To not put a tv in an Airbnb?

PutTheCakeDOWN · 16/04/2021 14:34

Pondering going find the Airbnb route. There’s no tv in the place we’d do it and it would be a right faff putting one in. I don’t watch loads of tv, and I know lots of people watch on tablets etc anyway.

For context, it’s a couples/single adult space in an area of outstanding natural beauty.

YANBU - tv not needed
YABU - get a tv you cheapskate

People will expect a TV. If you don't want to put one in, you should state that very clearly throughout your advert and be prepared that many people will look elsewhere.

Kaptain · 16/04/2021 17:10

Ah yes, I guess so. But as the PP who does AirBnB says, important to be clear about that, and even so some people won't realise.

speakout · 16/04/2021 17:12

No Tv and crap internet.

No thanks.

Whatatodooo1 · 16/04/2021 17:13

Well it's the same as the TV in your own house or on whatever device you are watching Netflix on. In our Airbnb we don't have an aerial or anything, just a TV and in the corner in another part of the room is a little Internet power box. And our place is very rustic, all Woodburner and cast iron bath vibe with beautiful big plants and a very subtle TV and fast Internet.

Sounds idyllic.
At home I rarely have time to watch much tv.
On holiday I want to relax and watch stuff.

So what does your tv aerial bit plug into!? How does the tv get a picture on it if there’s no aerial??

I'll be honest OP, you don't seem like a people person? Maybe AirBnB isn't for you? You're already criticising people who might want to watch "The Bill", and discounting people's answers...

ancientgran · 16/04/2021 17:20

Are you hoping to make money? If you are you need to look at this as a business. If punters want TV supply a TV. This isn't about your personal preferences and it shouldn't be about judging your customers.

Quite a bizarre attitude for someone hoping to suceed in hospitality.
Customer facing skills seems a bit a of black hole for you.

BrilliantBetty · 16/04/2021 17:21

It wouldn't be for me.
I need internet. TV not so important.

Good luck with it, OP.

ancientgran · 16/04/2021 17:22

The issue is that if you're married to my DH, it WILL go on, like it or not. If there isn't one, or only DVDs, we will be forced to agree on movies and he will not be tempted to 'zone out'. God forbid that people should zone out when they are on holiday.

Basil Fawlty?
Alsohuman · 16/04/2021 17:22

@sunflowersandbuttercups

It’s quite a remote area, popular for walking and it’s lakeside so very picturesque. I think it would be a shame to sit in and watch The Bill but horses got courses!

What about days when it's pissing with rain?

And when it’s dark.

On mumsnet eeeeeveryone is allowed to be super rude to the OP, but one slightly snippy reply back and it’s like you’re the worst person EVER Grin

It’s one of the things I find endlessly amusing here. Never stop!

sunflowersandbuttercups · 16/04/2021 17:24

Hospitality is about making people happy, not judging them Hmm

notacooldad · 16/04/2021 17:25

It’s a self contained building with no aerial do we’d have to drill through the exterior wall etc
And?
Its a one off job 😂😂

TheThingsWeAdmitOnMN · 16/04/2021 17:25

@PutTheCakeDOWN

No the internet is shit.

Not the responses I was hoping for 😂😂 thank you though, very helpful!

I could always try it and see if people mention it...? As long as it’s super clear on the description?

How much can you walk/admire the scenery at 10 pm at night?
ancientgran · 16/04/2021 17:26

I think lots of us find it endlessly amusing when people ask for opinions and then do what they wanted to do in the first place regardless.

TheThingsWeAdmitOnMN · 16/04/2021 17:27

@Whatatodooo1

You sound lovely & your place sounds gorgeous & the Jack of judgement....

I know where I'd be booking.

ChippyDucks150 · 16/04/2021 17:30

Yes, the outstanding natural beauty is fab, but in the pitch black of night when you've spent all day outdoors. Hot bath/ shower, snuggle in with a bottle of wine and watch the TV. I wouldn't book if there wasn't one.

PuppyMonkey · 16/04/2021 17:30

The Bill hasn’t been on telly since 2010.Grin

MadeOfStarStuff · 16/04/2021 17:33

YANBU but do make it very clear in the listing.

If you find you don’t get bookings then consider putting one in.

Bluntness100 · 16/04/2021 17:33

I think you need a tv,I don’t get the snobbish responses about sitting watching the bill. My husband likes to watch the news in the morning and the evening, so a tv would be great, we wouldn’t sit and huddle round a lap top.
