I’ve posted before about how I am a self confessed shopping addict. I’ve put myself on a semi ban, and I’m allowed to buy necessities for myself or replace makeup items that have ran out but I am not to buy things just because I want them. I have saved almost £1000 in a month, which is frightening! The big “f**k it” purchases (maybe £300) combined with impulsively buying makeup, a new top here and there, chocolate, extra luxuries in grocery shop REALLY mounted up. So last night (I had been drinking) I ALMOST fell into the trap and bought myself a very expensive pair of trainers. I didn’t give in and I still haven’t. The guilt of spoiling how well I’ve done and how much I’ve saved would stop me even enjoying them. I’ll just stick to admiring them from afar. Are there any items you lust after, and technically could afford, but just can’t justify buying?

I want a big fancy egg chair...it would never get used and end up full of felt tip
But I want one soooo bad!

Whatevernext1 · 09/05/2021 16:25

I would love:

Invisalign braces

A platinum and diamond Harry Winston ring

A Lexus SUV

A Chanel handbag

A Louis Vuitton scarf

Luxury holiday including first class flight when it's safe to do so

New bedroom furniture, might as well decorate at the same time!

None of these I will be able to afford 😂

PurpleWh1teGreen · 09/05/2021 16:25

A magimix. Was actually looking at them about 5 years ago and DH thought he'd surprise me with a Kitchenaid. Well meaning, but not what I wanted.

Hate the Kitchenaid and almost never use it as I have a brilliant hand electric mixer. Can't really justify the magimix as well though.

More mundanely, easiglide baking trays. Which are amazing, but expensive. You can't really ask for a baking tray for your birthday either.

IncyWincyGrownUp · 09/05/2021 16:25

I’d like a cast iron casserole dish, and a decent stand mixer.

I’m being sensible though, and paying somebody to clear my garden instead.

First Class (or even Business Class) air fare for long-haul flights

Business is not always as expensive as you might think, if you’re willing to do a short stop over. I’ve now flown a few times with KLM to Japan, via Amsterdam (usually only an hour or so stop over). I pay around £1600 as opposed to around £800 economy. For me it’s well worth it because my body just can’t take 12 hrs in economy anymore. I end up in tears with the pain. I’ve also had cheap business deals with Qatar air (that was amazing!) and Japan airlines.

Thanks to the posters who answered me re the tricycle! I’m giving it serious consideration now!

Congressdingo · 09/05/2021 16:29

@ilovesushi

I can't really afford them, but I would love love love new curtains in the living room. The windows are massive and the cost would wipe me out for the month.
Have you looked at www.terrysfabrics.co.uk/collections/curtains-and-accessories

They have a clearance section too. I bought mine for a big window 90" by 90" for £32 just before Christmas. They are blackout ones too.

Wroxie · 09/05/2021 16:34

Those of you longing for handbags and shoes should look into high-end replicas. Not the ones you get from a shifty guy at a car boot sale but the ones you buy through an agent who deals directly with the factories in China (often the same factories that make the 'real' bags). They're still expensive, but more reasonable - a couple of hundred for a bag rather than a couple of thousand. It's not illegal to buy these (though it's very illegal to sell or manufacture them in the UK) and the better ones easily fool even people who work in the real shops and sell them every day.

If nothing else you'll realise very quickly that a huge proportion of the women you envy for their bags are carrying replicas, and you'll probably realise how idiotic you were for wanting one to begin with.

earthyfire · 09/05/2021 16:34

A new phone but I don't want to spend £1200 on the one I like, don't want it on contract either.

SpnBaby1967 · 09/05/2021 16:43

I bought my most desired item last year when I bought my car.

I also splashed out on a Radley Christmas picture bag I had been lusting after. Since we were in lockdown I dont think it ever left the house but I cant wait for xmas to use it again Grin

I'd love seriously decent kitchen knives and pots and pans and utensils etc. We stick with ikea bits at the moment. I dont even cook that often just fed up with crappy knives.

Tummy tuck would be lush. We could afford it, but I'm scared of the recovery etc.

ThreeLadsPointingAtAStar · 09/05/2021 16:45
@ThreeLadsPointingAtAStar I’d totally recommend getting them! Country boots are my one thing that I’m more than happy to spend good money on, I’ve had my le chameau wellies and Fairfax & favour explorer boots for about six years now. So comfy and still look new despite almost daily use. The cost per wear must be pennies at this point.
Arggggh. I was hoping someone would say "don't bother, overpriced hype!"

Perhaps I shall go and try a pair on next weekend.

