I take it mentioning her or her partner is banned.

Can I just say how utterly disgusted I am from learning about the actions of her partner on here- and nearly just as much from the lack of reporting of this by the press and on here too? Disgraceful. The man still has the gall to have a live Twitter account!!!

I think this needs to be seen by readers of "The Times' newspapers.

You have a writer who is living with and standing by a convited pedophile.
His case did not go to court because of a email mistake. It went to court because they had hard evidence that it wasn't.

iMatter · 22/04/2021 19:13

@Xenia

I am certainly not friends with Ms Knight and I think the whole lot of them vote Labour and the man concerned was a Labour MP, so they sound more like those London champagne socialists types.

The issue of when we blame women for what men do is not always very easy and the stand by your man where women are under the power of someone is hard to be fair over, not that I know either of them. MN certainly has an awful lot of sympathetic discussions regarding women who stay with violent men when it is not wise to do so (not that I am saying he has been violent to her here - it was a fellow journalist of hers Rod Liddle who apparently saw his much youner lover whilst on his honeymoon and then was violent to the pregnant lover - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rod_Liddle )

I am not an apologist for any of these kinds of people despite the suggestions above. However some of our sex crimes laws make me think just about anyone in the country could have fallen foul of them (despite doing nothing wrong in many cases) so I do have a concern about that.

Snorting at "they all vote Labour" and they are "champagne socialists" as if that's the worst thing they could do

GlassBoxSpectacular · 22/04/2021 19:19

@Handsoffstrikesagain

Sorry if there was confusion still, I’m referring to the person with the elaborate posting history on MN, not the disgusting things Eric Joyce did.
On the other hand, it’s tempting to keep going just to see how long they can continue to insist that this could happen to anyone and despite the guilty plea, evidence-based conviction, and lack of appeal, there’s a very clear chance that this is an unsafe conviction brought about by unwittingly clicking on a spam link and innocently searching for questionable terms and young girls because they were wanting to buy a child a dress blah blah blah Rod Liddle, plus some other risible bullshit. Hmm
MrsMackesy · 22/04/2021 19:20

Agreed, @iMatter !

For the record, Joyce was actually suspended from the Labour Party and then resigned, remaining in politics as an Independent MP until retiring in 2015.

Never underestimate some people's ability for mental gymnastics and "playing devil's advocate ".

Yes, and all the while the focus is being taken away from the point - the point is what Joyce actually did.
HemanOrSheRa · 22/04/2021 19:36

I believe he was forced to stand down as an MP because he had a relationship with a 17 year old. She was still at school and had volunteered at his constituency office before the 2010 elections. He was 49 at the time. He's rotten to the core.

His list of transgressions is rather lengthy, isn’t it? Angry

I didn't know about that. Even without the abuse video conviction , why would anyone take him into their life? Into their vulnerable child's home?
HemanOrSheRa · 22/04/2021 20:33

I think the relationship came to light when he was suspended at the time because of the headbutting incident in the House Of Commons bar. So possibly overshadowed by that. Quite how he has avoided prison I do not know. Friends in high places indeed.

Watchingthetelly · 22/04/2021 21:00

Genuine question here - what evidence is there that she has stayed with him please? Agree her tweet was dreadful but it didn’t seem to confirm whether they were/are still together. He seems to be an absolutely despicable man.

MakingMyOwnDamnTea · 22/04/2021 21:25

Julie Burchill has said some awful stuff on Ireland/the Irish and to Ash Sarkar but on this she is totally right. I can’t believe this has been so quietly buried away. Appalling pair.

@Watchingthetelly well, IK is so solipsistic that if they had broken up I’m thinking she would have been announcing it from the rooftops.

Hearnoevilspeaknoevil · 22/04/2021 21:37

There's a few comments on her tweets. As a poster said up thread, it's sickening they treat his abuse as a blip.
I enlightened a few colleagues to this today. They hadn't heard. One is now cancelling her Times subscription.

EsmaCannonball · 22/04/2021 21:58

I wasn't a fan of India Knight even before all this, but I'm also not a fan of cancel culture. As she's not in a position of authority over vulnerable people I wouldn't call for her to be sacked. However, she can't really continue as a comment piece columnist without explaining her actions over Eric Joyce in detail. Having a writer pronouncing lofty judgements on other women's choice of mascara or childcare arrangements, while ignoring the massive elephant in the room of having a boyfriend convicted of child sex offences, just makes anyone who publishes her work look shallow and ridiculous. I don't know how she can continue without addressing it.

@HeyGirlHeyBoy

I can't see your comment!
It’s under her second comment on the Meatloaf thread...
HeyGirlHeyBoy · 23/04/2021 06:02

Weirdly I still can't see it. Wondering if it has been filtered somehow.

thereoncewaslove · 23/04/2021 06:29

I wasn't aware of this until reading this thread. Actually makes me feel sick to my stomach, how could you stand by that!?

Vargas · 23/04/2021 07:51

He is utterly revolting and frankly so is she if she stays with him. I will never read anything she writes again, and I am still surprised every time I still see she is employed by the Times.

And it is infuriating to think that people go to jail for not paying for their tv license or for shoplifting, but they don't go to jail for watching children being raped.

Pottedpalm · 23/04/2021 07:56

Are all these threads about India Knight started bu the same person?

BuyYourOwnBBQGlenda · 23/04/2021 11:26

Is there something we can do to prompt a social media buzz? Re tweeting? Start a petition? Did Private Eye report on it? We get it but I must confess I usually only scan to see if my big 4 employer has been mentioned.

BringMeTea · 23/04/2021 11:54

Yes, it needs to be kept visible. Well done each and every poster who starts threads raising awareness of this.

NorksFromThaNorth · 23/04/2021 13:35

@Xenia you really can't just stumble onto child porn via a normal search engine like google. You would have to access the dark web surely?.
