To not want ds kitted out in dinosaurs and sharks?

Ds is four months and mostly wears babygros. I had mostly white and grey and cream to start with but obviously people bought us things and there was a lot of blue and I like the darker navy blues - it seems to suit him.

However looking for a sunhat for him and I’ve had to pay £11 for a plain navy one. I forgot his sleeping bag on holiday recently and had to get one covered in sharks.

Why are boys clothes so miserable? Surely baby boys can wear bright colours and slightly friendlier animals than T rexes and sharks?!

There are of loads of nice clothes for boys these days. Try m&s or h&m for brights, pastels and gentle animals

Aliceandthemarchhare · 26/04/2021 19:16

I wasn’t really looking for suggestions forged thanks, I was wondering if others felt the same. Some do and some don’t! Smile

There you go OP.

Loads of navy, some cuddly, some giraffes , no dinos or sharks in sight and they definitely won't break the bank.

I agree but we have the opposite problem! All girls clothes are frilly princesses or unicorns. I'd say 50% of her clothes come from the "boy's" section, but something neutral would be much better! I don't know why it has to be either dinosaurs or unicorns...?! Like you say, why not some nice bright colours.

The problem too is when you're looking online the websites are split into girls and boys so you have to look in twice as many places to find something that is wearable.

Nubbin · 26/04/2021 19:30

Anyone who complains about this doesn't look very hard - next full of unisex colourful baby clothes, as are frugi, Polarn pryret, Asda etc - if you are intent on being offended yes all of the shops offer the traditional gender lines because they are popular and make money but it is it hard at all to find colourful neutral - dd currently dressed in a next bright things giraffe babygro..

Aliceandthemarchhare · 26/04/2021 19:31

But none of those are particularly practical accidentally

But erm thanks for the screenshots

Typo isn't not is

AccidentallyOnPurpose · 26/04/2021 19:33

Pyjamas, babygros and vests aren't practical? Uhmm... all right then.

DoLallyTapMum · 26/04/2021 19:36

Look in boots (always a fair amount of colour and things like trees on their t-shirts). Also, Asda have a fab range with lots of colour and different prints. I also buy things from nutmeg (Morrison’s) and La Redoute. I agree in general though, that clothes are far too gendered for my liking.

Aliceandthemarchhare · 26/04/2021 19:36

This matters to you, I see.

I relate, Op. It makes me positively rage. My DS (7) loves yellow, orange, purple and red. He loathes navy.

Used to find Sainsbury's good for under-4s. However as soon as they turn 5 it appears to be nothing but navy/grey/khaki etc. Next do a good range of plain colours tees in primary colours so I just buy a job lot of them every season. Hype does some good bright/ multi-colour tees for older more fashion-conscious boys.

What sort of clothes do you think a 4 month old should be wearing? The examples above look practical and easy to move in. Confused
Aliceandthemarchhare · 26/04/2021 19:41

Well, a lot of them are dungarees and shorts - ds is very fair. He doesn’t wear proper pyjamas, just babygros, and since we lose socks it’s better when they have feet. I only tend to buy plain white vests for him. Obviously others can do what they wish. It’s weird some people are on a mission to prove me wrong and idiotic. I know there are lovely clothes out there and I’ve bought them. But they often aren’t the cheapest option. A lot of people have said ‘but there are elephants’ etc but in sludge green and so on - they aren’t the nicest and the patterns are often a bit garish for my taste (obviously some people like them.)

I don’t doubt there are similar unicorn problems with girls clothes but obviously I’m looking at boys.

It isn’t just a gender thing. It’s just a shame there aren’t more colours. The screenshots above are green, beige and blue - a bit bland!

But some will love the boys clothes available and that’s fine. I’m starting to feel like I’m giving evidence at the stand!

And in navy which OP prefers and bears, giraffes, koalas etc. and cheap.

A bit baffled really.

As for the gendered clothing debate, when DD was little I bought what I wanted/needed regardless from what aisle it came from.

Now she's 10 the same applies. I look for what she likes regardless if it's in the boys/girls aisle and she has shitloads of clothes(way too many really) , very few pink or unicorny because she doesn't like them.

swimlittlefishy · 26/04/2021 19:46

@swimlittlefishy Amazing how 157 separate posters on this thread agree with the OP. And only you and one or 2 others disagree

When you're wrong, you're not any less wrong when you've found lots of people who are also wrong.

It's not a matter of opinion. You can't say X is not available when I have seen X and have bought X and a cursory google shows endless X.
So you're all wrong. I don't get how you're all so blind to what is available, but you seem to be.

The t shirts aren’t too bad to be fair but ds wears babygros. But I can see you’re going to determinedly browse the supermarkets so someone is Wrong On The Internet. But ds needs bathing Smile enjoy shopping!

If you think they're horrible then I can see why finding clothes you like is difficult. Do you have examples of what you like?
HaveringWavering · 26/04/2021 19:52

However OP, one of the reasons that baby clothes tend to come in paler or sludgy colours is that real brights tend to fade quite badly if they are washed a lot. I had exactly that problem with all my Little Bird and Frugi stuff in vivid reds and greens.

Lilymossflower · 26/04/2021 20:14

Please check out babipur website. And brands like maxomorra, frugi, etc.
You can also join facebook groups getting them second hand cheaper price they are such good quality.
Such vibrant colours and prints that can be for either boys or girls.
I agree gendered high street kids and baby clothes are shit.
