To not want ds kitted out in dinosaurs and sharks?

Aliceandthemarchhare · 26/04/2021 09:43

Ds is four months and mostly wears babygros. I had mostly white and grey and cream to start with but obviously people bought us things and there was a lot of blue and I like the darker navy blues - it seems to suit him.

However looking for a sunhat for him and I’ve had to pay £11 for a plain navy one. I forgot his sleeping bag on holiday recently and had to get one covered in sharks.

Why are boys clothes so miserable? Surely baby boys can wear bright colours and slightly friendlier animals than T rexes and sharks?!

Thought for summer: bright yellow is the most inviting colour for insects. Bright reds etc also exciting.

I like to dress mine in green for August when the wasps are about!

SleepingStandingUp · 26/04/2021 20:47

@Aliceandthemarchhare

But none of those are particularly practical accidentally

But erm thanks for the screenshots

Practical? For what? What exactly is your baby getting up to??

It's fine of course that you don't like the Palin clothes available or then not plain clothes or the navy or the brown or the other colours but then it stops being a supply issue and starts being about you.

Aibu to be extremely fussy and not like anything in the shops?

No. The option is make your own or go through someone who can and pick your fabrics / materials.

Aibu to think all boy clothes have predators or machines on them?
Yes.

SleepingStandingUp · 26/04/2021 20:50

@AccidentallyOnPurpose

It’s just a shame there aren’t more colours. The screenshots above are green, beige and blue - a bit bland!
Where this from and what does it go up to? I need those lion rompers but then I'm not classy and even buy my kids clothes with kids characters on which I know is frowned on
Newmama29 · 26/04/2021 20:50

Yes I feel this! My DS is 7 months & I absolutely love him in baby blues & navy, he’s blonde haired & blue eyes so it really looks adorable on him but I have to pay a small fortune for some lovely outfits in these colours from boutiques etc. Go into the high street shops & it’s all character clothes & sharks & dinosaurs 🤦🏼‍♀️ I’m happy for him to wear things like that when he’s older & chooses to but I can’t help but want my baby in soft colours of blue, grey & white 🤦🏼‍♀️😂

Ps don’t get me started on trying to find swimwear!! 101+ cute baby girl swimsuits, barely a swimsuit for a boy anywhere!!

AgathaAllAlong · 26/04/2021 20:54

Agree with Marks and Morrisons, I've got lots of nice bright transport themes from Morrisons. Don't mind the dinosaurs, with you on the sharks! Just got given about 5 different shark t shirts. Main thing for me is colour, so many of the boys are horrible grey or army print. They're just little kids, I want to dress him bright!

LolaSmiles · 26/04/2021 21:04

It's entirely possible to buy a range of children's clothing that is bright and unisex in a range of styles.
We managed to get clothing like this from Next, M&S, Asda, Frugi, Boden/Joules second hand from friends, Mothercare, Little Bird, Mamas and Papas, Little Green Radicals and John Lewis.
Friends have also bought from Duns, Meyaday, Kite, Polarn o Pyret (sp??).

If you're searching these sort of places for unisex sleepsuits and having no luck, the likelihood is you're being far, far too picky.

Caspianberg · 26/04/2021 21:08

@SleepingStandingUp - that tan yellow lion romper is from h and m. I bought Ds it for the summer.

Op your 4 month old night just wear sleepsuits now as it’s April and cold. But by peak summer they will no doubt need to just wear vest or summer rompers like above sometimes

Mine often wore just a white vest last summer when hot and tiny.

AccidentallyOnPurpose · 26/04/2021 21:10

@SleepingStandingUp all my screenshots are from H&M except for the sloth babygro.
I didn't actually trawl the internet to prove OP wrong.Grin

I just have the app and had a nosey at what's available, but apparently it's not good enough. Oh well.

Popcornbetty · 26/04/2021 21:11

I like dinasaurs, sharks/fish amd animals so have to disagree. We also picked up some really colourful bright summer outfits recently which are so lovely for boys and vibrant.

JudesBiggestFan · 26/04/2021 21:18

The trick is to have three sons. I've bought so many boys clothes over the last 12 years that I literally give no fucks anymore what the youngest wears! I'm more concerned about talking the eldest into wearing hoodies that cost less than £60 a throw!

Popcornbetty · 26/04/2021 21:27

When my son was that age I got loads of nice stuff from next! Still up there with my favourites for boys stuff but too pricey as they just get ruined now he’s three but they had loads of colourful things and also good neutral, plain colour clothes not just dinos etc. That was a couple of years ago but imagine it’s similar stuff now!

I think that works for 3 kids in general, not just boys.Grin
bridgetreilly · 26/04/2021 21:31

I think it's becoming clear that the problem is not everything being dinosaurs or sharks, because that is nonsense, but that the OP has particularly fussy taste about the things she does like.

Blueeyedgirl21 · 26/04/2021 22:31

You are mad to pay £11 quid for baby hat, who cares what it looks like, the baby doesn’t !

SleepingStandingUp · 26/04/2021 22:53

@Caspianberg @AccidentallyOnPurpose omg it's on sale too!!!!!

Mylittlesandwich · 26/04/2021 23:01

I've got a blue sun hat with fish on from Lindex. I like H&M for plain things. I've got some nice second hand things that are the pricier things like Frugi or Boden. M&S do nice jogging sets, DS has one set with I think leopards in navy and sloths in grey.

toiletbrushholder · 26/04/2021 23:08

Tru Frugi, Scandi brands, little bird.... lots second hand.

Agreed. I'm sure if the OP posted examples of what she likes her DS to wear people would be able to find sites / brands which have plenty of similar items. At the minute she says she likes bright colours and babygros, and then dismissess items that fit this brief.
BigusBumus · 27/04/2021 06:49

@Whinge I find it absolute incredible that you are taking this so seriously, like the OP has committed the crime of the century by having an opinion and not liking the same stuff as you. Wow!

Move on. Go and have breakfast or something. You don't need to leap on to here and start it up again for the second day running. It's mad!

HairyToity · 27/04/2021 06:52

My three year old son gets so excited by clothes with dinosaurs and sharks on. Yabu.

Confused

I went to bed, woke up and saw the thread had replies, and I replied to one of those posts.

mamamalt · 27/04/2021 06:56

Omg yes. I've got DD now who I love shopping for as the girls stuff is beautiful. Lovely yellows and greens and all sorts! Sainsbury are particularly good.
Wanted some bits for 4yo DS and even H&M all full of hoodies that say 'gamer' and so on... I preferred the sharks to bloody PlayStation!
I found as he's got older sports direct is good. Especially in the summer, usually just a small logo on nice coloured shorts and tees.

PurBal · 27/04/2021 06:59

To be honest i just want to be able to buy plain colours that aren't muted. What's with all the patterns and characters?! DH and I don't wear this crap, why do I have to inflict on my child?
