I work for a complete narcissist..

I'm leaving my job in a few weeks.. Currently working my notice..moving onto a new role elsewhere.
My CEO is a complete narcissist.. Today she has pushed me to the absolute limit and I've broken.. She then tells me she doesn't need me crying and putting that on her as well as everything else.
I'm on a part time contract and I'm working full time hours. I'm a single parent but never ever let my personal circumstances get in the way of work. I think I'm a hard working and professional EA. I've got 15 years of experience in the industry.
I've resigned primarily because of her.. I actually feel bullied by her. Nobody seems to tell her she behaves inappropriately or speaks awfully to colleagues.. We have no proper HR department in our company..
I hate every day I have to work here. They've kept me to my 4 weeks notice and asked me to work an extra couple of days to help because its a ridiculously busy time. I agreed because I'm a good person but now feel like telling them to stuff it. I hate it. I hate my job and I hate her. I don't respect a CEO that is a bully.
No point to this thread just wanted to vent because I've been in tears all morning.

So pleased for you @Pebbledashery - you deserve a break, with people who can see your potential. It's always nerve wracking starting a new job, but you are doing really well. And if it doesn't pan out, you always have your old job to fall back on....Grin

You will be fine. It takes time in a new role and you appear to be acing it!

It's only week two.
Go easy on yourself.

Please keep posting.
So lovely to hear your updates.

Just read the whole thread. OP, I’m so happy for you that things have worked out well. I’ve has a bullying boss before, so I really empathise. I also know that bullies can affect your confidence. Believe what your Exec is telling you. You are clearly extremely competent. I wish you the very best.

Another cracking update, well done, Pebble Smile

Good for you @Pebbledashery. You'll get to grips with all of the terminology being used in time, so don't stress over that. Take loads of notes. If you have any questions, put a mark beside the bits that you need to have clarified.
Keep doing what you're doing as your new manager is happy with what you're doing.
Take it easy on yourself and congratulations all around!

I remember when I started in telecoms in quite a Senior role, but with no background in telecoms, I used to keep a list at the back of a notebook of terms I came across that I didn't understand. I'd then ask afterwards what they meant and add the explanations so that I could refer back to the list if necessary.

I soon got to know and understand the terminology.

Good luck. You've got this SmileThanks

@Pebbledashery

Hi all. Just thought I'd share a little update. Worked from home today as I had my first covid jab. Been a bit flat out today and overwhelmed as I had been in teams calls all morning. Its seems as if my Exec wants to really develop the EA role and make it into a Business Manager role.. I felt a bit overwhelmed and wondered if I'd ever be good enough to actually understand the subject matter I'm dealing with. I'm currently in meetings where I have no clue what anyone is talking about and the medical terminology is way over my head 🤣. But that being said its essentially week 2, and he's at a conference tomorrow and Friday and signed off by saying how glad he is I came to be his EA and in a short space of time I've turned several things around and he's super, super impressed.

So feeling a bit better about it all :)

@Pebbledashery - I used to be a nurse, and am at something of a loose end now (in hospital with Covid, darnit), so if you want to send me any medical terms, I can see if I know any of them - if that would help.
Loubiemoo · 31/05/2021 12:14

I’m a nurse in the NHS and still write down acronyms and abbreviations (SOB isn’t what you think it is btw 🤣) especially as I recently moved to a new speciality.

How is your new job going OP?

You spent ages working for somebody who treated you as though you were an idiot and constantly told you that you weren't good enough. Of course you're feeling apprehensive about new things you aren't 100% on in the first fortnight.

I'm willing to bet that at least half of the things you're thinking aren't even in your internal voice - they're hers.

DP has a great way of dealing with those.

Did you ever watch cartoons where the character would have a little devil on one shoulder and an angel on the other? Imagine those negative phrases coming from a tiny tinpot executive wearing a little red cape and horns as she stamps her little hooves and waves her pitchfork. Turn and look at her tiny little raging self as she squeaks that 'you'll never do this'. Look at her face getting redder and redder to match her horns. And then lift your hand and ping that teeny tiny, squeaky, annoying little thing off your shoulder and sails off into the distance to land in a wastepaper bin.
