Is there something you want but just can’t bear to buy?

I’ve posted before about how I am a self confessed shopping addict. I’ve put myself on a semi ban, and I’m allowed to buy necessities for myself or replace makeup items that have ran out but I am not to buy things just because I want them. I have saved almost £1000 in a month, which is frightening! The big “f**k it” purchases (maybe £300) combined with impulsively buying makeup, a new top here and there, chocolate, extra luxuries in grocery shop REALLY mounted up. So last night (I had been drinking) I ALMOST fell into the trap and bought myself a very expensive pair of trainers. I didn’t give in and I still haven’t. The guilt of spoiling how well I’ve done and how much I’ve saved would stop me even enjoying them. I’ll just stick to admiring them from afar. Are there any items you lust after, and technically could afford, but just can’t justify buying?

I’m always aghast that people spend money on night cream when the solution to all your woes is Botox

The solution to all your woes is Botox. There isn’t enough money in the world to persuade me to have it. If money was no object, I’d happily spend big on face cream.

Nightbear · 11/05/2021 14:32

I know Dogoodfeelgood. I’ve got stuff under £25 that gives visible results. It’s just a really lovely cream that doesn’t do anything fancy at an insane price.

Nightbear · 11/05/2021 14:37

I did think that if you used 4 pots a year that would be over £2,000 on what’s basically a nice nighttime moisturiser. I’d rather save the cash for five years and buy a half face lift! I’d imagine that the people who do spend £500 on night cream also have the Botox, fillers and surgery.

A yoga 'arch' frame thing (don't know what they're called) for doing backbends over.
I can just as well use a bolster and blocks, and I do, but I yearn for one of those things still.
Also some lovely violet and/or rose cream chocolates.
New teeth (although what puts me off as well as the money is all the comments I'd have to field about them).
A new kitchen.
A garden room.

This?

Is there something you want but just can’t bear to buy?

I always picture more like:

Is there something you want but just can’t bear to buy?
Nightbear · 11/05/2021 15:27

That looks more sensible. The wheel thing looks good but I could imagine slipping and sending it flying into the tv.

IntermittentParps · 11/05/2021 15:43

Yeah, I can't think how it stays still really!

PuttingOnTheKitsch · 11/05/2021 15:56

Laser eye surgery is so worth it. Had mine done six years ago. No regrets.

Missushbb · 11/05/2021 16:10

@missbunnyrabbit

I deck my entire house out with Oak Furnitureland stuff. Love it but way too expensive.
I do like Oak Furniture land, do you have any wardrobes? Looking at one for my DDs room, my husband says get a cheap one from Ikea but id rather splurge on a real piece of furniture, the one she has now wasnt cheap its a Kub one but falling apart!
lolacola77 · 11/05/2021 16:11

Not everyone wants Botox. I'd never inject poison into my face. It always looks obvious and shit. I know those who have had it will pile on but it really does look ridiculous.

Lookingoutside · 11/05/2021 16:18

A silk and cashmere tracksuit from Olivia Von Halle. It’s called the Missy New York. A pair of their silk pyjamas too Grin

bloodynamechangethe3rd · 11/05/2021 16:19

@ThreeLadsPointingAtAStar

Dubarry boots.

I've actually saved up money for them but just can't bring myself to actually pay that much for a pair of boots. Seems like such a luxury.

These, and the person who said vitamix, don't bother. Vitamix is in a cupboard after the month of soup, and the boots are uncomfortable and not that amazing, I wear a completely knackered pair of Ariats that cost half the price of the dubarrys, comfortable and practical and pretty. Don't bother with the vitamix. Buy the Ariats instead.
billysboy · 11/05/2021 16:29

There is a woman I know that injects Botox into others , she is a qualified doctor
She also has a lot herself and although I never saw the before she looks like her face has been set on fire and beaten out with a shovel it is so swollen
Not a good look

Anotherlovelybitofsquirrel · 11/05/2021 18:00

@lolacola77 ridiculous sweeping generalization there! If it looks shit, it's been done badly.

lolacola77 · 11/05/2021 18:04

It's not just that it's done badly. It looks awful and fake full stop.

Snakeprint · 11/05/2021 18:06

My carpets have seen better days but still have life in them. My kettle is scruffy but works,l.

Anotherlovelybitofsquirrel · 11/05/2021 18:34

@lolacola77 you're clueless Grin

Blossomtoes · 11/05/2021 18:37
@lolacola77 you're clueless Grin
She’s not clueless at all. Increasingly Botox is becoming Marmite. I personally think it’s had its day as everything does as it becomes mainstream and cheaper.

lolacola77 · 11/05/2021 18:38

I'm guessing you're a Botox fan? 😂

Maria1982 · 11/05/2021 20:14

@KFleming not the point of the thread, but I learnt the other day you can get bath dams (!!) to bathe toddlers in. Effectively sits in your bath making it shorter so can fill a section deep using less water

pastaparadise · 11/05/2021 20:48

A diamond ring. Never married, mid 40s a d would love a good diamond. Not spent the money on a wedding, and could easily afford one, but seems too trivial when could pay more mortgage off/ buy for dc etc.

Also vejas and personal trainers. Just seems indulgent. I like the idea of a slush fund for treats, but still think I'd struggle to spend

bellaisle · 11/05/2021 20:58

I'm also not really a 'wanter' and buy very little, but if I do decide on a big purchase I get my OH to buy it. 😊😉.

Without knowing the full price I can remain guilt free. 😊😉😊

peaceanddove · 11/05/2021 21:05

I would really like to sign up for a course of Caci facial treatments because I have bloody jowls! Jowls FFS! But they're really expensive plus the on going upkeep on a monthly basis.

And yet, I've just happily dropped just over £9K for an extended tummy tuck + muscle repair + lipo (happening this Saturday).

Daisy829 · 11/05/2021 21:39

Yay @MagicSummer! What did you get? I’ve got a mini Windsor & it’s lush. They come so well packaged too. It’s a slippery slope though I’m afraid. The shoes are very comfortable too.
