I'm looking to get a new car have looked at the Peugeot 2008 and Nissan qashqai and possibly the vw tiguan (although that's a bit more pricey for decent reg) my budget is 11k. What cars do you have and how reliable would you say it is?

Anyone?

Not the answer you are looking for, but why do you need an SUV?

They are an environmental disaster and are too big for normal city life.

Kitdeluca1 · 22/04/2021 08:43

Nissan qashqai any day for me, I love mine. Plenty of space inside for the kids and buggy and shopping. I’d definitely get one again!

Bagelsandbrie · 22/04/2021 08:46

We have a Kia Sportage and love it. We love Kias as we love the 7 year warranty and find the service and reliability really good - this is our second one.

Seeline · 22/04/2021 08:48

I hate my QQ - don't agree about the space. Very cramped in the back, especially as the kids get older, and the boot room is laughable. JUst glad I didn't have mine when I was having to get buggies etc into the boot.

It's horribly underpowered, no pulling power on a slight incline. Hate overtaking on the motorway.

Poor visibility, with huge blind spots.

not much love for them on this thread from earlier this week

Stonecity · 22/04/2021 08:52

@Darker
Where does OP say she lives a "normal city life"?

I am looking into an SUV type car because I need space for my wheelchair. Also a higher up car helps enormously as my hips are prone to dislocate regularly. Is that a good enough reason to get an SUV in the city?

Really, we've no idea about other people's circumstances so why not answer the question if you can and move along if you can't? Hmm

WellTidy · 22/04/2021 08:54

We have a Hyundai Santa Fe premium SE and I love it. Bought it four or five years ago when it was six months old. But we should have bought a petrol car and not a diesel. It is our second car, so not buses as much as our petrol one, but still.

I know that many of these things come as standard, but I think the reversing camera is excellent quality, love the ability to save two sitting positions in the driver seat, loads of boot room (due to the two extra seats) and the seats and steering wheel heat up quickly (and separately).

Oilpyi · 22/04/2021 08:55

If you don’t have a specific SUV need such as a mobility need have you considered an estate car? I love having a big boot and decent fuel efficiency with it. Inside is pretty standard, 3 kids in the back.

Possomcandle · 22/04/2021 08:59

I have a Tiguan. Performance wise I can't fault it, it has been extremely reliable on both deep snow and icy roads.
One reason I bought it is that it has a good safety record.
We have had multiple filter issues though. The 4wd was not working when we bought it and we have since had to pay out for a clean of all the filters too. It is also pretty bad for fuel economy imo.

Jericha · 22/04/2021 09:00

I have a QQ, it's a 1.5dci. I do a lot of miles so went for this engine and it's so economical on fuel. I'm semi rural and good for winter when there's occasional flash flooding. Large dog fits in the boot with a guard easily, I find mine nippy enough for overtaking and the motorway. I have a very bad back since having my son, it was great when he was a baby for putting the car seat in. No issues with it in the four years I've had it.

In hindsight I do wish I looked into an estate, the dog would find it easier to get in and out (I actually lift him in so save his legs, which isn't great for my back!) and a bit more room. Now my child is bigger it's a bit high to reach over to strap him in, but I am very short.

I have managed to fit all sorts into the QQ though, including an electric boxed treadmill and mattresses and all sorts.

Marie5678 · 22/04/2021 09:03

I have three kids so looking for a bigger car, I wanted a golf but realistically probably be too small as the kids get older just looking for something that will last a decent while

Why can’t @Darker ask a Q and respond with her opinion politely in an open forum?

Angrypregnantlady · 22/04/2021 09:05

I have a seat ateca and bloody love it. Perfect. Don't think it fits three seats along the back if that's something you need but it has plenty of space for us without being a huge monster either.

Wanderlust20 · 22/04/2021 09:06

Just got a Hyundai Tucson (I'm expecting so needed a bigger car) and I love it! Considered others and did a fair amount of research but that came out trumps and the, warranty is good.

Parky04 · 22/04/2021 09:06

Kia Sportage. Best car we have ever had.

DeepfriedPizza · 22/04/2021 09:10

I have a Peugot 2008, the older style one. We had to get an SUV type (before anyone judges) because my dog is car sick so this is what we ended up with as it's got a good size boot for her. I do like it but It's only done 20k miles and needed £2k worth of repairs last year. What you need to watch out for is tyre size. Ours is the same size tyres as a van would have therfore more expensive to replace.

Skoda have an SUV type model (can't remember the name) and gets good reviews.

I'll probably get an estate next time though as dog will be getting older and won't be able to jump.

DappledOliveGroves · 22/04/2021 09:10

We have a Qashqai. 2018 diesel. We have the Tekna spec which is great.

It's our second qashqai - absolutely love it. The engine and power are great (though I know people with the petrol models complain about slow acceleration and a pick of power), boot space is good and the 360 reverse camera is a godsend.

GameSetMatch · 22/04/2021 09:14

We have the Ford Kuga Vignale, it’s a hybrid and very comfortable. Leather seats so easy to clean, very quiet and a huge boot for all our crap. We got it brand new last month but I’d already recommend it.

It has little extras like wireless phone charging etc.

Milkand2sugarsplease · 22/04/2021 09:16

We have an MG ZS which has been great. Seems spacious inside and a big boot. Nice to drive and really inexpensive to buy. It is far from the top of the market but it's down what we wanted without having to pay a fortune.

PurBal · 22/04/2021 09:17

Family members have a Skoda Karoq and a Volvo XC40 which are both a similar size. The former is an entry level petrol and the latter an all wheel drive. DH and I have actually decided to look at a VW Golf, Seat Leon or Skoda Octavia because the boot space is bigger than the aforementioned "smaller" SUVs. Our budget is £14k and cost-wise we felt it was better value for money getting a bigger estate car than an SUV. Eg the Karoq has a boot space of 520l and the Octavia Estate is 640l.

PurBal · 22/04/2021 09:19

I should say that both the Karoq and XC40 are lovely to drive! Both are just a couple of years old so may not be in budget.

Can we get past the idea that SUV = gas guzzling monster?

It depends entirely on the model chosen. Some are, some are more efficient than normal hatchbacks. It's a stupid generalisation.

The OP didn't say they have specific needs and are looking for a solution. They just said that they want an SUV, which is why I asked why they wanted an SUV and I gave two, in my opinion very good, reasons why an SUV are a bad idea.

It's a public forum where people post their views.

Most of these cars aren’t even SUVs.......... like the quashqai and sportage, so I don’t see what people are getting so worked up about 😂

Exactly. I had a Sportage. It said "estate car" on the V5.
