No matter how you style them?

I love cardis, I have so many I think maybe it depends on your figure, I have no boobs and they don't look frumpy at all on me (even if I do say so myself!) But I think a bigger bust with a cardigan can look a bit matronly. I guess it's down to whether it's suits your figure and whether it's your style or not.

RampantIvy · 19/04/2021 22:21

Reading this thread has made mw want to wear a cardigan tomorrow Grin
I'm slim with small boobs as well.

Mypathtriedtokillme · 20/04/2021 05:29

I’m wearing my Cardie and embracing my frump.

eaglejulesk · 20/04/2021 05:39

I dress in cardigans, trainers, dungarees and i hate heels...clearly i llive in Frumpsville!

I want to move to Frumpsville! Somehow I have managed to get to 61 without ever owning a pair of heels, and dress in jeans, cardigans and trainers - will you have me?

stackemhigh · 20/04/2021 05:42

@LemonSherbetFancies

Believe it or not I have got a life so can't sit around eagerly lapping up every single reply and feeling like I have been very naughty to express an opinion. Sorry to disappoint.
Can’t have much of a life if this is what consumes you.

God forbid a woman try and be warm and comfortable in her clothing.

HikeForward · 20/04/2021 05:44

Not if you get the cut and length right.

I think the cardigan rule is: with a dress (say a knee length or maxi dress) cardigan needs to be cropped and fitted so the hem sits on your natural upper waist. And tight enough to nip the waist in with a tie or button(s).

With a tunic, cardigan hem should reach the tunic hem or it just looks weird.

A tight or fitted outfit and you can get away with a baggy slouchy cardigan provided its modern eg dropped shoulders, fine knit cashmere, waterfall style, wrap etc.

Also avoid bobbly wool, lots of buttons or those straight up and down cardigans that look like men’s ones 😊

I stopped worrying about whether I look frumpy about 20 years ago. If people don’t like what I’m wearing they can always look away.

fairycakes1234 · 20/04/2021 12:22

@speakout

And so???

I don't give a shit.

what type of reply is that, are you just rude for the sake of it???
ComDummings · 20/04/2021 12:24

I love a good cardigan!

honeybuns007 · 20/04/2021 12:37

@Candycane57

I look either hippy, frumpy or like a toddler in cardigans. Couldn't give less of a shit if it keeps me warm. I think long cardigans are lovely but my arse sticks out so far I look like the Libra symbol from the side

I like cardis but I hate most of the outfits pictured on this thread to demonstrate that they look good.

Each to their own and all that

AryaStarkWolf · 20/04/2021 13:50

It's not just about comfort either, I actually love the way they look, I had serious cardie/jumper envy watching Louise in Behind her Eyes, I loved her style (OK maybe it's a bit because they look comfortable too :p )

Branleuse · 23/04/2021 08:46

Can anyone tell me what we are supposed to wear instead of cardigans that is not frumpy?

The90swereadecadeago · 23/04/2021 08:52

Not frumpy!

I am wearing one of my many cardies today. The house is finally kid free and I am hoping for a quickie later. If it doesn't happen it will obviously be the cardie's fault.

The90swereadecadeago · 23/04/2021 09:02

What is wrong with "frumpy " OP?
And what does that even mean?

I think it means not desirable to men, which of course every woman should strive to be. We are nothing but objects for men to look at and should make ourselves appear to their pleasing. Unless our boobs are too big of course, then we are just slutty or matronly.

tentimesaday · 23/04/2021 09:24

I think jumpers are far frumpier. Also jumpers cover up your gorgeous shirt that you just bought and want to show off.

Branleuse · 23/04/2021 09:28

Big Coats are frumpy too arent they. Also thermals are v. uncool.

We are pretty fucked in the northern hemisphere really arent we if we start worryng about stuff like this

The90swereadecadeago · 23/04/2021 09:40

Can men be frumpy or is it just women?(when they’re not dressed sexually, for men)

HikeForward · 23/04/2021 16:08

Cardigans are Frumpy. They are a small notch up from a fleece or gilet but only just.
Wouldn't be seen dead in one.

What do you wear instead? A preppy blazer? A woolly jumper? A padded anorak? 😂

Anyone who dismisses all cardigans as frumpy clearly has not seen many cardigans. Or doesn’t wear a style that flatters their figure.

LongHotSummerJustPassedMeBy · 23/04/2021 16:18

The Netflix drama Call My Agent has its female characters often wearing cardigans. No frumpiness in sight!

TheLastLotus · 23/04/2021 16:50

It depends on the cut - generic ones get shapeless pretty quickly. Or boxy.
Mine show off my svelte ‘cough cough’ figure pretty well...

thefallthroughtheair · 23/04/2021 16:53

I'm so glad to see the response. I voted yanbu. But I love a cardi myself!

TheLastLotus · 23/04/2021 16:56

@The90swereadecadeago I always thought frumpy just meant billowy, shapeless clothes. Associated with older women (rather unfairly).
I’ve seen quite a few people of all ages who seem to have a liking for clothes like these.
The majority of older women I know though just wear t-shirts and jeans ... the frumpy ones seem to have always been that way

MayYouLiveInInterestingTimes · 23/04/2021 17:40

Always a good question to ask!

I make my cardis, so they’re properly wrap-up warm. The kids have ones I made too, to keep them warm. I much prefer wrapping up warm on a comfy sofa when it’s minus 4 outside, to worrying about being frumpy.

Hopefully there should be a nice picture of some ‘billowy’ and ‘shapeless’ garments attached.
