I bought this from Wallis and I love it. Looks great with skinny jeans and ankle boots

Great cat but also where is that blazer from I need it!

FloraFauna27 · 19/04/2021 10:15

I have just ordered this cardigan and I am so excited to wear it (yes I know it looks like a blanket on the back of your nan’s sofa).

I have a couple of cardi's that are long and have no buttons, and a dinky black one with buttons. I think it's often the buttons or the thick wool that make them frumpy.

It’s lovely, been eyeing that one myself!
FloraFauna27 · 19/04/2021 10:21

Six week wait on it, I would order now before the weather gets too cold to wear it!

I like this one. Clearly it won't be to everyone's taste but that's one reason why I like it. I also like the 70s vibe it's got.

Things that have cracked me up on this thread:

  • The MN bingo staple of 'cashmere cardigan and silk shirt' being the height of style
  • 'It's frumpy if you chop her head off' like clothes aren't worn by people with heads. 'Oh that girl looks incredible in that bikini but if she gained 25 stone you wouldn't say that!' Right eh.
LibertyMole · 19/04/2021 10:52

I did not even know this was a thing.

I have worn cardigans all my life. I don’t actually know what else I could wear over a dress.

To me it is just like saying shirts or skirts or socks are frumpy. It is a basic item of clothing.

ferretface · 19/04/2021 10:59

@ghostyslovesheets it's Next from a few years ago!

Well yes, but the point of the latter one is that it's easy to say "look, string bikinis are amazing" when you're showing it on a supermodel. It's less easy when you're being subjected to the sight of it on my colossal backside. At best, the point is that it looks good on people who would look good in anything, so it's not much argument for how it works on us mere mortals in real life.
Landofthefree · 19/04/2021 11:20

I’ve got thin arms, a large bust and I’m short. V necked cardigans are much more flattering than most jumpers, jackets or fleeces on me. Hoodies or sweatshirts don’t suit me. What else could I possibly wear over a dress or t shirt?

I think cardigans are a basic! normal clothing item - I’m happy to be frumpy Smile

Landofthefree · 19/04/2021 11:29

@PuppyMonkey - great post! Smile

GrumpyHoonMain · 19/04/2021 11:31

Wrap cardigans look good

knackeredcat · 19/04/2021 11:38

I team my long swishy ones with dresses that are - gasp! - worn over leggings. At my age and size I'm probably thought of as frumpy but I really don't care in the scheme of things. I care mostly about comfort thanks to sensory issues.

EastWestWhosBest · 19/04/2021 12:30

If I couldn’t buy and wear clothes I love it would make me thoroughly miserable.

But it’s ok to deride other people’s choices and not let them buy and wear clothes because they are seen as frumpy.

osbertthesyrianhamster · 19/04/2021 13:14

WTF is up with these awful ageist threads. Frumpy, what a shit misogynist word.

RampantIvy · 19/04/2021 13:15

Well said @osbertthesyrianhamster

Exactly. There are a few threads like this around regularly. People are currently being told that dungarees and Pandora bracelets have an age limit.

AryaStarkWolf · 19/04/2021 13:21

Cardies are my favourite. I don't think they look frumpy and really don't care either way

malificent7 · 19/04/2021 13:24

I dress in cardigans, trainers, dungarees and i hate heels...clearly i llive in Frumpsville!

Frumpsville is much more cosy though
Mistressinthetulips · 19/04/2021 13:28

@CirqueDeMorgue

If you're a bit chunky, most thinks will look 'frumpy.'
Translation - "Stay in the house, fat women, as you will never look good!"
RickiTarr · 19/04/2021 13:29

It’s the lack of male gaze, which is like a north wind.

(Feel I need to point out that I do not agree with the sentiments of my last post Blush)
