To be irritated by people wanting a foreign holiday this summer?

I know some people have family abroad and that is different.

However I know several people who either have second homes abroad or just fancy some sun, and I feel annoyed by them agitating about wanting to go abroad this summer.

AIBU to think they're being selfish?

OP posts:
Mellonsprite · 06/05/2021 19:30

It’s been bloody sleeting where I am today, Damn right I want some sun.

VeryQuaintIrene · 06/05/2021 19:31

If people are vaccinated, wear masks when appropriate and go to countries where the vaccination rate is high and covid rates low, good luck to them.

Aposterhasnoname · 06/05/2021 19:34
@Aposterhasnoname thank you for your hard work throughout this pandemic!! Flowers you deserve a holiday & people should stop being such virtue signalling, judgey arseholes & let others get on with it!!
Thank you.

Jennyfromtheculdesac · 06/05/2021 19:35

OP are you going to personally reimburse me for the money I will lose if I don’t go on my holiday that has already been rearranged twice?

PufferFishGoneWrong · 06/05/2021 19:37

I'm not going away this year, but anyone who is. Bloody enjoy yourselves!!

SoupDragon · 06/05/2021 19:37

If I can go on my delayed holiday from last summer I'm damn well going.

Selfish is the twats who refuse to comply with regulations, the people who for the past 15 months have banged on about how they won't wear a mask, or not visit their relatives, or not have their child's party, or buy all the bog roll.
It's not people who are vaccinated or have a negative test doing something legal.

This. Absolutely this.

Livelovebehappy · 06/05/2021 19:39

Obviously if we can’t go, we can’t go, but it doesn’t mean we can’t have a moan about it. A holiday isn’t just about sunbathing and drinking - it just lets you recharge your batteries, and a change of scenery away from everyone and everything. If you stay in the Uk during your annual leave, whilst there's some lovely places, it’s not restful if the weather is bad and you have to force fun for a week, especially with kids.

FrangipaniDeLaSqueegeeMop · 06/05/2021 19:40

Fucking cunts, wanting to enjoy relaxation and sunshine, wanting to get back to normality and a year of staying indoors. How do you suffer these awful people OP?

GreenShadow · 06/05/2021 19:41

"None of your business what other people do. Most will be fully vaccinated and theres strong evidence that vaccines reduce transmission."
But it is our business if travellers bring the virus back to the UK whether from the resort, plane or airport, as has recently been suggested.
The vaccine might reduce the risk of transmission, but it doesn't stop it.

I love travelling and will have had both doses by mid July, but will stay at home this year for everyone else's sake.

hear hear!!!

If the pandemic has shown something, is how crucial social life and holidays are for your mental health. Maybe not yours OP, but most people, and definitively mine.

Enough with the staycation bollocks, as soon as the borders open, I am taking the kids away.

If you LIKE staycations, by all means have one. Some people like beach, city break, sky holiday, camping.. its not a judgement. I need to be abroad to have a real holiday, and I will.

Theonewiththecandles · 06/05/2021 19:42

I'm fine if that makes me selfish.
I haven't been abroad for 5 years and before that didn't have any kind of holiday for nearly 10. We missed out on our honeymoon last year so we are planning on taking it over a year later instead. And I cannot bloody wait!! My whole family are key workers, eg care workers/postal workers/teachers and they are just as excited to go abroad themselves and don't judge us!

turnthebiglightoff · 06/05/2021 19:42

YABU. I haven't left the country in 3 years. I want me some sun and a beach and the sea, and I'm not talking about sodding new Brighton.

I won't be going anywhere until the ridiculous testing prices go down or disappear, but yes, people want to experience something other than fearmongering doom warriors who want us all to stay inside for the rest of our lives until we die.

CrystalE · 06/05/2021 19:43

Can anyone tell me where they are getting their Covid travel tests done? Hope it's not the NHS. Would rather NHS funds being spent on things like clearing the waiting list backlog

Onedaysomedaynowadays · 06/05/2021 19:44

My DPs job depends on people going on holiday abroad. How exactly is his company supposed to survive if they don't?

Soulstirring · 06/05/2021 19:44

I find your attitude selfish. Why would I not go abroad because you don’t like it?

Xztop · 06/05/2021 19:45

Since march 2020 I have split up with my husband of nearly 14 years and worked continuously through the pandemic.
Too fucking right I want a holiday!!

emilyfrost · 06/05/2021 19:45

YABU. Why is it selfish? Why does it annoy you? What’s it got to do with you at all?

scaredsadandstuck · 06/05/2021 19:47

We did go away last year to France, that when we left UK wasn't on the quarantine list but went on a few days after we arrived. This was after we moved our original holiday to this year because to Portugal, which was on the quarantine list. Portugal got moved to the 'green' list at the same time France went on the quarantine list 🙄🙄

So I am hoping to move our 2020 Portugal holiday to 2022 and have booked a cottage in the UK for this summer. Not ideal, not at all what I would choose, but boringly practical.

However - if people want to and are 'allowed' to go abroad of course they should. There is nothing nicer than a proper sun holiday. I cannot wait to be back in southern Europe next summer!!

They aren't NHS tests so you can stand down.

Many countries around the world have introduced additional entry requirements. If you need a COVID-19 test for your upcoming flight departing from the UK, we’ve brought together a number of options with exclusive discounts to help you book the test you need to travel easily and safely. Please note: you are not able to use a National Health Service (NHS) test for this purpose.

Teateaandmoretea · 06/05/2021 19:47

Yabu and selfish to expect others to think like you.

Crazycatlady83 · 06/05/2021 19:47

@CrystalE
You aren’t allowed to use the free NHS ones. You have to purchase from a approved government list before you travel.

TUI just announced £20 PCR test for their customers to green list countries (and £60 for all 4 tests needed for amber countries)

TheRavenNevermore · 06/05/2021 19:48

I'm going the minute I am so-called permitted to go by this ass-hat government and I don't give a bugger what the OP thinks of me!

BlackberrySky · 06/05/2021 19:49

Perhaps you are underestimating the importance and value of foreign travel OP? People are not selfish for wanting to go. They are selfish if they fail to comply with the rules associated with their trip at the time that they travel.

Aalvarino · 06/05/2021 19:50

I'm so sick of all the virtuous posturing on COVID.
What is this?? Some sort of 'who can wear the hairiest, itchiest hair shirt' contest??

Life is short. Go live it.

BonnieDundee · 06/05/2021 19:52

YABVVVVU for labelling people "selfish" who just want to go about their normal life and do normal things.

Sick of "selfish" being bandied about to demonise anyone who hasn't hidden away in terror for the last 14 months
