Is there something you want but just can’t bear to buy?

I’ve posted before about how I am a self confessed shopping addict. I’ve put myself on a semi ban, and I’m allowed to buy necessities for myself or replace makeup items that have ran out but I am not to buy things just because I want them. I have saved almost £1000 in a month, which is frightening! The big “f**k it” purchases (maybe £300) combined with impulsively buying makeup, a new top here and there, chocolate, extra luxuries in grocery shop REALLY mounted up. So last night (I had been drinking) I ALMOST fell into the trap and bought myself a very expensive pair of trainers. I didn’t give in and I still haven’t. The guilt of spoiling how well I’ve done and how much I’ve saved would stop me even enjoying them. I’ll just stick to admiring them from afar. Are there any items you lust after, and technically could afford, but just can’t justify buying?

Also wanting sweaty Betty gym gear but can’t justify it. I’d get my money’s worth as well. Reading glasses as I want designer ones and another pair of Tom Ford sunglasses. I love them but can’t justify having 2 pairs!

Pumpkinstace · 10/05/2021 18:52

A set of modibodi.

So much money for something that might not work for me.

Mumoblue · 10/05/2021 18:55

An iPad with an Apple Pencil for doing art. I know so many people with iPads, had no idea how bloody expensive they are! I’m skint, but I’d love to have one to draw on and play around with making art.

A Smart TV. My 15-year-old, or more, Sony telly with a DVD player that even John Lewis has decided to stock no more, are still going strong. Hate the idea of the waste. But I can’t access Netflix etc except by iPad. Not the same watching on there. But it’s probably a silver lining as means I watch a lot less TV!

tinkywinkyshandbag · 10/05/2021 19:08

Fuck me, I'm happy if I EARN £1000 a month, let alone SAVE £1000 a month just by not buying crap. And yes it is all crap really - even Jo Malone candles.

Bearseatbeets · 10/05/2021 19:14

@KickBishopBrennanUpTheArse. It does work!! well worth it!

Tommo75 · 10/05/2021 19:14

@kickBishopBrennanUpTheArse I have a Phillips Lumea and they're worth every penny. The freedom to not feel self conscious in a swimsuit and to have no moustache is priceless to me. I wouldn't be without one now.

The other day I went into a local hardware store because I need a new yard broom. Can’t be bothered to go to Wilco for it and thought I would support a local company. All well and fine until just as I was walking out of the shop with it he pointed out that it needed to have an additional screw to stabilise the head onto the stick. I said, “oh , I’ll take another one then.”

No, they all needed an additional screw (not supplied but that isn’t the issue, except it is a bit) to stabilise the head onto the stick.

I still need a yard broom. But I want one that is complete, not requiring emergency surgery before I can use it. And I am incidentally perfectly capable of screwing a screw into a broom handle. But I took umbrage.

@Meruem

A Samsung fold. Technically I could afford it but couldn’t ever justify spending £1600 on a phone. Especially as I barely use mine! (Always use iPad for browsing etc). Don’t even work out of the house anymore so it would really be a waste,
OMG me too, I have never been bothered by a phone, but I really like this one

I could spend the money, but 1600 quid on a phone - nuts

I work from home, have a work phone and my own phone, tablets, computers - but this on is just beautiful (to me anyway)

I for one enjoyed your broom story, and am OUTRAGED at how badly Big Broom is letting down the broom-buying public.

Thankyou . If you think about it it’s not just one screw, it’s many many thousands of screws that we are paying for but not being provided with. As you say, Big Broom letting down the broom buyers of the nation, or the world. You could say they are screwing us all the way to the bank.

A Motorhome

@JeremyIronsBenFolds

I really want some Grenson boots, have the money but just can’t do it. I’m sure they’re lovely quality but I find it really hard to spend £300 on some shoes. And yet last month I bought some Slendertone shorts for the princely sum of £100 and have used them a grand total of once. I really don’t understand myself sometimes...
They do really really good sales sometimes. I bought a pair of boots a couple of months ago for approx 100.

I desperately want an air fryer . Everyone says how wonderful they are and how much better food tastes

gemgemgemgemgem · 10/05/2021 19:50

Sage coffee machine

FiddlefigOnTheRoof · 10/05/2021 19:55

Oh loads and loads. We have a high income but try really hard not to buy ‘things’ just for fun. I’m still on Nivea face cream and the occasional sale dress. I don’t want to splurge now and be in poverty age 60.

Travel and food and ‘experiences’ - we still splurge on them.

prettylittlestar · 10/05/2021 19:56

Anything designer. I'm one for a proper bargain! Maybe that's why I was never popular on the school run. They were all into designer stuff like ted baker 🙈

FiddlefigOnTheRoof · 10/05/2021 19:57

@Lovely13 we had a similar tv to yours and just bought a Google chromecast. Then you can cast Netflix/Disney plus etc without a smart tv.

Me too. I can't though because my past history of buying but not using kitchen appliances past the first go is shocking.
BlackSwan · 10/05/2021 20:00

To the lady aspiring to buying period pants. That's really dire.

Leontine · 10/05/2021 20:00

Not an object but I’ve wanted to have electrolysis for years.

toffeebutterpopcorn · 10/05/2021 20:01

No you need one (get a ceramic one). Oh yes, and an electric pressure cooker.

VenusClapTrap · 10/05/2021 20:02

I yearn for a Nissan Figaro. But I know it would just have endless problems. So cute though!

the80sweregreat · 10/05/2021 20:07

Implants for two teeth.
4K is too much though. Cant justify it.
