To not put a tv in an Airbnb?

PutTheCakeDOWN · 16/04/2021 14:34

Pondering going find the Airbnb route. There’s no tv in the place we’d do it and it would be a right faff putting one in. I don’t watch loads of tv, and I know lots of people watch on tablets etc anyway.

For context, it’s a couples/single adult space in an area of outstanding natural beauty.

YANBU - tv not needed
YABU - get a tv you cheapskate

Thanks ppl! unfortunately we are in a strict lockdown now here so there's tumbleweed blowing through our place! Me and my dh want to take it in turns to go on holidays out in it but then we'd also have to be the ones to clean it.....
Op its just a TV drilled into the wall and we don't have any channels so no aerial so its like a computer really with Netflix and YouTube / Internet .

OP if you choose to work in hospitality- or related industries then you need to knit yourself a hard hat of diplomacy.
Your responses on this thread suggest that this may be a skill area to be developed.

@MadeOfStarStuff

YANBU but do make it very clear in the listing.

If you find you don’t get bookings then consider putting one in.

Eminently sensible and practical! I totally agree, and this is what I’ll be doing :)

Does it have WiFi? If so, just get a smart TV - no need for aerials etc. If it doesn't have WiFi then that's a much bigger problem in itself.

I thought then, goodness how many people are telling me the same thing!

Then I realised it was just you, over several posts. Please continue!

You may be relieved to hear however, that I’m NOT planning a career in hospitality

What do you think running an air B&B is, if not hospitality?

Kaptain · 16/04/2021 17:37

And me. Your attitude could do with a little adjustment, imo.

Hardbackwriter · 16/04/2021 17:37

The issue is that if you're married to my DH, it WILL go on, like it or not. If there isn't one, or only DVDs, we will be forced to agree on movies and he will not be tempted to 'zone out'.

Well I'm not married to your DH... And tbh I think it's a bit horrible (and controlling) to deliberately book somewhere without a facility that he clearly wants to use because you don't want him to.

speakout · 16/04/2021 17:37

Pondering going find the Airbnb route.

So that's not hospitality?

theleafandnotthetree · 16/04/2021 17:37

@SarsonsWine

I don't go on holiday to watch tv so I wouldn't want a tv. I only book accommodation with stunning views out of the window and watch the view instead of tv.
Are you being serious?

Well OP doesn't seem very hospitable, so goodness knows Grin

Why are you so against having a tv when you can get someone to fit it and it will make the stay a but more comfortable especially if the weather is bad? Those that don't want to watch it don't have to,its not compulsory too!
Bizzare!

sbhydrogen · 16/04/2021 17:39

I don't mind if I go to an Airbnb without a TV to be honest.

londonscalling · 16/04/2021 17:40

I watch tv whilst waiting for my husband to get ready. I also watch it if we have to come back to the room before I'm ready to sleep. I'd definitely want a TV!

LimaFoxtrotCharlie · 16/04/2021 17:40

@ninja

Why not put in a monitor and adapters for people to use as a screen from their own devices?

Most people don't watch live TV anyway

I only watch live TV
speakout · 16/04/2021 17:41

OP I would rethink.
I would hate to think how you would deal with a complaint.

KarenMarlow3 · 16/04/2021 17:41

You will be competing with other properties. Most of them will be equipped with a TV. If you don't have one, then many people will book elsewhere, or else, if they didn't realize there was no TV, you risk poor reviews. There's no point in starting a business with a can't be bothered attitude.

UseOfWeapons · 16/04/2021 17:41

I wouldn’t book. As a solo traveller, it sounds grim. I read a lot, and don’t watch a lot of TV, but I wouldn’t book somewhere without one, especially one with poor internet, and no knowledge of mobile connectivity.
I booked one that said it had TV and internet, not far from my sister, whom I was visiting, but was unable to stay with her.. The TV was poor, the mobile service rubbish, and the internet connection only occurred once in 4 days. I couldn’t contact my sister,,couldn’t email her...and couldn’t watch TV to take my mind off it.
Yes, I was hiking most of the day, but in the evening, I’d go back to my AirBnB and sit, struggling to read in crappy energy-saving bulb lighting! Never again, I work hard, I want something more relaxing to end my day.

wesowereonabreak · 16/04/2021 17:42

you should put that on your website and letterhead 😂

Sounds like a fascinating holiday Grin

I already said almost exactly that and OP didn’t take the blindest bit of notice. 🤷🏼‍♀️

She’s chosen to listen the very small minority of posters who don’t do this for a living.

Anyway, I’m off. Good luck OP, you’re going to need it.

notacooldad · 16/04/2021 17:47

To be fair I don't think anyone does!

PutTheCakeDOWN · 16/04/2021 17:50

No, not planning a career in hospitality!

I have a small self contained accommodation which friends usually stay in. I’m considering putting it on Airbnb. If we get bookings, great. If not - no problem!

I won’t be having a website or letterheads.

I think you’re all getting a bit carried away 😂

OP posts:
Thefamilybusiness · 16/04/2021 17:51

Wouldn't put me off, particularly as its aimed at adults, as long as I was aware when I booked.
I don't watch much TV, I'd appreciate a radio though.
