If so what it is and how much do you make pcm?

I have seen LOADS on my sm recently and I’m so curious about them.

I've got old tech in the attic... Game cube. Game boys ect.
Never knew they would be worth money .

Kona84 · 24/04/2021 20:32

I have a photo print shop on Etsy that I set up last year.
Unfortunately traffic is low and I’ve not had much time to work on it.
I’ve not made much

I have the skills that people often ask why I don’t sell things on Etsy. I point out that the most of the people selling on Etsy are not paying themselves anywhere close to a decent hourly wage and certainly no where close to what I can bill per hour in my main career. It makes far more sense to focus on my main job than to work any sort of side hustle.*

How do you know that?
I can assure you I make a very healthy profit on my craft items.
I buy materials in bulk, make in large batches.
Get the labelling professionally done and you can turn pennies into pounds.
My hourly rate of pay works out at around £36

lastqueenofscotland · 24/04/2021 20:36

I school/exercise unruly horses for people.
I don’t do backing and breaking any more after a horrid accident a few years ago which there is more money in doing, but I comfortably make some extra cash doing something I absolutely love.

Jokie · 24/04/2021 20:38

I do online training courses. It is hard to get into but I've built a bit of a following and now it's giving me a little side income.

ZaraCarmichaelshighheels · 24/04/2021 20:40

@Slipperfairy

'Side hustle' makes you sound daring and driven, rather than selling magic coffee or knock off perfume and recruiting an army of huns.
It really doesn’t, it makes you sound dodgy and like you are swindling money out of people.
BuckysArm · 24/04/2021 20:43

I make magazine layout templates and coach indie magazine founders through starting out.

I also write (but that’s part of my ‘day’ job too. This includes content marketing, journalism and I self-publish under a pen name. I also make a bit each year from writing comps, not sure if that counts?

I ask do the business side (accounts, listings, images, social) for a friend’s Etsy shop and we split the profit 50/50.

CorvusPurpureus · 24/04/2021 20:46

I'm a teacher.

I've done 1-1 tutoring (kids not at my school, obviously) & can easily charge £50ph. It's very easy money, but I don't enjoy it so turn the work down these days. I like the buzz of a classroom & find tutoring dull.

I do a fair bit of exam marking this time of year - currently doing IB extended essays. Also very boring, but it pays for a nice holiday - & more to the point, it's genuinely helpful with the day job.

wheresmymojo · 24/04/2021 20:49

I do specialist career change coaching.

It can be anywhere between £0-£5k pcm on top of my full time job (who are aware of my business).

I also do a bit of virtual assistant work for a friend which is approx. £100pcm.

2bunny · 24/04/2021 20:58

I have one I make personalised gifts started last year hoping it will be full time and I'll let you know if I make any money whatever I make at the moment goes back into it but I'm determined 😁

Palared · 24/04/2021 21:01

I make between £500-£1000 doing YouTube, varies massively and it didn't pay for years. But I started it as a hobby for fun with no intention of making money off it, so I'm pleased with the amount I can get.

SirenSays · 24/04/2021 21:02

I've made all sorts to sell over the years. My skincare and bath products were popular but the profit margins weren't that great. Most lucrative were my costumes, but since Covid shut down all the festivals and events I had to put that on the back burner.

Iseeyoulookingatme · 24/04/2021 21:05

I have a part time business on Etsy and amazon I turnover about £15k a year most of my money goes back Into the business as I like to buy new machinery so I can make new products. When my son is older I will be doing this full time and hope to make a lot more.

What kind of content do you make?
Susannahmoody · 24/04/2021 21:11

*makes mental note to say side hustle as often as possible, in any context, on MN

ShopTattsyrup · 24/04/2021 21:12

I sell plants, I am naturally green fingered, love plants and have a bit of an eye for a discounted houseplant that I can revive.

I don't make very much - around £100 pcm. But I essentially do it becuase I love growing plants and propagating cuttings but have limited space to store them all!

elfycat · 24/04/2021 21:17

I sell 'woo' stuff on Etsy and Amazon, mostly crystals, and craft items with gemstone beads. I've been trying to grow it over the last year and it's beginning to pay a decent wage for the hours I do between school-runs.

I also buy vintage jewellery and sell on Etsy, and occasionally making and selling pictures made with broken jewellery/vintage beads - but that's slipped a bit with the home-learning during lockdown thing.

Queenofbeebers · 24/04/2021 21:20

I used to do PA for a friend work cash in hand. In the end I had to start up my own business as it was just too much to do it ‘under the table’. Covid put paid to it. Now my only side hustle is helping DH run his business which I don’t take salary from
yet. I also work part time.

zenasfuck · 24/04/2021 21:21

I sell bath bombs, natural beauty products, essential oils, aromatherapy products, soaps, salts etc

Plus crystals, tarot cards, silver jewellery and trinkets

shuuush · 24/04/2021 21:22

I make around 200.00 a week but most of that goes back into stock.
It's not MlM It's my own product with no one else involved - I used my birthday money last year to buy a small amount of stock and off I went I started selling during lockdown and it's done really well.

shuuush · 24/04/2021 21:22

I also have a full time job.

Palared · 24/04/2021 21:24

What kind of content do you make?

Originally started off about one particular game, but now it's branched off a bit to others, talking about the lore, storyline, reviews, expansion packs etc. Nerd stuff basically Grin

ginswinger · 24/04/2021 21:24

I do airbnb in our spare room, makes about £600 a month in non covid times. We quite enjoy the variety of guests!

stackemhigh · 24/04/2021 21:25

This thread is giving me serious deja vu. An OP asked about people’s side hustles over a year ago and people acted as if the OP was asking them if they moonlighted as prostitutes!

YANBU, OP, I don’t have a side hustle but admire anyone who has the energy to have one.

DarlingWithoutYou · 24/04/2021 21:25

@Hoppinggreen

I sometimes do candidate assessment for The Police on the side. I love it, well paid and flexible and doesn’t interfere with my main job
I'd like to do this
