I think that we all try to be reasonable and non judgemental. However, I do think we can be labelling and bias at times. I was just discussing in private,with dh , my own pet peeve. He was quite taken aback .. he never judges , is mostly fair . Its made me wonder if many of us have quiet little unreasonable ( and are aware of ) thoughts and judgements .. ?! Meant to be light hearted.😂

People who wear half/half football scarves. I judge them harshly.

@Weescht

Well I went to bed feeling like absolute shit after reading this thread last night. Thanks! My house is a mess because I'm busy. Sometimes I forget to open the curtains in a room because I'm busy. Sometimes I eat on the go because I'm busy. Except when it's a Gregg's sausage roll; because they're delicious. There's always a reason. There's a child at our school with a name that was mentioned. What if their mum reads this? And here's what I know: I have plenty of biases. But extending kindness toward strangers is very high on the list of things I seek in a person. I don't care how tidy your house is or that you've never had a sandwich crumb brush your face in the street. If you can't imagine that other people have feelings – enough to not want to slag off their lifestyles on a public thread that they may read – what a shame.
I get this completely. But this thread is meant to be light hearted. Most of what is judged on here, I imagine, would never be played out in RL as overt prejudice. Much of what I judge is used by good, decent, kind people. As long as we don't lose sight of that....
supermoonrising · 14/05/2021 11:15

I don’t usually judge the person, I just disapprove of the action. That said.... I judge a person or company who takes ages to reply to a simple, straightforward business related email enquiry/confirmation (usually with the excuse “sorry, it’s been a hectic couple of weeks”). We’re all busy. Typing out a three line reply would have taken you 30 seconds. Instead, I’ve had to waste ten times that following up.

Oneearringlost · 14/05/2021 11:16
@Oneearringlost and so you should be. People with speech issues don’t choose to have them, and are incredibly self conscious about them. I’ve got two children that cannot pronounce sounds - especially sh and th - properly. One will never be able to pronounce words and letters properly, it’s people like you that mean he doesn’t talk much outside our home Angry
I'm sorry, ConfusedAdultFemale. It was flippant, and I deserved to be pulled up on it.

Franklyfrost · 14/05/2021 11:17

The triad of terrible driving: white paintwork/ 4*4/ bmw. Even having one of the three is a sign of bad driving. I’m not sure if this is me being judgey or a great statistical analysis as I’m yet to be proved wrong.

Oneearringlost · 14/05/2021 11:18

But I would never let them know that it grated on me, so hope that my behaviour would not "mean he doesn't talk much outside our home".

murbblurb · 14/05/2021 11:24

You'll be grateful for the bailiffs if the rental next to you is a drug den...

I judge anyone who drops litter ( including cigarette waste and of course dog crap), who plays music that can be heard outside their own house (use earphones, Dumbo), who revs engines , who uses a mobile while driving ( should be a capital offence) who excretes or vomits in public due to drunkenness , and who forces their religion on their children.

Tattoos,ripped jeans, thick makeup - all look a joke to me but don't affect anyone else so while I won't compliment, I don't care.

DumbestBlond

I cannot believe people don't know this.

Or we do know and have taken up the evolved meaning.

I know that I make many many typoops as I call them

I judge you for 'typoops', that's so twee and unnecessary.

But does "revert" then also retain it's most-known (and understood) meaning? I will admit to being confused, I suppose context is everything.

I have never actually said "typoops" out loud before, just in my own mind.... Just another stage in evolution of the language maybe?
I will also hold my hands up to being "twee" -- occasionally.J

Digressing from the point I was making in my post though - which was that, not ALL apparent spelling mistakes (I also call them spellos....Blush) are made due to ignorance or deliberate incorrect use of the English language. There are many other reasons, and judging someone for it is petty.

OrangeRug · 14/05/2021 11:32

@Tiddleypoms

Mine are.. ( a gin down , so I dare say !) .. people who dont open their curtains. Or half open them at strange angles . Makes me feel irritated . Second. People who allow their dc to eat things in supermarkets. Why ??? Why ??? What is it teaching them ?
I never take my toddler DD to the supermarket without snacks. It's preferable to her throwing a tantrum/trying to shoplift hand sanitizers lol.
mainsfed · 14/05/2021 11:33

DumbestBlond

It seems to have become accepted to use revert to mean reply in some dictionaries.

But I totally agree that not all 'typoops' and 'spellos' are made due to ignorance. I draft contracts all the time and these would be frowned upon, but I wouldn't like to be judged for the odd time I typed 'their' instead of 'they're' on social media, so I tend not to judge others.

Somethingsnappy · 14/05/2021 11:35

I live in the Cotswolds and I see dozens of people everyday dressed up in the 'country look' with what appears to be painstaking care and attention, but are squeaky clean and look like they have never had a muddy walk in their lives. I silently judge them! Similarly, people who drive range rovers or other 4 wheel drives, but refuse to mount the grass verge on a one track road to let another vehicle by.

