To think she can’t cut the puppy’s ears!

So I had to name change to post this. My friend was given a dog, a tiny little puppy by her boyfriend who breeds dogs Sad
Today the puppy is going to get its ears cut because her boyfriend thinks it looks better and he will have more chance to breed. She knows it’s illegal but she said he insists. I don’t know who’s going to crop this poor puppy’s ears but I honestly feel sick about this little baby being in pain. I don’t know how I can stop this, because my friend seems passive and because he said it’s happening it just is.

It's illegal, generally people do this to dogs because they are going to train them for dog fights. Move fast, report it

I'm a bit confused, by "cutting the ear" does she mean crop. If so that is illegal in the UK.

This practice is disgusting and unnecessary. I reported someone last week who had his dogs ears cropped and tail docked and it is not a working dog. I will follow this up if I have not heard anything in the next couple of days. Absolutely sickening.

I must be very naive, I'd never heard of ear cropping before. It's appalling. I can't believe people want their dogs to look like that. Those poor puppies.

I live rurally and don't know anyone who has a staffie or pit bull type of dog. Here, it's all labradors, retrievers, collies, terriers and poodle-crosses. I always associate staffies and bulldogs with urban areas for some reason.

Well done for calling the RSPCA and police. Hopefully they will shut this vile "business" down.

Your friend is bringing a tiny little puppy round to your house all weekend because she’s working and neither of them will be around to look after it? Puppy bonding / separation anxiety haven’t been considered there either then.

Hope the RSPCA take it away.

It's a big practice in other countries, leading to 'celebrities' importing dogs into the UK with cropped ears, posting them on SM and hiking the interest in tham. Leading to a large increase in dogs with cropped ears here - using a loophole that allows you to import dogs like this e.g.
Bred abroad, cropped, shipped to UK
OR
Bred here, shipped abroad, cropped, shipped back
OR
Bred and cropped here and paperwork forged to look like cropping was done abroad

It's barbaric but supporters will argue blue it's for the dog's benefit because leaving an exposed and unprotected ear "reduces ear infections". Twats.

It is illegal.report him ,name and shame him.go to the police find out the name of the thug doing the cutting and report him.
Please do not do nothing.by not doing anything you are complicit in this puppy pain.
Find out as much as you can and please do the right thing.😿😿

I am 100% against this, however, I wonder if any of you up in arms about reporting this to the police would report someone who planned to circumcise their kids....no anaesthetic there either! Equally as barbaric!

Unfortunately that’s not illegal so you can’t report it. And in general you will find MN is pretty anti circumcision

Ear cropping is illegal and has been since around 1830.

Circumcison isn't illegal, though I think it ought to be.

I don't see how one has anything to do with the other but yes, if circumcision was illegal and I heard of someone planning to do it, I would report them.

Spoke to a neighbour a few years ago who was planning on importing a pup from the states so it would have docked tail (and possibly ears). He said they didn't look right with tails. He said the government was terrible, forcing animals to travel like that. I pointed out it wasn't the government making the pup travel, but him. He went a bit quiet. Didn't get the dog.

I think you need a licence to breed dogs bow as well if it’s over 3 litters a year. Not sure if the exact law on that though.

Hi so sorry for the late update. My friend came to her senses after many Google articles being sent. She kept the dog with her, his ears are fine. Her boyfriend seems to of disappeared off the face of the earth at the moment....

I did report it to the police, j found out his address from my friend but like I said currently he’s MIA. I hope he’s found soon enough because he’s been doing this for years Sad.

I am glad this little baby is safe, he’s only 6 weeks so definitely shouldn’t be away from his mum. My friend is being a bit off with me but I did send her some information about puppies that young.

WORKING DOGS DO NOT NEED THEIR EARS CROPPED.

Please can posters stop mentioning this as if it is a requirement or acceptable because it is neither.
