I’ve posted before about how I am a self confessed shopping addict. I’ve put myself on a semi ban, and I’m allowed to buy necessities for myself or replace makeup items that have ran out but I am not to buy things just because I want them. I have saved almost £1000 in a month, which is frightening! The big “f**k it” purchases (maybe £300) combined with impulsively buying makeup, a new top here and there, chocolate, extra luxuries in grocery shop REALLY mounted up. So last night (I had been drinking) I ALMOST fell into the trap and bought myself a very expensive pair of trainers. I didn’t give in and I still haven’t. The guilt of spoiling how well I’ve done and how much I’ve saved would stop me even enjoying them. I’ll just stick to admiring them from afar. Are there any items you lust after, and technically could afford, but just can’t justify buying?

Have been saving for years to replace my car. Could afford to do so but my 16 year old Audi a2 has basically spent the last 18 months sitting on the driveway, starts first time, runs smoothly and has ridiculously low mileage for its age so really can’t bring myself to part with it.

heather2908 · 10/05/2021 17:45

A kitchenaid. I could techno afford one but just can’t bring myself to spend that much money on something that realistically I won’t use much (or I would use it and end up like a house side from eating so much homemade cake!)

heather2908 · 10/05/2021 17:46

*technically Grin

id love a new sofa, i can afford it, but my existing sofa is more than ok i just NEEEEED a new one, have resisted for a year now.

JamCrackers · 10/05/2021 17:57

There is ALWAYS a high end perfume on my wish list, but if I ‘treat myself’ to one, another just takes its place on my list...so I have to be REALLY strict with myself.

Currently I’m longing for a couple of the Chanel Exclusifs. I’m applying g for some getter paid jobs at the moment and have promised myself I’ll buy one IF I get one of them.

Regularsizedrudy · 10/05/2021 17:58

Laser eye surgery :(

IdblowJonSnow · 10/05/2021 17:59

@Putitinthebin
It is not absolutely selfish of you to want straight teeth! I know what you mean but also think children shouldn't always come first. What message does that give them?

Dizzybet74 · 10/05/2021 18:00

I'm not good at justifying big money in things but I do love my red KitchenAid and it has had so much use since I bought it - buy one of you keep thinking about it. I also treated myself to a Dyson hairdryer and although better than my old hairdryer I don't especially rate it personally.

Spaceshiphaslanded · 10/05/2021 18:00

For the last 20 years I have wanted a real Hudson’s Bay blanket. I don’t even know why - but I have really wanted it! Only catch is I would have to fly to Canada to buy it (in the UK). Oh and it’s quite a lot of money for a blanket.
But I love the idea of having it forever, and my kids having and my grandkids....

Meh I’m sure I’ll buy it one day!!

@ivfbabymomma1

I've been savings for ages to get my husband a Breitling for his 40th. I saved early in case anything went wrong along the way and I now have the money a year in advance, the temptation to spend it & worry about it later is strong!!!
Get an Omega, better quality and hold their value (and not as 'common' as a Rolex!).
Runmybathforme · 10/05/2021 18:01

A Lumea. I’d love one, but can’t justify the cost. If I could try it out first so I could be sure it works , I would save up, but I worry I’d spend all that money for nothing.

peppermintpat · 10/05/2021 18:03

@NigelWithTheBrie79

A Dyson fan A Dyson hairdryer
Got both, Dyson fan overpriced but looks good (struggles in a medium sized room). The hairdryer is just ok, still prefer my weighty Parlux.

@VQ1970

A Mont Blanc fountain pen. I've nearly bought one a couple of times but when I've actually held it in my hand and felt how light it is, I can't bring myself to buy it. If I'm spending hundreds on a pen, I want something weighty in my hand.
Try other Mont Blancs, there are some beautifully weighty ones. Swoons.

Also advocate buying the KitchenAid and the Lumea but avoid the horse at all costs (just from my experience!). Grin

Sackofspuds · 10/05/2021 18:16

I think we should buy a Tesla but can’t bring myself.

Carlottagiudicelli · 10/05/2021 18:24

@bridgetreilly I don't do any kind of needlework, but I want that!

tommyhoundmum · 10/05/2021 18:28

A patio heater

SunnySpills · 10/05/2021 18:29

I've wanted my teeth straightening for years. I used to have nice
straight teeth but heavy duty teeth grinding at night has badly misshaped them. But I couldn't justify spending all that money on myself.

Fast forward and I took the plunge and had a brace fitted last week.
It's bloody agony but fingers crossed I have straighter teeth at the end of it.

ScreamingBeans · 10/05/2021 18:30

A fitbit or smart watch.

Mainly becuase I have no clue why they;re so different in price, so even after googling them I can't bring myself to commit.

clare8allthepies · 10/05/2021 18:31

An Xbox series x, not that they’re ever in stock anywhere. DH got a voucher as a reward from work and I was hinting at putting it towards one but it fell on deaf ears! 🤣

Gilly12345 · 10/05/2021 18:39

A private number plate for my car, I can easily afford one but prefer knowing the money is saved for a rainy day. 😀😀😀

Pumpkinstace · 10/05/2021 18:41

A dress from run and fly, it's only 40 quid but am indulgence all the same.

Some adidas superstar trainers.

My front tooth. It's missing and is quite like the gap filling with an implant.

TinselTinsel · 10/05/2021 18:42

There are lots of things I'd like but can't (won't) justify for myself, my son on the other hand, I can spend whatever whenever on him!

Poppys · 10/05/2021 18:43

For those dreaming of a Kitchenaid, I couldn’t bring myself to spend over £500 but managed to get a refurbished one from Kitchenaid direct on eBay. Combined with a discount code I got the baby blue colour for under £350! It is perfect and I love it!

Covert19 · 10/05/2021 18:44

If I spent all the money we've put aside for one child's school fees I could afford my dream grand piano.

It will remain a dream.

Etherealhedgehog · 10/05/2021 18:45

Jo Malone tuberose angelica perfume - a friend gave me a sample bottle and I love it but just can't imagine spending that much on perfume (which I don't wear regularly anyway). In terms of what I would love but cannot afford - nice, vintage furniture for the flat we are hopefully buying this year, and a beautiful mismatched set of kitchen ware, and nice glasses, including some vintage cocktail glasses.
