For example - wow Rosie really looks like her mother doesn't she ! Or, wow I can really see her father in her. Etc. Is it rude to do that?

No

OrangeRug · 26/04/2021 14:53

No?

SaucyHorse · 26/04/2021 14:53

I don't think it is rude at all... Why would it be?

Unless you know the child is adopted, maybe, but then it would be more weird than rude I'd say.

RubbishRobotFromTheDawnOfTime · 26/04/2021 14:54

Why do you think it might be rude?

Blakey24 · 26/04/2021 14:54

No I don’t think so!

skippy67 · 26/04/2021 14:54

No.

seadreams · 26/04/2021 14:54

It might be a bit annoying to hear it constantly but I don’t think it’s rude at all.

SmidgenofaPigeon · 26/04/2021 14:54

Yes if they say ‘she’s got a big conk just like her dad!’

No in the way you’ve described.

nonaomi · 26/04/2021 14:54

I'm just curious what people think. I don't think it's rude when people do it to my child.

OP posts:
shouldistop · 26/04/2021 14:55

Of course it's not rude.

ViciousJackdaw · 26/04/2021 14:55

No. It's only rude if you say 'Ooh, doesn't little Tarquin look just like the milkman'.

nitsandwormsdodger · 26/04/2021 14:55

No unless you are shit stiring because you don't think he's the dad

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 26/04/2021 14:56

I hope not - I say it all the time!

AmeliaChameleon · 26/04/2021 14:56

To me it's not but in the present climate expressing anything approaching an opinion is suspect so beware.

ParkheadParadise · 26/04/2021 14:57

No

nonaomi · 26/04/2021 14:57

Honestly I've said it a few times recently and I felt like it wasn't well received. Maybe it's in my head though. Also I noticed not that many people do it to me/ my child. In my baby group, no one ever says it at all about any of the babies. I am not British, so sometimes these tiny potential social faux pas are lost on me. Hence I thought I would open a discussion.

RonSwansonsChair · 26/04/2021 14:57

No.
It's a natural thing to say.

AlwaysLatte · 26/04/2021 14:58

Only if they are the product of a secret affair.

nonaomi · 26/04/2021 14:58

No one in the baby group has ever said it at all about any of the babies. Only I said it and it felt awkward.

OP posts:
Billandben444 · 26/04/2021 14:59

I think we're all agreed that it's a no. Sorry, not much of a discussion...

Lostinthewilderness · 26/04/2021 14:59

No
Some people need to chill out

CaptainMyCaptain · 26/04/2021 14:59

It's quite normal.

TeachesOfPeaches · 26/04/2021 14:59

Not unless you say the child looks like Chucky

nonaomi · 26/04/2021 14:59

@Billandben444 well that's reassuring. I felt quite bad about having said it. Maybe it was just in my head.

I got into a very uncomfortable situation once when I said that the child is a copy of her dad (she totally was!), and he wasn't her biological dad, the parents got together when the mother was already pregnant (I knew them from around that time as a couple). Since then I prefer to be silent on this topic.
