Kendodd · 28/04/2021 07:24

My theory is that voters don't care.

OP posts:
toxictoad · 28/04/2021 10:47

I voted Tory but never will again.

Boris should resign, his comments if true and the handling of the pandemic have been criminal.

BadMudda · 28/04/2021 10:47

@iminthegarden

It's politics. He's in the middle of a concerted smear campaign by Cummings. He didn't want a second lockdown, as many others didn't and I can imagine he might have said something like "I'd rather xx than have a third lockdown" because come on let's face it. None of us want this. As for the flat, who really cares, it'll be made sure now that it will be transparent and as long as it won't have come from taxpayer cash, it's not a biggie for me. Tbh for everyone saying how uncaring this guy is I've been absolutely astounded at how strict our lockdowns have been compared to everyone elses, especially around Europe when they could quite clearly see what was coming their way over the last few months. He's gone way beyond what I though a Tory govt would've done in an effort to save lives. We were seriously unlucky to get such a virulent strain over the winter and I'm glad labour weren't in as we'd be likely be stuck like most of Asia and Europe sitting around waiting for vaccines with endless restrictions for the next few years. I think we need the positivity of someone like Boris to help us bounce back.

This with bells on 👆👆👆👆

But this is mumsnet .... the Conservatives are hugely disliked on this site.

ElizabethTudor · 28/04/2021 10:51

I care very much. But I have not, and never will, vote Conservative.
However, I am astounded that he is not being held to account for the multiple lies that have been exposed throughout his tenure. If he were a Labour or Lib Dem PM he’d have been annihilated. That’s the right-wing press for you.

blueangel19 · 28/04/2021 10:51

Most people want to get on in life, to better themselves, ensure each generation does better than before. Socialism is not the way to do that. Boris projects confidence in himself, his party and our country. That’s what people want, not bleeding heart wokism, and that’s why his peccadillos will be overlooked, up to a point.....

Spot on

BaileysforBreakfast · 28/04/2021 10:52

Shitz
not bleeding heart wokism

Can you actually define what you mean by this? Or are you just regurgitating right-wing soundbites?

Moonstone1234 · 28/04/2021 10:53

Shitz is right. Most people want to better themselves and have a good life - they dont want to know that more and more people can claim benefits and that actually in certain cases its not worthwhile working.

When Labour put their manifesto out and then kept adding to it I was surprised just how many people realised this was impossible to deliver. It was free everything. People knew it wasnt going to be the very rich who would pay for this, they would be long gone. It would be the middle classes. Socialism is great at spending other people's money.

If there was an election now - who would get in? With everything going on? I believe it would be Boris because Labour arent a credible party for all sorts of reasons. Sadly I dont see another Blair who can bring Labour back to the centre ground. The woke, momentum agenda has a stranglehold on the party along with the unions. Until they do a complete about turn it will be Tory win after Tory win and for that Labour need to hang their heads in shame.

I am a Conservative voter but come on Labour - keep the government in line. Until you have a massive rethink you will be kept in opposition for a generation.

notlovinglockdownlife · 28/04/2021 10:58

YABU
It matters and I care a lot. My Tory MP is certainly fed up with hearing from me.

BJ is morally bankrupt, it shows in his private life, taking money for redecorating his flat (essentially a bribe as the donor has been awarded government contracts), and giving contracts to cronies at he start of a national pandemic. He is a rich posh boy who has utter contempt for anyone not like him.

He said the success of the vaccination programme was down to greed and capitalism. For him, Hancock and Rees-Mogg yes, but how insulting for the millions of volunteers and retired healthcare workers who have given their time.

BJs only concern is helping the rich even richer yet so many people are too apathetic to realise or care so it seems he will get away with it.

CornishGem1975 · 28/04/2021 10:59

@Kendodd. All politicians stand there and lie. All of them. If I had to look at voting for someone who didn't, then I'd never vote at all.

HappydaysArehere · 28/04/2021 11:00

Anyone who didn’t realise he was a lier haven’t bothered reading the news for some years. He got a large majority because Corbyn et al destroyed the main opposition. Max Hastings got it right when he wrote that he wouldn’t trust Johnson to tell him the day of the week. So this country has got what they voted for and that is a shambolic, lying PM.

