John Barrowman put his dick on co-star's shoulder

John Barrowman as Captain Jack Harkness has (had?) been my all-time favourite Doctor Who character. I knew JB has a history of indecently exposing himself on set multiple times, but today I learned that he not only exposed his dick repeatedly but also non-consensually touched fellow actors with it -- like Camille Coduri (who played Rose Tyler's mum)!

AIBU to think that he got away with this only because he is gay? If he had been straight, wouldn't non-consensually putting his dick on his female co-star's body from behind have landed him loads of trouble already? I was utterly shocked to watch the video -- I don't know how I should be feeling after learning that my favourite Doctor Who actor behaved in this despicable manner. Shock

I find this thread quite shocking. How well groomed some posters are. Groomed to accept this sort of behaviour. To see it as acceptable and normal in the entertainment industry. To defend the perpetrator.

It's really not ok. Feminism and equality has a long way to go.

Makes you wonder what the work culture was like there and why Christopher Eccleston declined to sign up for a second series.

Ecclestone clashed with producers and decided not to pursue a further series

Some gay men feel the entertainment business is their 'safe space' in which they can be outrageous.

I could mention one London actress who is known for getting her boobs out at the slightest opportunity. (And I'm not being catty about her choice of roles. Like Seth McFarlane is here:

Then there's the politicians:

LuluJakey1 · 09/05/2021 21:58

It is disgusting behaviour. Barrowman is another man full of excuses about 'banter', 'bit of fun'. He is very entertained by himself and egocentric.

Peanutbutterandbananatoastie · 09/05/2021 23:14

Also very ignorant line of 'what about the Africans'...which ones, you deformed nonce.

This had me howling Grin
@Pemba "It's obviously not as bad as Noel Clarke" really??!! I think it's much worse and actual sexual misconduct surely?! Noel Clarke is mainly a bit suggestive and a flirt. Completely different.
Eh?

Have you read the allegations against NC? Far far more than a bit suggestive and a flirt!

SpringCrocus · 09/05/2021 23:45

@pemba , apologies because I managed to get her surname spelt incorrectly. I had cut and pasted it, but then my phone auto corrected it!

bluegreygreen · 09/05/2021 23:59

Let’s be clear, some people wouldn’t mind it, some people would and some would love it. But it’s judging audience and if someone complained would John have got them sacked or said sorry

I work in a profession which, as described eloquently by a previous poster, also involves long hours, often away from home, and team boning over emotional events.

I cannot conceive of a situation where behaviour such as this in the workplace would be fine if the colleague 'said sorry'. There is no 'judging audience' regarding indecent exposure.

The comments from some posters on the thread (I assume female) simply show the level of grooming and acceptance of unreasonable behaviour within the entertainment industry.

*team bonding 😳

Just seen this video! Noel can talk! 🎤
lilstarr99 · 10/05/2021 07:02

It’s not ok. Sounds to me like Noel was a bit put out that JB could ‘get away with it’ too! To be honest Noel was the one seemingly obsessed with it and going on about it. The women are on stage and everyone is laughing, they’re not at that point going to sour the situation by saying they were not comfortable with him doing that, are they?

It’s not acceptable for anyone, man, woman, gay or straight to be behaving like that.

@urkidding - what are you referring to about Jimmy Carr?

LillianGish · 10/05/2021 09:00

Some gay men feel the entertainment business is their 'safe space' in which they can be outrageous. I don't think it's got anything to do with being gay - it's about being in a position of power where you think (or even know) you can get away with it. JB got away with it because he was JB - if he was someone just starting out, playing a minor part or working in a backstage capacity there's no way he would have got away with it gay or not because anyone else waving their willy around would be considered weird and slightly suspect, not merely "flamboyant".
