In the middle of March, RSPCA had knocked on our door. They had a complaint stating an animal was lay in the window not moving they presumed the animal was dead.

Understandably RSPCA came right around. The guy was very amused in finding not a dead dog on the windowsill, but our dog happily sun bathing. My dog gave a half hearted wag of the tail, looked at him and went straight back to sunbathing and watching the world go by.

RSPCA obviously said no more action needed. So imagine my surprise 6 days later when a female RSPCA worker showed up, her attitude was absolutely horrific.

The complaint this time was a lethargic dog on the windowsill with the suspicion of the dog being drugged, because of how unresponsive it was.

I told the Lady she could happily come in and have a look at our dog, just like her colleague had.

She refused and said she can see clearly from the window that the dog looks lethargic, not active and started asking what medication I give the dog that makes him so placid.

I told her he's on no medication, he's sat chilling at the window he's hardly gonna be active when he's lay down! She told me I need to hand over the dogs vet details, and she will discuss everything with my vet, and she can do monthly check ins with my vet making sure my dogs condition improves.

I told her he had no condition, she has no right to my dogs vet records and I will not be handing them over or giving consent. She told me that's suspicious and I would make it easier on myself by giving consent, if not she will get the police to return with her, so she can remove the dog!

I told her conversation was over with, I will happily deal with another colleague but not her, I also phoned RSPCA notifying them of this, and began the complaints procedure online in regards to her.

Thursday we went out for a walk with the dog, when returning home we had missed a calling card from the RSPCA. We called, and they said the inspector on the case will call back.

It was the first gentlemen from last time, he informed us the same complaint had been put in again but apparently the complainer had gone to the window to illicit a response from him and nothing.

They had placed 4 calls within the space of 2 days, and several photos of the dog asleep on the windowsill.

He sounded apologetic, but explained his hands are tied and he can't just close the case like the past 2 times, due to the amount of phone calls and photos sent across.

He claims RSPCA sent the photos over to an independent vet and the vet is showing concern over the "lethargic demeanor" he is displaying in the photos.

He has asked for us to book him into the vets ASAP and give him the report and then he can mark this down as malicious for a year.

I'm really horrified at the thought of someone coming into my garden taking photos through my living room window.

My issue isn't with the RSPCA they are just doing their job, it's whoever is doing this. He confirmed it was the same caller!

I honestly don't know why they are being malicious and acting like this. My anxiety has been sky high since finding out, is someone watching my house? How often are they coming into my garden taking photos? Do they get photos of Myself, two children and DN?

It's not like he barks, my Husband has worked from home since the start of the pandemic. So that is definitely ruled out.

My husband has suggested just stopping him from being on the front windowsill but in my opinion that doesn't solve the issue at all!

We are looking into getting cameras, but is that even legal someone taking photos through my window? Or am I being dramatic and someone is just trying to do a good deed.

OP posts:

Am I being unreasonable?

How ridiculous, but so frustrating that you're having to put up with it. Glad you're getting a camera and hope you get to the bottom of it. When in lockdown my walks were made better by a dog sprawled out on their windowsill, he was there most of the time people watching. Good luck OP!

MorgeMooney · 18/04/2021 00:12

I'd donated to the RSPCA for 10 years until an absolutely horrific experience with them a couple of years ago with my own beloved pet, where they absolutely did not act in the interest of the animal.

I was truly shocked and completely appalled by their handling of our case. I no longer donate to them.

BackAffYaSpookyBint · 18/04/2021 01:01

YANBU. I've had SSPCA at my door over malicious allegations of dog beating! to be fair they were ok, did say that malicious calls make up vast majority of their calls. Some folk are just nasty.
Glad you've got a camera, definitely go to police to report harassment once you have footage of who is doing this. I really wouldnt take him to vet-you know he's healthy and its an unnecessary expense.
Mirror film is fab idea too!

chaosrabbitland · 18/04/2021 01:04

no wonder you are so stressed op , whoever is doing this must be a complete malicious weirdo , , i love animals and i must admit if i see a nice dog or cat in the window i do stop for a look and think to myself ahh dont they look lovely , it would never cross my mind to tresspass in someones garden to start tapping on the window and then phone the rspca , the fact the are repeating it means its malicious . and this is the reason the rspca have such bad bloody press , having 2 cats i belong to groups on fb and the first thing anybody says to a post about found a stray is dont ring rspca , only cats protection . i really hope your camera works and you find out the bugger thats doing this , fingers crossed for you x

RoseRedRoseBlue · 18/04/2021 01:32

RSPCA are awful. They have been exposed many times for some terrible practices.

Sh05 · 18/04/2021 05:55

@KungFuPandaWorksOut20

Tapo C100 WiFi indoor camera ordered! Pick it up tomorrow. Will be on the windowsill so will catch the photographer!

I would probably set it up in an upstairs window so it's not too obvious. If you want to find out who it is you don't want them noticing the camera, it might deter them.
cantbeforeal · 18/04/2021 06:23

This is crazy 😬 I'd hate someone taking photos through my window

readingismycardio · 18/04/2021 06:41

People are just getting crazier and crazier 😡 I hope you find out who it is, OP! So stressing!

