Aibu - wedding dress shopping. Busty experts desperately needed

i need serious help! I'm due to get married this July and still have no dress.

Went shopping today and left empty handed and really knocked confidence wise.

I'm a high street size 16 and a 34j

Literally everything I tried on i was hanging out of. They only had sweet heart necklines but honestly - unless you're REALLY busty it's impossible to explain. It really was awful. She kept trying bolero cover ups but they still showed acres of boobs.

I had a little cry when I got home but really need to get sorted. I also have a big saggy tummy which I thought would have been my major hurdle - corsets dresses are amazing for that area.

Can anyone recommend a dress I can buy maybe from a high street store? I just don't feel bridal shop dresses are for me.

You need an off the shoulder dress. I have massive boobs and a long body. Every strapless dress I tried on looked like they were going to fall out.

There is a bridal dress for everyone. You just haven't been to the right shop. Also, yes its 2 months away, but these shops have had no/limited business so I guarantee you someone will want to help you. You need to just be clear of your requirements.

Where are you in the country? I am sure wise MNs out there can give some recommendations.

Workyticket · 10/05/2021 18:44

Happy to buy from anywhere - don't mind the one on the left. Hate the one on the right.

I do appreciate everyone's suggestions. I need to calm down and be sensible. I'm normally horizontally laid back but today has really knocked me

I bought mine from phase eight, monsoon also had a good selection.
You could order a few and try on at home then send the spares back and get a seamstress to adjust it? Good luck

StatisticallyChallenged · 10/05/2021 18:47

Would your budget allow for getting something made? I'm the same sort of size as you and I totally understand.

I renewed my vows a few years ago and had a long silk dress and embroidered tulle cape made for me by a local dress maker - it wasn't cheap but it was within the same range as plenty of wedding dresses. Meant I could have it designed to fit a bra of my choice too.

Dippysnowoman · 10/05/2021 18:49

Have you looked online? I got married in December and got my dress from JJ'S House. It arrived in 4 days. Was actually from there mother of the bride range.
Would highly recommend

I bought a wedding dress from a bridal shop and at the same time had extra fabric ordered in to make it into a wide halter neck. Think I was about a GG/H back then.

Perhaps see if you can speak to a seamstress about alterations before you buy. She might be able to advise what can/can’t be changed.

If it’s your wedding you can turn up in a bin bag and look radiant. Hope you find a dress that makes you feel happy and confident.

FudgeSundae · 10/05/2021 18:53

@Workyticket

Not really - a bin bag at the moment.

I'm so worried about time and don't think I'd be able to find a seamstress and fit in everything that comes with that.

I am also busty and found a seamstress - she started work in April and I got married in June so similar timescales. She was brilliant and my dress was perfect - she even put little clips under the shoulders to keep my industrial strength bra Grin straps in place. I thought it was incredibly cheap too - about £400. It was quite plain ivory silk but that’s what I wanted.

I heartily recommend Annabel at London Bridge in Elephant and Castle.
The shop looks like nothing from the outside, but it's amazing. She picked my dress for me. It fitted so well I didn't need a single alteration.
If you can, make an appointment with her.

London Bride, not London Bridge!!

sorryiasked · 10/05/2021 18:55

How about this one from Asos

I am a 34FF / G and went for an corset style which wasn’t too boobie.

I think a sweet heart neck line can work if it’s one that sits higher up like these:

But avoid ones like this that sit lower:

What’s your budget OP?

My wedding dress was made by the amazing Lucy Tammam, she could make something perfect for you, or they do hire and sample sales - if you could afford it then getting something made just for you is totally worth it (to be honest, dresses in bridal shops are often as expensive if not more so!)

I was due to get married in July too (put it back to next year) but last year when I went wedding dress in January I had the same problem as you. I was a 34jj then, and everything just showed massive piles of jiggly boobies and underarm fat.

I wish you good luck and hope you find something you are happy and comfortable in. I ended up getting my boobs chopped up as it was the last straw in them ruining things for me. I’m now a 36DD! Bit drastic measures type thing, but I needed it for other reasons too.

Jesusmaryjosephandthecamel · 10/05/2021 18:57

@KatherineOfGaunt

I'm fairly busty (EE) and went for a sweetheart neckline but with an illusion thing to make it short sleeve - basically some pretty, sparkly lace. So I got a nice neckline but everything was held up by the top part going over my shoulders!

Mine was vaguely like the photo. Monsoon and John Lewis do fairly good selections.

What an absolutely beautiful dress.

Thanks for the seamstress / shop recommendations but I'm up in the north east.

Thanks everyone for taking the time to help. Planning a pity party and probably a cry in the bath and another look through.

Yhe only one I've not though 'nope' so far is the monsoon off the shoulder one x

I don't know how much help it will be given I got married many years ago but this was mine. Would something of a similar style suit you?
