant. All dogs can have issues. The reason they are overrun is because they are overbred and sold as cute puppies and then people discover they can't handle dog ownership. They need a lot of exercise and mind games and people think they can just have them and not train or stimulate them. There are lots of dogs in dogs homes now. Not just staffies. I'm guessing they'll be full of cockerpoos and the like soon as they are the new flavor of the month
DottyDoom · 15/05/2021 12:18

I really don't know anyone that doesn't know that with a responsible owner staffies can be amazing loyal companions.

Or any that don't know any breed can be a problem in the wrong hands.

DottyDoom · 15/05/2021 12:20

If anything I would assume your dog is the bigger issue beneathyourwisdom. Personally I would judge your dog being that reactive to other dogs and assume it wasn't well trained and aggressive.

LST · 15/05/2021 12:21

What dog do you have @BeneathYourWisdom?

Chesneyhawkes1 · 15/05/2021 12:23

I've got tattoos, a trampoline, I love a Greggs sausage roll and I've got a staffy.

I'm doomed 😂😂 my curtains are open though!

DottyDoom · 15/05/2021 12:24

Chesneyhawkes1

Then you are also invited for wine 🍷

Chesneyhawkes1 · 15/05/2021 12:26

@DottyDoom count me in 🙌🏻

My staffy judges black Labradors. Hates them. I can only assume one did him wrong before I adopted him and he holds a grudge
