To wonder what it is about “no overnight stays till 17 May” that is so hard to understand?

So many colleagues and acquaintances merrily talking today about plans to go and stay with relatives for the bank holiday. Nobody has any shame. We’re waiting till the 17th. Does nobody care any more?

It feels like some people want to live in lockdown forever

Why? Because I follow the rules? You do realise that the more people who break them increase the risk of staying in lockdown? Or is that your point?
user1487194234 · 01/05/2021 13:03

I think it’s high time we get back to normal
People who want to stay at home wearing their masks and washing their shopping can crack on

So what scientific evidence leads you to feel that the planned roadmap should be abandoned at this stage, which is what I assume you're saying? What about the people who are still awaiting vaccination? The second line is ridiculous. I doubt many are washing their shopping, and who the hell wears a mask at home?

@name674398

Can honestly say I don't give a flying fuck.
This.
user1487194234 · 01/05/2021 13:12

Whatever
Am off into town for a lunch and some shopping

Bizawit · 01/05/2021 13:26

No. If the govt announced tonight that the rules had changed it would be due to a reassessment of the risk.

Why do you believe everything some snotty overgrown-public-school-boy politicians tell you?

Use some of your own critical reasoning skills.

Scottishskifun · 01/05/2021 13:42

@HaveringWavering

you don't need to be anything more than computer literate and able to read to understand the facts.

Nonsense. Not everything can be reduced to bullet points. People are desperate for this to be simple, but it is not.

Checking the rates in my own area only tells me the rates in my own area. It does not tell me how those numbers fit into the overall projections, logistics and national strategy.

Tbh OP neither can the govt as several different models are used and examined in a regular basis. The variation of outputs even between these modules varies pretty hugely. As a model is only based on the input factors and the hardest thing with anything to model is human behaviour. No one model has been spot on throughout this isn't unusual in the world of data and is very common hence many are used.

All the models predict a 3rd wave in the summer at one point but with greater vaccination rate showing effect on reduction of hospital admissions its thought that the impact will be lower.

No data analysis or model shows zero projection of cases or zero deaths as this virus is here to stay it's mutation rate is too quick for it now to be fully eliminated.

I'm not a virologist but do understand statistics and modelling.
So it will come down to what you feel comfortable with as regardless of when restrictions get relaxed it's still going to be circulating it's not possible to fully eradicate in the UK.

Enjoy yourself. Probably less onerous than attempting any kind of constructive reply. "Whatever" is the response sulky inarticulate teens tend to use.
Pheebs2021 · 01/05/2021 14:29

There's not a magic fecking Wand for the 17th May. If a couple wants to stop over night a friend wants to stop with a friend for a wine night I couldn't even begin to get angry or wound up. I'm fortunate to live with my husband some people have to live alone and I don't begrudge this.

Mikki77 · 01/05/2021 14:32

People are dickheads....you can't argue with stupid.

And that’s exactly why we have bubbles.

BonnieDundee · 01/05/2021 15:06

OP can I ask what was the point of asking AIBU when you have already decided YANBU?

sleepwouldbenice · 01/05/2021 15:27

Also in town having lunch and shopping. Doesn't mean I act like an idiot in other areas as I don't understand collective risk and society
Can't teach stupid

Poppynit · 01/05/2021 15:28

I’ve been “unlawfully” seeing my boyfriend on my weekends off because before Christmas my mental health was so bad that I was planning my suicide, so I’m not judging anyone for breaking the roolzz.
I think if you are going to break/ignore the rules/laws/guidelines just be as responsible and sensible as you can.

TheKeatingFive · 01/05/2021 15:31

Pretty sure she just wanted to call people selfish and stupid.

tsmainsqueeze · 01/05/2021 16:44

I don't give a shiny shit either , in fact i hope all those that do have a really great time .

HelloMissus · 01/05/2021 16:45

OP what do you think about the perfectly legal rave that took place in Liverpool last night?

Pensionista · 01/05/2021 17:17

Hmmmmm, loads booked and staying in London for the big protest on the 15th May. Boris and his corrupt lying toads are going down soon. Lol.

HaveringWavering · 01/05/2021 17:28

@BonnieDundee

OP can I ask what was the point of asking AIBU when you have already decided YANBU?
Because I was interested to know how many people agree with me and AIBU has a voting function. 37% after about 1300 votes. That is not as bad as I had feared actually.

@HelloMissus

I think it was a great idea, same for all the sporting event trials. It’s government-sanctioned and an important step in gathering the data that will open things up again.

And the fact that it is so complicated is exactly why it should be left to the experts. I never suggested that the data had to get to that point before restrictions should be lifted. I’m perfectly happy with accepting a certain level of risk after things open up. I even know that my own personal risk and that of my family is already negligible. But I think it is better to do as we are told while the experts take care of the bigger picture.

YANBU OP the entitled selfish snowflakes not caring or following the Covid guidance are though they feel no shame as aforesaid they are selfish and entitled!

TheKeatingFive · 01/05/2021 17:59

the entitled selfish snowflakes

This kind of language about people who’ve found lockdown very hard and have given up a lot for the greater good if at very low risk themselves, is a big part of why compliance is now shot.

Ask yourself, why would people continue to make sacrifices if treated this way?

Can't take anyone seriously who calls people "snowflakes."
