How many times do you wear a bra before washing?

AIBU - to wear once only? It’s costing me a fortune in underwear as they wear out/ grey quickly

Once. You sweat under your boob area.

berryfull · 15/04/2021 23:27

When it needs washing or smells!

alwayslearningsomethingnew · 15/04/2021 23:29

Every 30 minutes

Ringsender2 · 15/04/2021 23:41

@OverTheRainbow88

Oh my this thread has made me feel like an unhygienic minger
Well, you know whose standards you need to emulate! (Pssst @ShirleyPhallus Wink)

@silverbubbles

Always more than 1 week. Frequent washing knackers them out and is uneccessary and not good for environment.

I wash with soap everyday so I am clean enough.

I don't wear white bras on a daily basis for this specific reason.

If you can't wear a white bra because it gets visibly dirty, that tells you something! A different coloured bra gets just as dirty!
TheThingsWeAdmitOnMN · 15/04/2021 23:48

@lovevlyt

After a couple weeks 😬 it doesn't sit directly under armpits so don't see it gets dirty in the same way knickers or socks do
No, but it is snug under your boobs, feel the heat under there!

I rarely sweat & can happily go without deodorant, but I only wear a bra once before washing it because it gets hot under your boobs.

TheThingsWeAdmitOnMN · 15/04/2021 23:57

How many of you daily washers are thinking about your effect on the environment? This mad crazy washing of everything all the time exacerbates skin conditions, and wastes so much energy and resources. In my opinion. But I won’t be rude about you if that’s your choice

How on earth does me adding a couple of bras to a wash destroy the environment??

My skin is fine thank you, because I don't rewear my underwear before it's been washed.

Sorka · 16/04/2021 00:00

Once. It’s right by your skin so needs a wash after every wear IMO

RampantIvy · 16/04/2021 00:05

It seems that some women are much more sweaty than others and don't seem to comprehend that we don't all have sweaty boobs, or simply don't sweat a lot. Right now temperatures where I live are struggling to get into double figures, so activities like walking and gardening just don't raise a sweat at all.

@takealettermsjones

What is this bra washing you speak of?

AIBU - to wear once only?

Yes. VVU.

How on earth does me adding a couple of bras to a wash destroy the environment??

Think of all the millions and millions of people who do unnecessary washing, and of how much extra energy and water that takes. That's how it destroys the environment.

Divebar2021 · 16/04/2021 00:50

I think generally we wash our clothes too much - there is a culture of it because it doesn’t require much effort on our part. We teach our children they need to do the same and we come on SM and tell people they’re “grim” because they don’t do the same. Other people then decide they should probably wash their towels / bras / insert as appropriate after every use or risk being judged. So don’t think that “ what difference do I make “? Because it all starts to add up.

PandemicPalava · 16/04/2021 00:52

2-3 times unless really sweaty

sykadelic · 16/04/2021 02:15

I'd say it depends on size (body and breast).

I have 1 bra and even then it doesn't fit correctly because my bra size doesn't exist (appt for a breast reduction scheduled!!). Therefore, i can go a LONG time between washes. It depends on smell, type of weather etc etc.

I'm a 36/38 in the back. I'm hoping to go down to a D/DD and then I'll be able to wear cute bras in multiple colors... oh the joy!

Bras should be handwashed to last longer so you could, in theory, do a hand wash every night and hang to dry. They dry really quick! I have a kid and I'm #lazy so in an ideal world I'll own 7 down the line. I'm super excited!!

Tallybo · 16/04/2021 02:25

Everyday in the summer due to sweaty boobs. Less often in winter honestly, every few days maybe? Sports bra after every wear.

Justa47 · 16/04/2021 02:31

@Howtomakeevery1

Funny I was thinking about this yesterday.
Two days for me!

OhSayWhat · 16/04/2021 02:39

Once but I don’t wear fancy or expensive bras and I don’t have problems getting sizing right (any old A cup will do!) and so I have plenty and they all just go in with everything else.

If I had less bras or nice ones that required special washing requirements then I think I’d be wearing 3-4 times unless sweaty.

YouAreTheWordsIAmTheTune · 16/04/2021 02:44

I wait for the mushrooms to grow then I take it off, harvest the mushrooms for the spaghetti bolognese and then pop it back on for the cheese. Then I wash it and start again

PerveenMistry · 16/04/2021 02:44

@Lowkeyloopy

Some of these responses have blown my mind! I HATE washing bras because I follow the "rule" about never machine washing underwired bras or they change their shape/ the wire comes out. Otherwise I'd be buying new ones on the regular and they're flipping expensive.

So I wait as loooong as I possibly can before washing them I'm afraid. I don't smell, neither do my bras, and I don't understand the comments about bras being underwear - yes from time to time you might be standing on a crowded train in July, feeling the sweat pooling around the strap on your mid-back, thinking "Damn, that's another one for the hand-washing pile", but outside of situations like that, what are you worried about?

Also the impact of all this washing on the environment makes me despair.

If you are one of the women merrily hand-washing their bras on a daily basis, please, please get in touch and I'll find you some odd jobs to fill the time you clearly have too much of!

I've read so many MN posts from women talking about how over-busy and stressed they are - DHs, DCs and work absorbing every ounce of energy they have...

Ladies, do yourselves a favour - step away from the bras..!

Don't they get all stretched out, wearing them day after day?
maddiemookins16mum · 16/04/2021 05:52

Are the people wearing a bra for days on end also wearing the same t shirt for the same time?

Every day here, rank not to change it imho.

StarlightLady · 16/04/2021 05:55

As for those referring to environmental damage: As l wash mine after one wear in a delicates bag with my regular washing loads, it does not use more power, nor more water, nor more detergent.

And for me, a daily clean bra feels better.

firstimemamma · 16/04/2021 05:59

2-3 times. I'd only do it after one wear if it was a boiling hot day and I'd sweated loads.

Cissyandflora · 16/04/2021 06:02

Probably a week for me too. I’ve only got one at the moment but don’t wear it always.

torquewench · 16/04/2021 06:13

I know Ive definitely done 3 of mine at least once this year, maybe twice 🤔

springblossom2 · 16/04/2021 06:26

Hygiene is important.Don't be a scruff.

I'm a 'scruff' and will wear the same bra for at least 4 days before washing it.

I haven't come to any harm in my 56 years on the planet. And I don't smell. I do change knickers and socks daily - which is a different matter. Maybe I'm lucky not to have giant sweaty boobs Grin
