How many times do you wear a bra before washing?

AIBU - to wear once only? It’s costing me a fortune in underwear as they wear out/ grey quickly

Every couple of weeks. I'm not a naturally sweaty person

Joeblack066 · 15/04/2021 14:11

@Gobbeldegook

Daily but I wear sports bras. I hand wash nice bras, also after each use. Cheap bras I just chuck in the washer (also daily) with the rest of the clothes and when the wire wears through I pull it out.

Hygiene is important.
Don't be a scruff.

Manners are important. Don’t be rude.

How many of you daily washers are thinking about your effect on the environment? This mad crazy washing of everything all the time exacerbates skin conditions, and wastes so much energy and resources. In my opinion. But I won’t be rude about you if that’s your choice.

Enko · 15/04/2021 14:23

Once but I also handwash all my bras so they don't wear out that fast.

Enko · 15/04/2021 14:26

I have about 20 bras I wash when my small bra bin is full so I would argue I use less water than most of the non daily washers do who places them in the washing machine.

Askingforfriend · 15/04/2021 14:33

I rarely have BO and don't sweat a lot unless exercising, so my bras get less dirty than, say, a shirt would. I can wear them several times (I alternate) before they need washing.

Its funny how people are obsessed about this, but the inside of their shoes are probably a million times more gross.

Askingforfriend · 15/04/2021 14:34

...apparently sweat glands are more concentrated on the feet than anywhere else on the body.

BertramLacey · 15/04/2021 14:38

How so? Mine go in the machine when I've got a full load. I don't just think 'oh, all 3 of my bras are dirty, I will now do a machine load just for them'.

DontBeRidiculous · 15/04/2021 14:43

Enjoying a good chuckle at the idea that bras, as "underwear" get significantly dirtier than the top you wear over them. You know, the piece of clothing that actually touches your armpits and gets things spilled on and rubbed against it.

I wear them at least a few times between washes, letting them air out on off-days. Unless I've been sweating profusely in them, that seems to be fine. Washing too often wears them out more quickly, and I have enough laundry to wash as it is.

LakieLady · 15/04/2021 14:48

@Frickssake

Once or twice then wash in shower/ bath
This is genius.

Now that Debenhams has gone, I'm going to have to start paying silly money for my 36GG bras and have been contemplating handwashing them to make them last longer.

I'm going to throw mine in the shower tomorrow, and see if it smells sufficiently fresh afterwards.

Becstar90 · 15/04/2021 14:48

Depends on the weather. If it's hot I'll only wear it once

Ponoka7 · 15/04/2021 14:50

Mine is a maximum of four days. I buy Primark bras and they last well enough, even we when I'm washing them daily over summer. I suppose it depends on what your doing. I changed into PJ's in the house and take off my bra. I walk a lot and run round after toddler+ grandchildren. The weather's variable, so sometimes I sweat.

Ponoka7 · 15/04/2021 14:52

@DontBeRidiculous, if you're over a certain cupsize then your bra tucks under your boobs. Any skin folds get sweaty and don't smell fresh.

ClarasZoo · 15/04/2021 15:01

I reckon 500 years ago it was probably once a year wasn’t it?! Funny, really, how things change. Do you think in 500 years time they will be aghast we breathed unfiltered air or similar?

thisgardenlife · 15/04/2021 15:02

I can't believe any of the posts on this thread. Surely you don't actually re-use bras?

All my bras are disposable (made from hand-spun recycled organic bamboo), worn once and only once before composting.

dotdashdashdash · 15/04/2021 15:06

If it's a sports bra and I'm exercising in it, then once. But a normal bra, it'll be a few wears depending on what I'm doing.

But I only have 2 day time bras and one sports bra! I really need to go bra shopping.

RickiTarr · 15/04/2021 15:08

Once. They literally sit under your arms, absorbing sweat.

Don’t buy white bras, if you don’t want they grey issue. Buy coloured, black or nude. Wash on delicates cycle in a net bag with a colour catcher.

SeaTurtles92 · 15/04/2021 15:09

I get more than one wear out of them! I don't actually wear it for long. As soon as I get in, the bra comes off.

I only wear a bra if I really must.

ginghamtablecloths · 15/04/2021 15:12

Fresh underwear every single day. They last a bit longer in a laundernet bag, some of my bras are much older than the suggested six months and I guess I'm not unusual.

@ILoveAllRainbowsx

Once because the parts near my arm pits get sweaty.

I really envy people whose bras don't get sweaty after they have been worn all day. I cannot understand how someone doesn't sweat.

When I work from home, I wear the same thing every day and I only wash my trousers and sweatshirt every 2 weeks because they don't get sweaty.

Have a look at perspirex. Stings like fuck for the first couple of uses but it's BRILLIANT
GoneCrazy · 15/04/2021 15:19

I alternate 3 a week so prob a couple of days but with home working I don’t always wear a bra all day so might be wearing one bra for about 6 hours a day

countrygirl99 · 15/04/2021 15:23

6 month? That is positively juvenile compared to mine. Why would they only last that long?
Oblomov21 · 15/04/2021 15:29

At least a week.

ginghamtablecloths · 15/04/2021 15:44

I am quoting M&S, countrygirl99 who (obviously in the business of trying to fool us into buying them more often) came out with this ridiculous idea. If they relied on people like me they would have gone out of business a very long time ago. I've even been known to mend them if necessary.

dotdashdashdash · 15/04/2021 15:47

Mine don't. There's a good 3 or so inches of skin between my bra and my armpit. Plus my arm pits don't sweat much, none of me sweats much.
