I'm looking to get a new car have looked at the Peugeot 2008 and Nissan qashqai and possibly the vw tiguan (although that's a bit more pricey for decent reg) my budget is 11k. What cars do you have and how reliable would you say it is?

...good write ups

bettertimesarecomingnow · 22/04/2021 20:03

I have a RR sport but before that I had a Ford kuga which was 11k and I loved it

So great, heaps of boot space too!

Pl242 · 22/04/2021 20:04

Another vote for Skoda kodiaq

serin · 22/04/2021 20:09

Hyundai Tucson. Until recently had Volvo XC90 but got fed up with fuel costs and repair bills. We bought a Hyundai as we have 2 other hyundai models in our family and they have been superbly reliable.
I really rate Korean cars.

PinkiOcelot · 22/04/2021 20:10

I had a Peugeot 2008. Worst car I’ve ever had. Hated it.
Wanted rid of it after 3 months but would have lost too much on it. Managed to get rid after a year.

KikoMiko · 22/04/2021 20:14

Suzuki Vitara. Best car I've ever owned. Not too big, good mpg, all mod cons.

Asdf12345 · 22/04/2021 20:19

Two Landrover discoveries. We allow a couple of grand a year for servicing and maintenance. Not too bad on fuel, tow well, loads of space.

We would probably get a pickup if replacing one after a work sideline makes the tax deductibles obtainable.

Iwant2move · 22/04/2021 20:22

Volvo XC60. I get 52 to the gallon from my gas guzzler.

Coasterfan · 22/04/2021 20:27

Smaller than some mentioned on here but I would say bigger than a Peugeot 2008, I have a Citroen C4 cactus and I love it, high up, quirky looking and really nice to drive as well as being pretty decent on fuel. I had a Citroen C3 aircross last year as a courtesy car for a couple of weeks and also loved that. My kids are 11 and 13 and have plenty of room in the back and the boot is a reasonable size too.

19lottie82 · 22/04/2021 20:31

I have a 2013 Freelander. I use it for transporting my 2 German shepherds and large car parts around (DH and I own a garage). DH also uses it for towing boats occasionally in the Summer.

SomethingAboutNothing · 22/04/2021 20:33

I recently got a Mazda CX-5 and I love him! A lovely drive, loads of boot space and plenty of space in the back. I've named him Mickey 😂

Cookie79 · 22/04/2021 20:35

I have a 4 year old Jeep Renegade. It’s smaller than my last “normal” car (DH compared the measurements because he does that sort of thing). Mpg isn’t great but it served me well over winters getting to work over the tops. Strange handbrake but I’m used to it now.

Now once I’ve moved for my new job do I need an suv? No but I’m not in a position to buy a new car when I have a perfectly good one that works, we’ll run this until it’s old and giving us £800 MOT bills like the last car.

Though I’d love a Mini Cooper S. 😍. In yellow.

Racingadmin · 22/04/2021 20:45

Not sue if it qualifies as an suv but I love my Kia Soul. It's a bit boxy to look at but has excellent head and leg room in the back for teen ds who is 6ft 1.

Nice high driving position , plenty of boot space and the seven year warranty can transfer if you buy second hand

WowStarsWow · 22/04/2021 21:22

Oh I love an MN car thread Grin all the usual suspects coming out with the best comments!

The idea of a 1.3 qashqai having good acceleration...! 😂 some people have clearly never driven anything with more than about 120hp!

FedNlanders · 22/04/2021 21:25

@mrsnoodle55

I bought a 3 year old Kia Sorento for £11k, 2 years ago. It’s fabulous, still got 2 yrs warranty left.

Proper seats in the boot available for the odd time my 16yr old and 2 kids in car seats need to travel together. Really practical. Am starting saving for the hybrid version when this dies a death in years to come as I’m a Kia convert after this.

We love our kids sorrento too.
JustAnotherOldMan · 22/04/2021 21:34

I’ve got a Kuga, great car, like a focus inside, loads about choices of Petrol of Diesel, FWD & AWD, loads of trim versions and colours, get them auto or manual

11k will get you 2016/17 30/40k or so.
When my dad was ill I was taking him or chemotherapy sessions in it, very easy for him to get in and out of

nodtik · 22/04/2021 21:38

Not SUV but Volvo V60 Cross Country

One of the safest cars on the road - AWD and amazing space!

Would not buy anything else but Volvo - build quality second to none!

Hesma · 22/04/2021 22:01

I have a Vauxhall Mokka and I love it. It was perfect last year while I was waiting to have knee surgery.

balloonsintrees · 22/04/2021 22:47

@MissConductUS

I have a 2020 Subaru Forester and it's brilliant. We traded in a 2009 Forester with 160k miles that never failed us. Nothing beats a Subaru in snow and the reliability is tops.
Omg yes, I am still running a 2005 Forester and it is lovely (battered and worn but does a good job) Happily carried bariatric, steel wheelchair, buggy , 2 adults, a baby and a teenager for about 3 years. (Out of wheelchair now and toddler refuses buggy, now just a bootful of shopping bags and rugby balls!)
Meatshake · 22/04/2021 22:49

I've got a Mazda CX5 sportnav, it's an absolute dream to drive, really sporty and corners really well. It's loaded with gadgets and safety features, interior is a lot fancier than similar cars in its price range (more BMW than cheapo plasticky)

DeedledeDee · 22/04/2021 22:52

SKODA. Yeti. Diesel Automatic, three back seats that can be folded down ,plus they can be removed so increasing space into the boot area.

It's very reliable and cheap to run

BritWifeinUSA · 23/04/2021 03:49

Jeep Cherokee. We live in the middle of nowhere and not all roads are paved. We also have a malamute and a husky. We bought this particular model as it is apparently the most American car you can buy with 79% of the components made here. We like to buy American where we can.

I have an Audi Krusher. It glides through hatchbacks like a hot knife through butter. I feel so safe.