Eyjafjallajokulldottir · 09/05/2021 16:54
@bridgetreilly I agree with the kenwood kmix (mine is striped too! Think it's the firecracker).

Airwrap - if you have fine hair, it's not worth it! I sent mine back.

iPhone 12 in purple. I upgraded from my XR and the only visible difference is the selfie camera has portrait mode. Other than that, save the money and buy a purple case
Oh I have fine hair and I love my airwrap. Makes my hair look so.much thicker!

MadCattery · 09/05/2021 16:57

Anyone who covets a Kitchenaid should BUY one. I wanted one for years and finally did it and it has changed my life. Even DH is baking now, and this is a man who can barely boil water! I’ve baked and baked for many years and if something had to be mixed for a long while (royal icing!) I felt like I was being held prisoner, having to stand in one spot. Now, I have a machine that does it all and I can step away and measure other stuff, or dice, or get pans ready or get a sip of tea.

Now, I am wanting to re-do my bedroom, from the ceiling to the flooring.

Sparklingbrook · 09/05/2021 16:59

@earthyfire

I am the same. My Iphone battery life is terrible. it's only two year's old and goes from 100% to about 25% in three hours. But the phone works and I have a car charger so I can't justify a new phone but just like to moan about it a lot.
PegasusReturns · 09/05/2021 17:00

Elemis serum. I had some samples from some BA flights that I’d been using. Makes my skin looked great but it’s £260. I just can bring myself to press pay.

AlmostSummer21 · 09/05/2021 17:01

@SinkGirl

A MacBook Air. I’m struggling on with a crappy old Windows laptop for my business but really could do with a better laptop, but not making enough yet to justify it. I have the money but just feel too guilty to blow a grand on something I can just about manage without.
@SinkGirl. It's a business asset & expense. It'll make work easier/faster & possibly mean profits faster.

Besides you of all people deserve anything that'll make life a smidge easier 💐

Whoscoatsthatjacket · 09/05/2021 17:05

A dental implant. £2500.. at least.
I’ve tried a denture but didn’t get on with it at all. I hated it.
Had an adhesive bridge but it broke. I refuse to have a conventional bridge as I don’t want to damage the other teeth.
So only option is an implant. I spoke to my dentist about it last week but feel like I could put that money towards something else. I can just about afford it but I feel bad spending it on myself 😞

21Flora · 09/05/2021 17:06

@ThreeLadsPointingAtAStar they’re great, I work in agriculture so boots get a daily battering. Totally worth the money, just use renapur occasionally and they’ll stay like new.

Monicuddle · 09/05/2021 17:10
 1. A shiatsu massage chair. Like a really fancy one.
 2. A robot lawnmower
 3. A Kawaii baby grand piano
Anotherlovelybitofsquirrel · 09/05/2021 17:11

@Blossomandbee It will work. Also the longer you have it, the less often you'll need it. I have been having Botox for over 10 years and I have it approximately every 8 months. It has changed my face for the better. Do it! You'll never regret it.

Ifeelmuchlessfat · 09/05/2021 17:11

@SinkGirl I’ve bought two MacBook Airs 13” from eBay for my teens. One was £300, the other £400. Both absolutely fine, just need to check the battery recharges.

AdoraBell · 09/05/2021 17:12

I want a Chanel classic flap bag. I could have afforded it 20 years ago but I was pregnant with twins when I went to store, so I didn’t buy it.

Daisy829 · 09/05/2021 17:13

@ThePluckOfTheCoward they usually have a sale in June so keep an eye on that for a discounted antony. Also there are second hand selling pages on Facebook that you could probably get a decent one on. Check out Mulberry buy & sell and mulberry swap and sell I think they are called.

OldTinHat · 09/05/2021 17:17

@sinkgirl Eek, that doesn't sound good. They're quite an investment for a hobby and I've coveted one for a long time. Thanks so much for replying, I'll look at what else there is instead 😱

MrsDavi5 · 09/05/2021 17:19

LindaEllen

I've wanted some GHDs for years and years and have never been able to warrant treating myself when my £30 straighteners I've had since I was a teenager still work.

" I don't think the newer ones are worth it as they're not built to last. I purchased mine for around £100 back in 2004 and they're still going strong. Really, really good investment for me "

Mine are from 2004 too! Still going strong! They're bright pink! Had to go round loads of different hairdressers to find a set when I was 16! Smile

fishonabicycle · 09/05/2021 17:20

Diptique Philosykos perfume ( in fact any expensive perfume) and a Fitbit!
