To never wear a mask again!

MasieMaskless · 28/04/2021 21:58

Now fully vaccinated.

There’s no point to me wearing a mask anymore and I’m seeing more and more people who may or may not be fully vaccinated not wearing them so why should I bother with the discomfort of wearing one?

WIBU to totally abandon them with glee?!

I'm just astonished at the noticeable attitude of 'well I've had my vaccine now so ..' we've only just reached the age for vaccination of the 40ish threshold right, so fuck everyone else?

What has has happened to people? I hardly recognise the UK anymore. But that started a while ago. And that's a derail.

UsedUpUsername · 30/04/2021 19:20

Not going to bother to respond to the rest of swim's post? Hold on to your delusions then

I’m not the deluded one who thinks a mask can prevent what a vaccine cannot 🙄

SchrodingersImmigrant · 30/04/2021 19:22

It's a combination of things which works. Not just 1 thing by itself.

Headyhurty · 30/04/2021 19:23

I still wear mine becuase it's no real hardship and I know some people still feel anxious around people who aren't wearing one. I don't see any real point to it myself, but I'm not going to deliberately make other people uncomfortable when it's easily avoided.

Ginuwine · 30/04/2021 19:29

Keep the mask on

No

I loved my life before covid no one gave a shit about me, suicide attempts ect, buy now I am expected to wear a mask to protect others.

I do wear mask, but I don't really care about others outside my own family.

Christ, well over a year and some of you still don't get the basics.

Heartbreaking, isn’t it? All younger people need, after an hellish year (I know of a young “courting” couple who have no CEV relatives who have assiduously abided by every stipulation because they both instinctively felt it was the only thing to do, whatever heartache it caused) is two more months of caution from others until they have the opportunity to be vaccinated after the people they protected. A percentage of whom it seems are not giving them a fleeting thought now they e been jabbed.

Forget what you think of the Govt . (absolute shower), the rules (some nonsensical). Please, instead focus on people who have given up a great deal at much personal cost because they believe in society and give them back what you owe.

It’s two months of minor discomfort when you go shopping/on a plane/to your medical appointment. Some people have lost their livelihoods and formative year for others they don’t know.

If everyone (who ca) wears their mask now, we all have a better chance of jettisoning the odorous things at the end of June.

I have every sympathy for people with exemptions: when I see someone without a mask, I assume they have a valid reason snd wear mine to help to protect them.

@Susie477 Exactly. I can't believe how selfish some people are.

Dobbyisahouseelf · 30/04/2021 21:49

@Biscusting Totally agree.

I get the impression some people want this mask/lockdown situation to go on forever.
I get that impression that some people can't comprehend that actions that reduce covid transmission (e.g. wearing masks) mean future lock downs are less likely.

I don't want another lockdown, so I am not a dick and I wear a mask. Seems a small price to pay.

YorkiePanda · 30/04/2021 23:14

Well...in theory yes. Except that’s not how it worked in practice. Cases went up and we had two further lockdowns after mask mandates were introduced. So I can kinda see why people don’t think much of them as a transmission reduction measure.

Stark reality is, other than massively restricted social contact, Australia or NZ style, or a vaccine as we have now, nothing else was really going to do much other than put a finger in the dike, so to speak. The drop in hospitalizations and deaths this time is probably mostly to do with the vaccine, because I’d wager a) compliance with lockdown hasn’t been as strict in the third one and b) the rules of this third lockdown weren’t as strict - we had bubbles, etc, for good reasons, like preserving people’s sanity.

Frownette · 30/04/2021 23:26

I've got used to them now so don't care very much. They stop quite a lot of droplets from sneezes/coughs.

Only thing I'd get irritated by is if I got told to take them on/off/on/off. Once it's on it's on and stays that way.

Wearing a mask means I haven't had my usual stinking colds for 2 years now and I've had no time off sick from work. Its been great. I work in the NHS and .as well continue wearing one in winter to protect myself from viruses.

