How many times do you wear a bra before washing?

AIBU - to wear once only? It’s costing me a fortune in underwear as they wear out/ grey quickly

I have many bras. Possibly more than shoes. I tend to rotate depending on clothes I'm wearing. My nude and black bras get a fair bit of wear, with red and blue a close second. No white bras. I tend to wash a colour batch at a time. I wear a bra, let it air, put away. I wear a different one every day.

Persephone70 · 16/04/2021 18:32

Non-work bras, probably 2-3 wears and then it goes in the wash (because I think it is the done thing). My ‘work’ bras are washed after every wear, but then for the past year I have been working solely with Covid patients, so the scrubs get washed by the trust, and all my underwear gets the hot was treatment (hence my work underwear is now looking very 😞).

SunshineCake · 16/04/2021 18:33

Once.

Can't imagine wearing it more than that. No more than I'd wear socks, pants or tops more than once.

Persephone70 · 16/04/2021 18:33

I meant hot ‘wash’ not hot ‘was’!

caspersmagicaljourney · 16/04/2021 18:40

Only once - always.
Especially since embarking on the menopause. Eek🙄

AnnieSnap · 16/04/2021 18:40

@ShirleyPhallus

I take it off after an hour or so and bleach / boil wash at 90 degrees. Anything else is discusting tbh
LOL! Grin Grin Grin

@GalleryGirl

Up to 2 weeks if I'm going to be brutally honest. Finding bras that fit is a nightmare so I only have 2 and our house currently has no heating so laundry takes 3+ days to dry. That and they just don't get that dirty.
Have you heard of Boob or Bust if you haven't give them a try. You might be surprised what size you really are and find them a lot easier (or in my case harder as my bra size is non existent to find at any retailer, I am having to look at custom made bras as I'm currently measuring at 36O)
JeanClaudeVanDammit · 16/04/2021 18:48

3 or 4 days on average I think. Maybe less in winter, more in summer. Not every day. Yes they are underwear but it’s not like knickers.

RampantIvy · 16/04/2021 18:55

It might surprise you to know that some of us don't have huge, sweaty boobs, bras that are nowhere near our armpits, or are able to cope with temperatures in double figures without sweating.

We are all different.

Anitarest · 16/04/2021 18:57

2-3 days, except in hot sweaty weather.
I always use a nose-check when I take it off.
When working in Papua New Guinea, more than once a day, to avoid sweat rashes.

SunshineCake · 16/04/2021 19:03
Hmm
PinkTonic · 16/04/2021 19:04

Once. They literally sit under your arms, absorbing sweat.

Your bra doesn’t fit you properly if it literally sits under your arms.

RampantIvy · 16/04/2021 19:05

The nose check is a good idea @Anitarest.

Anoisagusaris · 16/04/2021 19:06

My bras (which are pretty substantial as I’m big boobed, overweight and like sturdy support) go nowhere near my armpits.

waitingpatientlyforspring · 16/04/2021 19:08

I've no idea as tend to alternate bras so they get an air out. A good week I think. Exercise bras get washed each time.

chicken12 · 16/04/2021 19:11

that a joke would destroy my bras in a week

Rosehassometoes · 16/04/2021 19:13

About once a week- think should really swap every 3 days Blush

Jolie12345 · 16/04/2021 19:45

Ages! Wash when they smell or look dirty

Slipperfairy · 16/04/2021 19:46

I thought you couldn't wear the same bra two days running because it loses its shape.

Slipperfairy · 16/04/2021 19:48

And if a bra fits properly, it won't be near your armpits, like pp have said. Unless you have amazingly high boobs.

BagLadyy · 16/04/2021 19:53

Depends on the day/weather/activity/which bra it is.

Sniff test is the decider.

Sometimes it's once (sweaty or if it smells of cooking etc) sometimes might be 4-5 times.

Ah..slyly going 10 degrees below boiling point, I see. Your bra must be CRAWLING

RampantIvy · 16/04/2021 19:59

That has never happened to me in the approximately 50 years I have been wearing them.
Luckyelephant1 · 16/04/2021 20:03

If I'm out and about then 2 days. If home for days on end then 4-5 days. Any bra worn for sweaty exercise goes straight in the wash after.

But I don't sweat much, have tiny boobs and I don't wear traditional bras with underwire or whatever, generally I live in sports bras or crop top/bralette style bras, no padding. I can understand why big boobed women may change theirs every 1 to 2 days.

angela99999 · 16/04/2021 20:21

@Angrypregnantlady

A good few days, maybe even a week, I don't have a set rule, just see if it needs washing. Unless you're a very sweaty person then no clothes (bar knickers) need washing after every wear, it's just a waste of water, energy, and clothing.
Me too @angrypregnantlady unless the weather is really hot and I'm sweaty and smelly.
