John Barrowman put his dick on co-star's shoulder

John Barrowman as Captain Jack Harkness has (had?) been my all-time favourite Doctor Who character. I knew JB has a history of indecently exposing himself on set multiple times, but today I learned that he not only exposed his dick repeatedly but also non-consensually touched fellow actors with it -- like Camille Coduri (who played Rose Tyler's mum)!

AIBU to think that he got away with this only because he is gay? If he had been straight, wouldn't non-consensually putting his dick on his female co-star's body from behind have landed him loads of trouble already? I was utterly shocked to watch the video -- I don't know how I should be feeling after learning that my favourite Doctor Who actor behaved in this despicable manner. Shock

Christ that video of JB grabbing Eve Myles was grim. Total power play and unacceptable.

anon666 · 09/05/2021 18:17

I shared a house with five public schoolboys at uni and I lost count of the number of times I saw their genitals.

For some men it's almost like a baboon-like display of masculinity.

Grim.

i think the times we are in, any slur on homosexuals, lesbians, mixed race people, black people or obese people is classed as being , racist, homophobic etc, as usual, things have just gone too far the other way

amusedtodeath1 · 09/05/2021 18:21

If someone walk up to you and wiped their ass on your hair, I wouldn't necessarily assume it was a sexual act, but it's still disgusting, unhygienic and an invasion of your personal space.

Slapping your duck on someone isn't a sexual act either. It's about control.

I think this is where cancel culture has got everyone up in arms. Let’s be clear, some people wouldn’t mind it, some people would and some would love it. But it’s judging audience and if someone complained would John have got them sacked or said sorry.

If it’s saying sorry or wasnt an issue for person involved, then it’s not an issue. If the person said nothing because they feared for their job then BBC needs to think about their actions. However, if John would have listened and acted differently and apologised, is it really worth character and career assassination?

It’s different to Weinstein as he used his power to blacklist whole careers for self gratification, where as this seems like a prank gone too far.

josbd · 09/05/2021 18:32

Avid readers of Popbitch have definitely known all about his behaviour for a number of years.

But then think of how many decades certain film moguls/directors have been getting away with disgusting behaviour. It seems there are "degrees"of what seems to be "acceptable" abuse. There is only ONE type of sexual abuse as far as I am concerned. NONE

Until abuse of any type is wiped out, everyone has to learn that it cannot and shall not ever be acceptable EVER.

Pintosmash · 09/05/2021 18:46

We know he got told not to do this years ago, re the Andrew Lloyd webber clip, but continued for years afterwards, didn't change. Getting your knob out in the workplace for years and years isn't a prank. And the backlash isn't career assassination, it's career suicide, entirely self inflicted.

MarshaBradyo · 09/05/2021 18:48

JB and others like him thought he could do what he wanted no matter what. Turns out he couldn’t and he’ll have to deal with the outcome like any other non media adult.

flashylamp · 09/05/2021 18:49

Yes. It's nothing to do with the fact that whipping your dick out is wrong.

Let’s be clear, some people wouldn’t mind it, some people would and some would love it. But it’s judging audience and if someone complained would John have got them sacked or said sorry.

If you think an act like this is judged on its 'audience' you are lacking something upstairs. What he did is as fucking wrong and offensive no matter how the act was received.

If it’s saying sorry or wasnt an issue for person involved, then it’s not an issue. If the person said nothing because they feared for their job then BBC needs to think about their actions. Yes. It's worth every minute of it. Sexual predators should be named and shamed at every opportunity.

You really are quite the apologist and a very big part of the problem.

SpringCrocus · 09/05/2021 18:50

Agree JB behaviour has been grim.
But can we get Camille Coudari's name correct, please?

Everyone else mentioned gets their correct names, but Camille is just "Camille Thingy"
She was a long running cast member as Rose's Mum and arguably was in far more DW episodes than Annette Badland.

She was the "woman on the right" in the interview with AB and NC, where he used the mike on her, so so much. She looked uncomfortable, as did AB.

SpringCrocus · 09/05/2021 18:51

And I bet she felt uncomfortable when JB did it to her, on set etc.

coffeefi · 09/05/2021 18:53

I am utterly disgusted and furious

I don't care If he is gay. I don't want somebody's smeggy cock touching me: nor do I want to see it. How dare he assume it's ok

Bloody blokes. Always blokes. Women don't do this do they? I mean if Jodie Whittaker got her fanny out on set and rubbed up against somebody else, would that be ok?

I'm sick of men and their behaviour

FrangipaniDeLaSqueegeeMop · 09/05/2021 18:59

Just watches the clip with ALW - who didn't look impressed at all. I can't believe JB told that as a funny story

FromDespairToHere · 09/05/2021 19:01

A workmate of mine, on a night out, once pinned me on my back on put his fingers in my mouth to "see how deep I could take it." Every single person I have told this to has laughed it off because he's gay so apparently couldn't possibly have meant any harm. So yeah, it's totally being brushed off because he's gay (Barrowman) and it's not ok.

Turkishangora · 09/05/2021 19:05

@Alonelonelyloner

I've known 3 men (off the top of my head) who have used being gay as a get out to sexually assault women or at least to make women feel shit. Slapping their arse, pinching their boobs (hard and causing bruises "hahaha" etc (and actually these were all forms of hating women and their bodies). I lived with a gay man once who was a real misogynist. It took me years to get over this bullshit. Luckily I have a very gay family (lots of gay relatives) enough to know that this is indeed a thing, but that I don't need to end up a homophobic knob for acknowledging it. Shame on this fucker!
Unfortunately it is a thing. Happened to me when other friends a lot whilst out around canal Street in the 90s, boob grabbing and groping. There was an element of the gay village being quite a mysogynistic place back in the day which is a shame as we started going there as it felt safer for women than a lot of other bars and venues.
TheSongOfTheSea · 09/05/2021 19:06

Vile behaviour. Don't know whether anybody else has mentioned this and I've missed it, but Chris Pratt gave a TV interview where he was laughing about getting his cock out on set to shock female co-stars. The audience were roaring with laughter.

I wonder if his agents are trying to bury that clip now.

everythingthelighttouches · 09/05/2021 19:21

Flowers

That is absolutely horrendous, violent and abusive. I’m so sorry that happened to you. I hope you don’t work there any more.

Bertiebiscuit · 09/05/2021 19:30

Ewwwww that's vile - what a d*ck - but I always thought so anyway - but he should have been sacked for this - how come no one complained??????? What a creep.

Camille Coduri. Yes I should have put her full name - apologies. My excuse is that it's an unusual name and I had already started typing and couldn't be bothered to scroll back to check the spelling, hence 'Camille Thingy'. But yes I should have made the effort to check.
