If you're a bit chunky, most thinks will look 'frumpy.'*

You say shit like that, embarrass women into not exercising and then you’ll undoubtedly be one of the witches shaming them for spiralling into obesity.

Sometimes you need a magnifying glass to find the sisterhood.

This entire thread is just gross.

DontBeRidiculous · 19/04/2021 14:04

AIBU to say that no-one should care whether or not they look "frumpy", so long as they are comfortable, and that it would be stupid to not wear something you like just because someone else thinks it looks "frumpy"?

YANBU.

I feel like buying cardigans in deliberate defiance of the mean girls now.

IHaveBrilloHair · 19/04/2021 14:06

I'm currently wearing dungarees, a long cardigan, converse and to add insult to injury, a Shawn Mendes t-shirt.
There's no hope for meGrin

AryaStarkWolf · 19/04/2021 14:10

@RickiTarr

Frumpsville is much more cosy though

It’s the lack of male gaze, which is like a north wind.

Oh shame it's a few years back I love it!

EsmesRedPetticoat · 19/04/2021 14:27

I don’t think anyone would say Dita Von Teese is frumpy

JaneJeffer · 19/04/2021 15:02

@ShurImGrand123

Do cardigan’s look frumpy?

Who cares?
I’ve never, even as a teen, given a stuff about what other people might think about my (clothes) choices. I have always worn whatever I liked no matter how outrageous or dull. Zero fucks given.

Exactly. Who gives a duck what the fashion police think?
JaneJeffer · 19/04/2021 15:02

Or even a fuck?

mustlovegin · 19/04/2021 17:25

LOL at the desperation to avoid frumpiness at all costs Grin

Alsohuman · 19/04/2021 17:25

Giving up what exactly? Looking attractive to men and shaggable, as is our duty in a patriarchal society?

One of the things I detest about MN is the way words are put in your mouth. If I’d meant looking attractive to men and shaggable as is poor duty in a patriarchal society I’d have said that.

I’m way too old to look shaggable - if indeed I ever did - but I don’t want to look as if I’ve given up on a passion for clothes and desire to look stylish. Which is what I meant. Clear enough?

mustlovegin · 19/04/2021 17:27

Lovely outfit @ferretface

GhoulWithADragonTattoo · 19/04/2021 17:31

I prefer cardies. I find jumpers generally unflattering on me.

MapleMay11 · 19/04/2021 17:31

I'm wearing my brand new mid thigh beaded crochet cardigan today with (rather shorter than I remembered) denim shorts, a black vest and suede heeled calf boots. I love it and couldn't care less what anyone else thinks. Grin

Alsohuman · 19/04/2021 17:34

@EastWestWhosBest

If I couldn’t buy and wear clothes I love it would make me thoroughly miserable.

But it’s ok to deride other people’s choices and not let them buy and wear clothes because they are seen as frumpy.

Except I didn’t.
mustlovegin · 19/04/2021 17:36

Embrace your inner frump Grin

Nonpayingdads · 19/04/2021 17:36

Who cares?

sageflower · 19/04/2021 17:41

Depends on the style, if your not slim, chunky cardis make you look bigger, a slim fitted one with small buttons are flattering and long belted cardis look elegant not frumpy. Also the colour can make a difference, I would stay away from brown and green ones.

Fair enough. Sorry I misunderstood you.
Alsohuman · 19/04/2021 17:45

It’s OK. Thank you for the apology, it’s appreciated.

MadKittenWoman · 19/04/2021 18:13

Love a cardi and definitely not frumpy!

CSIblonde · 19/04/2021 18:58

If they're fitted ,with a pretty strappy top underneath & a few buttons undone to show it I think it's a nice look. Or a thinner fabric long one over a nice top. It's the bulky ones that scream frumpy .