ThetaSigma · 28/04/2021 11:05

Labour pretty much can’t win a majority because (a) they’ve lost Scotland, so can no longer bank on 40 odd seats, and (b) have pretty much lost the white working class vote that used to be their bedrock, hence the ‘red wall’ falling. Repeatedly telling that group they’re a load of racists for voting Brexit probably hasn’t helped.

Say what you like about Blair - he did offer a vision of a better Britain. Boris does the same, even if it’s a load of bullshit.

ShitzandGiggles · 28/04/2021 11:06

Bleeding heart wokeism = TWAW, BLM, No Borders, extreme actions by Extinction Rebellion, tearing down statues, decolonising the curriculum, that famous image of Keir Starmer taking the knee.

The majority of voters have no time for it, whether you like that fact or not, and consequently will overlook some dodginess.

Contrast with Boris’s immediate response to the European Football Super League, and he doesn’t do woke. This is one of the reasons the majority love him and the working classes/red wall love him. At least for the moment.

Darker · 28/04/2021 11:06

Anyone complaining about lockdowns...

They did almost nothing to stop the virus entering the UK. Not when it started and not now. Why was that? It doesn't make sense.

Please look at India for what happens when a health system can't cope. With no lockdown 150k dead would have multiplied.

MrsMackesy · 28/04/2021 11:09

From the post at 10.09, I think Doomsdayiscoming is Boris.

StillRailing · 28/04/2021 11:11

I find him embarrassing to watch.

Contrast his immediate response to the football super league to the madness in March 2020 with allowing things like the Cheltenham Festival going ahead. Don't tell me it is hindsight, many of us were incredulous at what was going on, the FA shutdown the football before Boris did a thing.

iminthegarden · 28/04/2021 11:13

@Doomsdayiscoming they had very little covid to begin with and didn't lockdown much before us. Hong Kong did in January 2020 and they are still battling with frequent outbreaks despite the most stringent 3-week hotel quarantine for everyone testing positive being sent to govt quarantine camps, which are hideous. NZ and Aus are miles from anywhere with relatively tiny populations. They don't have a magic wand, they were just lucky that many things fell in their favour. I'm glad we won't be locked up for another few years.

blueangel19 · 28/04/2021 11:13

There is always Biden’s America to go to. They fully embraced woke and borders are open right?

ancientgran · 28/04/2021 11:15

Electoral Commission now satisfied that there are reasonable grounds to suspect an offence may have occurred into the renovation of the flat.

iminthegarden · 28/04/2021 11:16

@blueangel19 love it

Moonstone1234 · 28/04/2021 11:16

Woke issues will destroy the Labour Party and until they get to grips with that and get rid of the student politics the Conservatives will get in time and time again.

Alan Johnson summed it up perfectly on election night when he sat next to the Head of Momentum (and Alan was IN the Labour party!). He was brilliant. Labour need more these people.

OldLordy · 28/04/2021 11:18

He's a member of the traditional ruling class who is behaving exactly as I would him to ie he is lazy, incompetent and bent. This behaviour is received in a way that is entirely consistent with English deference to their masters. For all their supposed rambunctiousness, the English like being ruled by posh people feathering their own nests. So yeah I care. But am unsurprised that he's still in place.

Darker · 28/04/2021 11:18

Tory voters should be holding their own party to account.
GuyFawkesHadTheRightIdea · 28/04/2021 11:19

@Tossblanket

Every politician is a self serving lying cunt.

Guy Fawkes had the right idea.

I did indeed. Unfortunately it's frowned upon.
NoSiree · 28/04/2021 11:21

Yes, I care. But, I am not, never have been and never will be, a Tory voter, so...I suppose they don't care that I care!

I also didn't vote Labour last time due to Momentum, who behaved like a bunch of thugs.

I vote Lib Dem at the moment as they are the second most popular party in my Tory safe seat home town. Sometimes I vote green, but it does seem to be a wasted vote here sadly.