MindtheBelleek · 14/05/2021 11:42

@RusholmeRuffian

People who wear half/half football scarves. I judge them harshly.
Explain, @RusholmeRuffian do you mean the ones that are issued for a specific game/final whatever, that have both clubs colours on them? I mean, they're awful-looking though so is your average football scarf -- but are you disapproving on aesthetic grounds, or because the wearer isn't demonstrating sufficient commitment to their own club?
MsTSwift · 14/05/2021 11:42

I am in my head an environmental judger. I judge those at the supermarket without their own bags and people sitting in stationary cars with engines running. I also harshly judge loud people because we are not loud and have to listen to them. Playing loud music shouting screechy kids and barking dog - judged.

Genuinely don’t notice or care what people wear or eat or watch though.

majesticallyawkward · 14/05/2021 11:46

@murbblurb I've noticed a trend of younger people playing music on their phones wherever they are. Awful, tinny speakers playing terrible music (well, terrible to me. I'm sure they'd critics my choices), why do they think anyone else wants to hear it? Just pop the headphones in or save it for home!
Same with making calls on speaker, no one else wants to hear your call. There was a younger lad in the doctors waiting room a while ago who went from playing music on speaker to a phone call with his mum which was full of fuck this, fuck that and who he was planning to fight. I outwardly cringed.

Yeah I judge them.

Please, as they say, can you give me an example of using it in a sentence?

Personally, I would never actually type out "their", when I meant "they're" - but it might happen when people use a mode of input on their device, and slips by unchecked. I am far more likely to accidentally use a semi-colon instead of an apostrophe, due to the way I type and my nail catching the wrong key, or missing the caps key, and inputting "@".
I am - for myself - quite the pedant about the use of language, although I am obviously not evolving as "revert"/"reply" has bypassed me altogether. And everything goes to pot when it is late and I cannot see my keyboard properly in the lamplight (not and never have been a touch-typist). Hence, many typoops and spellos.

And yes, I punctuate text messages (although they are nicely decorated with a few emojis) and write emails as though they are letters. I don;t care if I am judged for it, it's just my way of keeping up my (old-fashioned, admittedly) standards Star

Grin See last paragraph - ; instead of ' in "don't" Confused

HavelockVetinari · 14/05/2021 11:53

I try really, really hard not to judge poor spelling and grammar, because:

 1. Not everyone has had the same educational opportunities; and
 2. There are a lot of people with dyslexia and other disabilities that make spelling and grammar difficult.

It's a shitty bias, but at least it's one I'm aware of and can try to do something about.

Cas112 · 14/05/2021 11:54

@ConcernedAuntie

Tattoos - I'm sorry but especially on women. Why would you have something permanently etched into your skin. Tastes change over the years - you wouldn't have your living room decorated the same at 30 as 50.

Niece has a crossbow on her upper arm - something to do with a TV programme she watches I believe. Why? Just why? It's so ugly.

Went to a wedding and one of the bridesmaids had a halfsleeve that looked like a massive bruise. It just spoilt the whole effect. Pretty dresses, hair and makeup and a big black arm!

Everyone's choice to do what they want with their own body I know, but why do something that you are either stuck with for evermore or will be subject to costly and painful removal. Sorry, I just don't get it.

Bet you claim you're not a misogynist as well

You really need it in a sentence?!

I'm known in the family as the spelling geek, but even I occasionally write 'They're house is on my way' instead of 'Their house is on my way.'

RemyMorgan · 14/05/2021 12:03

I am judging the woman sat next to me in the hair salon right this second for loudly playing videos on her phone with no headphones, thereby subjecting the rest of us here who are relaxing quietly to whatever nonsense that she's into!

There is a nice quiet radio playing, a bit of gentle chatter, people are chilling and getting their hair done and Doris over there is totally oblivious!!

mainsfed · 14/05/2021 12:07

Please say something @Remy. It will be fine!

SofiaMichelle · 14/05/2021 12:10

People who speak with an intonation as if everything they say is a question.

It's absolutely everywhere, now!

I mean "revert" vs "reply" Grin (I'm not so dumb - see name - that I need the "their/they're" misuse explaining to me)

It just doesn't work for me.....
Let alone, how differently they are generally used;
"revert to" - "to reply"

But no, I would not actually write it the way you say you do ocaasionally- as a spelling geek, why would you? especially as they actually mean different things. I always "excuse" it whe typed for the reasons I have said regarding meathod of input and autofill etc.
Confused

DumbestBlonde · 14/05/2021 12:24

Oh God - the SECOND part of that message is referring to the use of "their" and "they're" - not revert/reply. I think I have deleted a bit.

I judge those who have to point out peoples gramma! I understand if you’re reading an essay but not when it’s a random forum post.
