I’ve posted before about how I am a self confessed shopping addict. I’ve put myself on a semi ban, and I’m allowed to buy necessities for myself or replace makeup items that have ran out but I am not to buy things just because I want them. I have saved almost £1000 in a month, which is frightening! The big “f**k it” purchases (maybe £300) combined with impulsively buying makeup, a new top here and there, chocolate, extra luxuries in grocery shop REALLY mounted up. So last night (I had been drinking) I ALMOST fell into the trap and bought myself a very expensive pair of trainers. I didn’t give in and I still haven’t. The guilt of spoiling how well I’ve done and how much I’ve saved would stop me even enjoying them. I’ll just stick to admiring them from afar. Are there any items you lust after, and technically could afford, but just can’t justify buying?

A motorhome with permanent end bedroom layout.
White teeth.
A really lightweight, many geared bicycle with rear coaster brake...many are only single speed.

Nightbear · 09/05/2021 15:54

This
It’s over £500+ for a 50ml jar of night cream. I treated myself to a beauty advent calendar a couple of years ago and it had a small jar of it in. It doesn’t do anything miraculous or make you look 10 years younger. My skin really loves it. It’s a good night cream. A £500+ good night cream. Every so often I look for it online, think about buying it and then sanity returns. I couldn’t fall for one of the (more) reasonably priced products could I? Even if I won millions on the lottery I think I would still struggle to spend that on what’s basically a nice, soothing moisturiser.

@MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously

A silver and blue topaz ring. It's £100 which isn't expensive for jewellery but is for silver. I can afford it but just can't quite bring myself to get it. I have more rings than I have fingers to put them on - I'm like a bloody magpie and trying to stop because as much stuff as I buy, I'm never happier for it!
Me too. £100 isn’t too much for a silver ring. Just get it!
stillcrazyafterall · 09/05/2021 15:56

Cricut machine. It would be a VERY expensive (£300 +) labelling machine. I have the money- just can't bring myself to do it!

inmyslippers · 09/05/2021 15:56

I really want a soda stream but on a very low budget counting every penny at the moment

mochamacro · 09/05/2021 15:56

A Harley-Davidson 114 Electra Glide Revival

I would get on and never be seen again

ThePluckOfTheCoward · 09/05/2021 15:58

I've wanted a mulberry large Antony bag for years and years and a few years ago realised that I could actually afford one now, yet I still can't bring myself to spend approx £700 on a bag, it seems crazy.

SunnySpills · 09/05/2021 16:03

@Iminaglasscaseofemotion

Oh actually I thought of one. Kitchen knifes. I can not bring myself to buy expensive good ones. I just keep struggling on with the same shitty blunt ones.
I was the same, donkey years old blunt knives that were still in usable nick apart from being blunt. I ended up buying a knife sharpener - best thing I've bought in ages. It transformed my old knives for about £5.

@MaudesMum

iphone 12 mini. I can - nearly - justify it as my current iphone is 6 years old, and won't download new software any more meaning that an increasing number of apps can't be loaded. And it has an incredibly short battery life. But, my god, the price.
I've actually seen one of these recently and maybe it's my terrible eyesight, chunky fingers and lack of coordination but they are tiny, i couldn't even tap the screen without covering most of it with one finger. I mean I covet one but it's just so impractical for me.

On the thread theme, i am not spending any money right now, ive a big house repair to do really soon, but I'm wanting a leather jacket, it's been years since my last one. But I'm being all ruthless about it. It must have a hood, plenty of pockets, be real leather, black, a very good zip and more qualities that I cant even think of.
Not sure if this is so I cant find one and am not tempted or more likely because I have a wardrobe full of outerwear and I truly dont need any more.

First Class (or even Business Class) air fare for long-haul flights.

SpeakingFranglais · 09/05/2021 16:05

An Art Deco preloved 1.25ct diamond engagement ring. I’ve never had an engagement ring, I love it, we can afford it, but I just cannot justify it to myself.

I don’t particular have nice hands, maybe I would splurge the money I did but it just seems such a waste of money.

Fluffycloudland77 · 09/05/2021 16:05

Shutters for the patio doors. I have the cash but I’m saving. Have £115/570 needed in a month.

Opened a new account and everything.

Cowbells · 09/05/2021 16:05

Diptyque verveine candle. They smell out of this world but they are £50 each!

Anotherlovelybitofsquirrel · 09/05/2021 16:06

@SpeakingFranglais ooh photo please!

Jumpingintosummer · 09/05/2021 16:07

@Fastforwardtospring we have a five piece set in original cast iron charcoal. Yes super expensive but on their 15th year and as good as ever!

Ah! I see I am not alone in my longing for such a ring. I got a really cheap engagement ring that I lost long ago. I would love a diamond engagement ring. i have a big birthday coming up but just feel stupid and self indulgent getting one.
Imissmoominmama · 09/05/2021 16:09

I’d like a bivy bag, but I already have a one man tent, so it seems a bit extravagant.

Blossomandbee · 09/05/2021 16:09

I hate my frown lines and would love Botox. I don't care about any other lines but I hate how a frown makes me look. I could afford Botox but I can't justify spending hundreds on something that would need doing again in a few months and might not even work Sad

21Flora · 09/05/2021 16:10

@ThreeLadsPointingAtAStar I’d totally recommend getting them! Country boots are my one thing that I’m more than happy to spend good money on, I’ve had my le chameau wellies and Fairfax & favour explorer boots for about six years now. So comfy and still look new despite almost daily use. The cost per wear must be pennies at this point.

Sparklemummyx0x0x · 09/05/2021 16:14

Dyson hairdryer

ilovesushi · 09/05/2021 16:16

I can't really afford them, but I would love love love new curtains in the living room. The windows are massive and the cost would wipe me out for the month.

RedactedTaeFeck · 09/05/2021 16:17

re kitchen knives, i still have some that I bought when moving into my first flat in 1984. Bog standard from BHS. Lost the paring knife but I have lots of those as it's what I use most. Pick up decent ones in TK Maxx (and a sharpening stick thing) for a few quid.

Otherwise a kitchen devil serrated knife (all purpose knife?) - about £5-6 is brilliant for things like tomatoes and slicing small loaves etc. very useful knife.

RosaBaby2 · 09/05/2021 16:17

Holztiger ark!

lolacola77 · 09/05/2021 16:19

I've been awful for spending lately but only on things I know are worth it such as Elemis skincare.

I bought a knock off 1970 jumper from eBay. The original is not worth the money. I went off Bella Freud when I found out she gives them free to rich celebrities.

I've spent £££ over the years on candles. Spiriti Sancti and Fire Trudon are shite! The only ones worth it are Diptyque and these ones I discovered recently which are sublime

@WeatherwaxLives

A sodastream. The one with the glass bottles. I keep doing the sums per litre of fizzy water from the shop vs from the sodastream, hoping it comes out different Blush

Fabletics leggings. But I know I'd forget to do the skip a month thing and end up paying a fortune...

I came here to say Fabletics!

And it's ridiculous as it is only £24 for two pairs (or whatever the deal is) but I am SO paranoid I would forget to cancel that I won't do it.
