I only poo once a week. Please help me go more often

I should be going more often. A typical days diet involves - no breakfast, lunch is a spicy scrambled egg but really more like vegetables binded together with 1 egg ( courgette, mushroom, pepper, spinach and jalapenos) followed by grapes. Dinner is usually a mega salad with chicken, fish, quiche. Small bar of chocolate, another fruit portion and maybe a yogurt. I drink at least 1.5 litres of water daily. Do Hiit training for 20 mins daily.

Yet the only thing that gets me going is having a beer at the weekend and then I think I poo for the whole week, though only once so its uncomfortable and unpleasant.

I have tried a colonic. The lady told me I will be more susceptible to bowel cancer (jeez thanks lady)

I really don't want to become dependant on laxatives but I think I might have to .

Can anyone advise me please?

You're full of shit, OP.

ImFree2doasiwant · 14/04/2021 21:33

@Cheeseandlobster my mum spent years taking all manner of things to help her poop , both shop bought and prescribed. When the first lockdiwn happened, she 2as in another country and ran out. So started eating dried prunes. She hasn't gone back. She has about 4 prunes every day.

Livingonadream · 14/04/2021 21:33

Green tea on an empty stomach is my trick!

StripedLeopard · 14/04/2021 21:34

I definitely recommend prunes. They are not scary at all. I love them. I recently bought 2kg of prunes just because I really like them

Mxflamingnoravera · 14/04/2021 21:35

Exercise, eat healthy, take magnesium and if it's really bad, glycerin suppositories.

userxx · 14/04/2021 21:35

Jacket potato does the trick for me.

Coffee and a cigarette used to do wonders.

Thatsmoneyhoney · 14/04/2021 21:35

Try a hot honey and lemon in the morning. Its great for cleansing your body and kick starts your digestive system. I use the juice of half a lemon and a tea spoon of honey. Does the trick for me. Have you always had these troubles? It might be worth seeing your gp and ask to check if your glands are ok.

OohThatCat · 14/04/2021 21:35

A handful of prunes a day will get you going! If you don't like tinned or juice, dried ones are lovely

ScissorsBike · 14/04/2021 21:36

Coffee

Minniem2020 · 14/04/2021 21:37

This was me. Weetabix every day is what helped me.

ElsasFrozenVerucca · 14/04/2021 21:37

You need some 'roughage' a strong coffee and a walk/run.
Yoga is also good for getting the digestive system moving.
Are you drinking enough water?

GettingItOutThere · 14/04/2021 21:37

fibre, prunes and chocolate!

Lactulose will make you go easier

waterlego · 14/04/2021 21:37

I find i always go to the loo after yoga, particularly sessions with twists.

Yes! Twists are really good for digestive system because they encourage blood flow to digestive organs.

Liquorice often works for me.

PeacefulInTheDeep · 14/04/2021 21:37

I read somewhere that P fruits (prunes, pears, peaches, plums) would help my constipated baby, and they seemed to help. Maybe you need more fibre in your diet?

Alternatively, black coffee always makes me go within about 30 minutes.

WilsonMilson · 14/04/2021 21:37

Unless your portions are massive I don’t think you’re eating enough, you would be better eating breakfast and getting the digestive system going. Not enough carbs in what you’ve said.

A glass of kefir in the morning keeps me regular, as does a morning coffee- caffeine definitely stimulates that ‘feeling’.

I eat porridge most mornings and that’s another thing that keeps me moving.

Activia yogurt makes me go - but makes me REALLY go, so you might want to try that, I had to stop eating it due to explosive effects.

Kiwis are another that are recommended for constipation, but I can’t bear them, they set my teeth on edge for some reason.

Oh, also fizzy vitamin C tablets can help.

Good luck, it’s a horrible feeling when you’re bunged up!

LovingBob · 14/04/2021 21:38

Figs, Tesco do packets of dried figs that are a bit syrupy so not that dry, they work quite well with me as I go infrequently as well though more often than you do and a few figs do the trick

LesserBother · 14/04/2021 21:38

I've only suffered from constipation when on iron tablets and nothing worked (apart from stopping the tablets). All these things that people say are surefire ways to go do nothing for me. I forced down a pint of prune juice and still nada

Wizzbangfizz · 14/04/2021 21:38

Dulcolax pico liquid would move anything

Macaroni46 · 14/04/2021 21:39

I'd lose the egg every day. If I have egg I can't go for days!

Shopaholic100 · 14/04/2021 21:40

Alpen is good to get things moving as are SlimmingWorld Hifi bars if you’re near an Iceland store.

beingajen · 14/04/2021 21:40

Post pregnancy I had a lot of compaction and constipation issues. Immediate relieve can be got by a glycerin suppository (or even half to not go too far) and they can be used long-term and do not hurt like laxatives. Dulcoease and lactulose are short term options. We've also found out from the mums groups that kiwi fruit is a master bowel mover. We now class them as kiwi nappies and they are epic!

Dora26 · 14/04/2021 21:41

Amother vote for flaxseed/linseed - 1tablesp 3 times daily umtil regular. Must drink lots of water to activate it

Time40 · 14/04/2021 21:43

Do Hiit training for 20 mins daily

That's good OP, but is that the only exercise and movement you're doing? Just one person (I think) on this thread has said "move more", and I think at least part of your problem could be that you're not moving enough. Have a good long walk every day, and don't sit still for too long. Get up and move around. Maybe think about varying your exercise routine, so sometimes you replace the Hiit with something else that takes a bit longer to complete. I'm totally convinced that frequent movement is the key to this.

Adreinnesarmy · 14/04/2021 21:43

What about exercise? I often find a jog helps move things along and prevents my bowel becoming sluggish...

Livingonadream · 14/04/2021 21:44

@JudgeJ

I find that shopping at Morrisons has an affect on my system, never really understood why as I'm very 'regular'.
Is it the food or the actual shop in general?!?! Grin