DartmoorDoughnut · 18/04/2021 07:03

@RandomMess you have the same type of DDog as my parents, she also loves sunbathing. I don’t think you can see our dog from outside as we have shutters in the downstairs window but he rarely moves once he’s napping!

RedHelenB · 18/04/2021 07:14

I would take him to the vets in your situation just to prove yourself right. Or if there is something wrong it can be looked into.

bonfireheart · 18/04/2021 07:22

Hope you're ok OP, no way should you feel the need to move your dog from the window if he likes being there.

Tbh reading your opening post made me annoyed. I filmed the man who lives opposite me repeatedly hitting his dog and the dog in distress, the RSPCA said this wasn't enough evidence and did nothing about it.

Looubylou · 18/04/2021 07:23

This has the hallmarks of someone with anxiety/mental health concerns rather than being malicious. However, that means they won't give up easily as they will be distressed by what they think are genuine concerns that they must act upon or be consumed with guilt for not saving your dog. I have paid Rspca £20 a month for about 20 years. I am seriously considering transferring my support to Dogs Trust - what a waste of resources. One visit is reassuring - to keep responding after finding healthy well cared for dog is ridiculous. I would report to police, put polite sign in window, seek legal advice. However, I would not risk my dog be distressed out of stubbornness - speak to the vet.

AreTurnipsReal · 18/04/2021 07:23

Getting a camera sounds like like a very immature way to deal with this. It will escalate and there will be more drama.

This would definitely go viral online if you posted photos of your dogs on dogs grouos etc. Everyone could retweet photos of their pets on windowsils with the caption 'THEY'VE BEEN DRUGGED'. Might get RSCPA to back off too.

I realise my idea is as immature as your camera idea.but its more fun Grin

Hope it gets sorted. Sounds very stressful.

KungFuPandaWorksOut20 · 18/04/2021 07:43

@PaTCh64355

Ignore the rspca completely- they are a terrible organisation with no legal powers
The person complaining is clearly a fruit loop

You are correct they have no legal powers, but after doing some research you can see they do some underhanded tactics. He's already threatened to bring the police, which is the last thing I want. Sad

I will provide a vet report but I am not prepared to give them permission to contact my vet whenever they see fit.

See I would say maliciousness. They got told after the first visit he's a sleep boy and then the second visit. To change the complaint slightly each time exaggerating it suggests shit stirring.

I said this to the man at RSPCA does that many phone calls in so many days not strike you as malicious, he said that's not his job to decide what's malicious.

Exactly. This is what is concerning me, they are allowing someone too harass me through them!

I honestly need the camera for my piece of mind, I feel like my life has been intruded on.

I know that sounds extremely dramatic, but this person has been entering my garden, coming to my window and taking pictures inside my house for their vendetta.

KungFuPandaWorksOut20 · 18/04/2021 07:50

@Spanielsarepainless

The RSPCA, contrary to the way their pseudo-police uniformed staff act, have no more rights than anyone else with regard to you, your dog and your property. They cannot demand access to anything without a warranted police officer accompanying them. Don't let them in, don't let them see your dog and don't give any details whatsoever. They have no right to be on your property. If they continue to harass you, tell the police, your MP and the Charity Commission.

Will doing that actually help matters by contacting them, or make RSPCA angry and continue this intrusion.

This is quite helpful.
www.doglistener.co.uk/rspca-and-your-rights-refuse-them-access#:~:text=They%20have%20NO%20power%20to,by%20way%20of%20private%20prosecution.

I really would ring 101 and ask for their advice on the person entering your property and malicious calls. Then you will have your own correct info and possibly crime number.

SnarkyBag · 18/04/2021 08:14

Time to visit your local taxidermist a purchase a variety of stuffed animals in a variety of supines poses. Leave on window ledge until next visit and you can legitimately say yes there is a dead animal on my window ledge but you’ll have to bring the police if you want to seize it.
I would then post all this folly for people to follow on your local Facebook community page so everyone can see the ridiculousness of the person reporting you.

JocastaNu · 18/04/2021 08:22

The RSPCA are awful. I'm not sure they actually do anything remotely helpful for animals. Can't believe people still donate to them.

Whereisthewarmth · 18/04/2021 08:29

Just get cameras up op

Ring door bell also, and cameras very cheap and easy to install
...

Agree with other pp, we had an abandoned cat next to us, owners left UK.. Rspca not interested at all?

Whereisthewarmth · 18/04/2021 08:32

It's not immature to get a camera at all, millions of people have cameras at their property to protect it
Op needs that right now.
And she needs to know who it is and what they are taking photos of too

Whereisthewarmth · 18/04/2021 08:37

Set up a hide 😂😂😂, mirror film or general window film is also a good idea..

I0NA · 18/04/2021 08:41

I see that one way mirror film has been suggested several times. It’s cheap and easy to apply and it won’t stop your dog seeing out.