VanillaAndOrange · 01/05/2021 08:02

I'm having my second vaccine next Friday and I won't be stopping any time soon, certainly not in places where it is compulsory (shops, my workplace etc) and probably not in the other places where I'd usually wear one (in between shops where it's not far).

I don't dislike wearing them at all, and if there's any chance it will help prevent someone from getting Covid, I'm all for it. It will also probably help people who are very concerned to feel more comfortable. Some people just wouldn't want to be around someone who wasn't wearing one and I respect that.

Let's wait and see whether the vaccine (which in any case a lot of younger people haven't had yet) makes a significant difference to the stats before we all throw caution to the wind.

In any case, if you have asthma, aren't you exempt?

dentydown · 01/05/2021 08:10

My father has had the jab twice. He was recently hospitalised and guess what? They sent him home with Covid. They didn’t realise he would be returning to a house full of people because he was old. We had a frantic phone call from the hospital the day after he was discharged. I didn’t believe it. I used one of the kid’s instant tests on him, he got a positive result.

You can still get Covid, you just get the milder symptoms. Now I have to test the whole household. Because he can pass Covid on as well.

My child is having a rubbish birthday because of Covid-19, but we can’t risk pass it on to people. We will do something nice later. He understands. Birthday cake is arriving via Tesco this evening.

His older brother is missing out on GCSE assessments. Again, if he went to school he could pass it on to hundreds of people.

So yes sorry YANBU. Stick it out as best you can, and experiment with different types of mask, see if that makes a difference!

HaveringWavering · 01/05/2021 08:23

Where were you wearing a mask that it was optional anyway? I wear mine in shops, in public transport, at nursery pick up and drop off- all of these places have a rule that no mask=no entry, unless medically exempt. Being vaccinated is not medically exempt and the shop is not going to accept that.

Patsydarling · 01/05/2021 08:30

You can still pass on covid, you can still catch covid and most importantly what you're saying is f#£% everyone who can't or hasn't had the vaccine. I'm TTC and a teacher, I can't have the vaccine as it can mess with your menstrual cycle and I'm about to have IVF in the next few months. If the children in my school can wear a mask, so should you. I'm sure post people who have had the vaccine are also the ones mixing indoors 🙄

HappydaysArehere · 01/05/2021 08:38

I’m looking forward to getting on a bus in the winter and having some protection from the coughing and sneezing that usually surrounds me. So I will continue to wear one on transport.

Dee1975 · 01/05/2021 08:42

You can still pass on. So your reasoning is a little selfish.
It’s a mask. It’s really no big deal.

Brefugee · 01/05/2021 09:00

But we'll never reach the point of everyone being vaccinated, as some choose not to have it.

Nobody is advocating mask wearing for ever. But surely it doesn't take Einstein to work out that it would be socially responsible (solidarity, anyone?) to wear them until everyone has had the opportunity to get a jab.

Especially since one of the places a lot of people seem to want to go to are staffed by young people who haven't had the chance to have a vaccination yet.

pp mentioned nobody caring when she was suicidal. I hope you are getting treatment for your mental health issues. The two things aren't in any way comparable. Covid is very much out and about, and while mental health issues are widely spread too, not many people talk about them to anyone else.

Xenia · 01/05/2021 09:03

I have been against them since they came in even if I die or have a bigger chance of dying. The balance between freedom and restriction has been wrong. A 12 year old is suing so hopefully shortly we will have a clear court judgment on whether secondary pupils can be forced into them without their consent or not.

People are going to catch COVID in the future, but not in numbers that will overwhelm the health service.

It isn't going away, we can't hide from it and the most vulnerable will be as protected as they can be.

Everyone else risks catching it (small risk since it will be much less widespread) and getting ill from it (miniscule risk as those at risk will have been jabbed)

Time to crack on and I have a feeling people will be surprised how quickly things progress over the coming weeks.
