If so what it is and how much do you make pcm?

I have seen LOADS on my sm recently and I’m so curious about them.

I'm too lazy, and work to live, not live to work.

RantyAnty · 25/04/2021 07:32

I have several side hustles

Crypto trading
give workshops in my main occupation
created a few mobile apps

Inneedofanewwardrobe · 25/04/2021 07:40

@sweetclems what kind of blog?

TheresNothingIWantMore · 25/04/2021 07:42

I'm not sure if it counts but I enter competitions on line. I only restarted about a month ago, so far I've won a posh bottle of gin and some glasses.

When I used to do it a few years ago I used win things quite regularly. 1 year I won a £500 blue water (shopping centre) voucher and the following year a £500 Debenhams voucher - they pretty much sorted Christmas those 2 years. Still for hours put in vs pay off its not worth it unless you happen to be really lucky - I just like doing it and the thrill of the occasional win!

It's changed quite a bit over the years - it used to be all on-line forms now it's far more social media based.

I agree with this. The thought of spending yet more hours slogging over a screen in my spare time (MN doesn't count) is very unappealing after my 37.5 pw.

My "side hustle" (selling antiques online) began as far back as the 1970 when I began selling at weekend antiques fairs on top of my full time job. That lasted til the mid 1980s when I returned to education and moved cities. I began selling online in the early 2000s again as a side line from employment. I retired from full time employed work in 2005 and then became officially self employed .

I have other sources of income from pensions and investments but expect to make between £2000-£4000 per month after tax and allowances. I work about 20 hours a week. I employ an accountant (he is a relative) so I get maximum advantage from legitimate tax avoidance.

Thighdentitycrisis · 25/04/2021 09:58

I do extra bank work with a private client, the hourly pay is the same as my main desk job but it’s ‘as and when’. Last month I made £100

Also sell stuff on Ebay

ToffeePennie · 25/04/2021 10:01

Kind of. I have a Health related business (NOT MLM) and I am a private tutor.

Offback · 25/04/2021 10:01

Yes. I have a business, sell through social media marketing and Etsy. Take out anywhere between 5/10k per month depending on whether I invest in new products (after vat/tax etc). You can make a profit from Etsy although you don’t have much control over your own business via this platform.

I also work full time. Plan on giving this up in around a years time once I’ve established a consistent monthly income. Now restrictions are being eased, I’m sure this will have an effect on online sales volume.

I think Circles’ information is inaccurate.

TheSugarRefiner · 25/04/2021 10:08

I did used to do some 'consultancy' work for Public Health England on Test and Trace but it's dried up recently. Managed to do it for 11 months though and it paid a lot for what I had to do!

CirclesWithinCircles · 25/04/2021 10:08

@Hesontrial

I think Circles’ information is inaccurate.
Oh well, that extensive explanation will help all the posters out there who work in a completely different field to me understand my post about 8 pages back then, won't it!
Hesontrial · 25/04/2021 10:23

Ok. Someone said
“A lot of salaried roles preclude other paid work outwith your normal hours of employment. Mine is one of them. So, no.”

And someone else said
“They cannot preclude them. They might think they can, but they can't”

And Circles said
"They" being the Law Society, most certainly can. I don't fancy being up on a charge of bringing the profession into disrepute because I fancy doing a bit of chance-your-arm stuff in my spare time.“

And I think that’s inaccurate.

Candycane57 · 25/04/2021 10:33

I make and sell jewellery as a hobbie business. It's about 300 PCM because I do limited stock at the moment (I'm pregnant and use of chemicals isn't safe). In full swing I can earn between 800 and 1200.

saltychoc · 25/04/2021 10:41

I've recently started an Etsy business selling my handmade items.
I think I currently only earn £100 a month but my dream is to earn enough for it to be my main income.

So they don't employ T&T anymore? Won't you get work again when things open up?

I'm so impressed with what people are doing!

What's your page I'll like it!

And she said and she said...

"She" did indeed say that about salaried roles, because it's true in a lot of contracts. I didnt want to use the word "professional", because some people find it exclusionary or snooty.

The poster who replies to me on page 1 then confused restrictive covenants preventing someone working for a competitor on leaving your job fir a limited time 8eriod with a clause in your current contract preventing you from taking on other paid work.

That poster also indicated that nothing you do outwith your working time can affect your employment, which is obviously untrue. People can be dismissed for posting on eocial media in a way that affects their role, never mind taking 9n some dodgy tax free "side hustle", particularly one which involves pestering their work colleagues present or past.

Generally the point is that in some jobs, the role requires you to devote all your working energy to it (and supposedly the remuneration is meant to adequately compensate for that).

Not exactly
controversial.

It’s a capital gain strategy rather than an income, but I invest in property in India. I couldn’t afford a UK buy to let as the entry and exit costs are too high, but in India I buy off-plan, furnish and interior decorate to a very high standard, then sell on and re-invest.

I’m an Indian citizen married to a British Indian but as far as I’m aware it’s fairly easy for other nationalities too.

Eviethyme · 25/04/2021 11:24

I've just invested in AMC and I'm hoping for a squeeze. So far with investing I have earnt over 100k and invested about 10k in total.

If AMC does as well as I'm thinking it will I'll get about 2.8 mil from it.
Also have GME stocks which I'm thinking will squeeze after AMC does.

Pineapplejuice22 I am a teacher as in I have a PGCE, although I hadn't taught for years and a teaching qualification from university certainly isn't necessary. You do need to be uni level educated in the majority of cases, and you do need a TEFL/TESOL (at least a 120 hour one). These are easy enough to get online. There are a lot of companies you can apply to, here are some of them if you'd like to research them - Whales English, EF, ITutorGroup, MagicEars, BlingABC......there are others too. I find it very flexible as regards to fitting in with school - I am a lone parent and the prime hours for teaching are hang on for UK school hours. It's pretty much ideal. However, in the vast majority of cases you are self employed so it's not exactly secure.
(If you'd like to go down this route I get 70 USD for referrals so please remember me before you apply ;)!!!)

shivawn · 25/04/2021 12:17

No. If I really wanted to make extra money for something then I can do as much overtime as I like at work for double pay but I don't actually need to.

ShesMadeATwatOfMePam · 25/04/2021 12:31

I've got a side hustle. My side hustle is making things and selling them. My side hustle has lost me quite a lot of money so far but nothing ventured nothing gained. i find my side hustle really rewarding and I've met loads of great people through my side hustle. A side hustle isn't for everyone but I'm hoping that one day my side hustle will become my full time job.

Have i said side hustle enough yet?

dragoncena · 25/04/2021 14:17

@TakemedowntoPotatoCity can I ask which one you'd recommend and what the hourly rate is please? I have a CELTA and this is something I'd be interested in. Also how do they pay you, by bank transfer?

Toilenstripes · 25/04/2021 14:23

For the offended, the term ‘side hustle’ tends to be used jokingly or irreverently by Americans. “Lady Mary’s side hustle is renting out the estate for weddings in July and August.”
