I’ve posted before about how I am a self confessed shopping addict. I’ve put myself on a semi ban, and I’m allowed to buy necessities for myself or replace makeup items that have ran out but I am not to buy things just because I want them. I have saved almost £1000 in a month, which is frightening! The big “f**k it” purchases (maybe £300) combined with impulsively buying makeup, a new top here and there, chocolate, extra luxuries in grocery shop REALLY mounted up. So last night (I had been drinking) I ALMOST fell into the trap and bought myself a very expensive pair of trainers. I didn’t give in and I still haven’t. The guilt of spoiling how well I’ve done and how much I’ve saved would stop me even enjoying them. I’ll just stick to admiring them from afar. Are there any items you lust after, and technically could afford, but just can’t justify buying?

Oh my goodness that is amazing!
Howshouldibehave · 09/05/2021 20:12

I would like a Dyson fan, wooden blinds in the lounge/main bedroom and a lovely large kitchen extension!

Myfirstcarwasamini · 09/05/2021 20:15

A Dyson Airwave even though many people on here have said don't bother. I won't buy it. I'll just continue to get the round brush tangled in my fine but ridiculously thick hair and carry on looking a bit crap some days.

Letsgetstarted · 09/05/2021 20:16

I put off buying a kitchen aid mixer but then last year we got one best thing I've bought Smile well worth the money

Letsgetstarted · 09/05/2021 20:17

Mulberry handbag can't justify the cost, bought a Meg and Bee bag instead and I use it every day love it

notalwaysalondoner · 09/05/2021 20:21

Loads of things, because I’m the opposite to you in terms of shopping personality - despite being very well off I still weigh up carefully literally all purchases unless the item is a real bargain. It’s how I was raised as both my parents grew up poor. Off the top of my head, a Kitchenaid, high end clothes and shoes (rarely pay more than £30 for an item of clothing and £50 for shoes), expensive pram for new baby (I’ll probably get it off Facebook), an Aga.

HelenHywater · 09/05/2021 20:27

I'm not good at buying myself jewellery or underwear.

Also I want to buy a steam cleaner for my sofa. But it's just such a boring purchase, I can't bring myself to press buy.

Anotherlovelybitofsquirrel · 09/05/2021 20:39

@HelgaHybrid sorry, nowhere near!

Anotherlovelybitofsquirrel · 09/05/2021 20:46

But @HelgaHybrid do make sure you see their work, read their reviews! I go to an amazing Doctor. Let me know how you get on 😊

HeartshapedFox · 09/05/2021 20:52

I would absolutely love a Bramwell Brown weather clock, but I just can’t justify £300 on it.

Truthlikeness · 09/05/2021 20:53

@AnxiousPixie

Laser eye surgery
I had this done several years ago. I told myself it would pay for itself eventually once you add up the cost of glasses and contacts, which it probably would. It's incredible and I've never once regretted it.
Piglet92 · 09/05/2021 21:03

I really wanted an ipl hair remover. I caved ConfusedWink

MolyHolyGuacamole · 09/05/2021 21:27

@speakout

I don't lust after stuff. I could easily afford lots of things but buying overpriced rubbish or a fortune on cosmetics brings me no pleasure. I earn twice as much as I need to live.

I really need a steam cleaner for my furniture. Where on earth would I get such a thing?!
Blossomtoes · 09/05/2021 22:06

@Iminaglasscaseofemotion

There is honestly no clothing/accessory/make up or any other luxury item that I would waste a lot of money on.
It’s not a waste if it sparks joy.
MiddlesexGirl · 09/05/2021 22:10

^^ This. Doesn't matter if you never wear it Blush

For me - cosmetic surgery - boob lift and tummy tuck

Cabernetto · 10/05/2021 09:56

@KikiniBamalam I have the Rachel Simpson website open right now. Six months to go until the wedding. I will definitely crack before then!

Anyone saying superkingsize bed, do it! I sleep so much better with the extra space, genuinely life changing (in a small way).

I think you should crack, the shoes are beautiful.

@Lunariagal

Kitchenaid stand mixer
@Lunariagal - completely missing the point but I felt the same but then bought one last year and it has completely changed my life.

If I calculate my per hour salary - the hours I have saved in not kneading dough and not mixing cake batter have been far in excess of the cost of the mixer and I wish I had bitten the bullet and bought one a decade ago.

OnceUponAThread · 10/05/2021 10:14

@Freshprincess

Sweaty Betty leggings. I hear how amazing they are and I run a lot so would definitely get my money’s worth. But £75 seems insane amount to wear for an hour and then chuck them in the wash. Can’t quite bring myself to click purchase.
@Freshprincess I asked for some for Christmas and I really, really like them. Completely agree that they're extortionate though and even though I want another pair I cannot at all bring myself to do it.
OnceUponAThread · 10/05/2021 10:18

@lidoshuffle

I put £50 a month into a "treat" account, and it adds up over the months.

I am not allowed to spend it on anything sensible - MOT etc. I must blow it on things I'd feel were too extravagant to use 'ordinary' money for. This treat stash is my pot of money for guiltless luxuries.

Love this idea. My fear is that all the lovely things I would promise myself would be greater than the sum of the treat account.
OnceUponAThread · 10/05/2021 10:24

To the self-employed people who want a Mac. If you've got a Ltd company it comes out of pre-tax - so you save 19% in corporation tax, not to mention getting the VAT back. Suddenly seems quite reasonable.

(Can't remember who to tag annoyingly).

OnceUponAThread · 10/05/2021 10:26

I think mine has to be the Dennis Gross Spectralite. I am convinced it is the answer to ALL my skincare woes. But it is ludicrously expensive.

I'd love to have a whole bunch of money that I could throw at a personal stylist and just ask them to totally kit out my wardrobe (everything from underwear upwards) with clothes, accessories and shoes that fit me well and look good on my body shape/with my colouring. I know there are shops that offer stylist appointments, but I don't want to constrained to only the brands on offer in one shop, or where the stylist gets extra commission.

I am sure such a a service exists, but it will cost £££££!
