I only poo once a week. Please help me go more often

I should be going more often. A typical days diet involves - no breakfast, lunch is a spicy scrambled egg but really more like vegetables binded together with 1 egg ( courgette, mushroom, pepper, spinach and jalapenos) followed by grapes. Dinner is usually a mega salad with chicken, fish, quiche. Small bar of chocolate, another fruit portion and maybe a yogurt. I drink at least 1.5 litres of water daily. Do Hiit training for 20 mins daily.

Yet the only thing that gets me going is having a beer at the weekend and then I think I poo for the whole week, though only once so its uncomfortable and unpleasant.

I have tried a colonic. The lady told me I will be more susceptible to bowel cancer (jeez thanks lady)

I really don't want to become dependant on laxatives but I think I might have to .

Can anyone advise me please?

Eggs bung you right up. There is your problem.

Whoopsmahoot · 14/04/2021 21:46

Kiwis or dried apricots (7) 🤣

JustLookingThanks · 14/04/2021 21:46

I second the suggestion of magnesium supplements.
www.healthline.com/health/digestive-health/magnesium-for-citrate-constipation
And prunes!

Also I have a lovely recipe for you to try, from Gousto. Mexican sweet potato flat breads. The sweet potato with skin on is an excellent source of fibre, it always sorts my DCs issues along with a dose of magnesium. Easter Grin
Oven 200° c
400 g sweet potato for 2 people - scrubbed and chopped in to bite sized pieces
Place on baking tray with oil and some spice we use cumin or coriander. Bake 15 mins
Chop up some lettuce, tomatoes and spring onion.
Crumble 100g feta
Put sweet potato when cooked into 4 smaller size flat breads or 2 large at some of the feta and roll up put the rest of the feta on top.
Place on a baking tray and bake in oven for about 8 mins until brown.
Serve with chopped salad and put a mixture of mayonnaise, chipotle paste and a little olive oil over the top to spice it up.
Hope you start feeling a bit better soon OP

I don't have this problem. IBS plus metformin puts paid to that but I do very occasionally have constipation and have been told that chia seeds will sort me out.

LesserBother · 14/04/2021 21:50

I find that shopping at Morrisons has an affect on my system, never really understood why as I'm very 'regular'.

I never tested it when I was suffering from constipation but it's libraries for me normally. Always get me going out of sequence as it were!

Yaya26 · 14/04/2021 21:50

Prune juice

Corncorncorn · 14/04/2021 21:51

Eggs are known to bung people up so maybe try cutting down on those.

tillyandmilly · 14/04/2021 21:51

you are not eating enough! - Hence why you only go once a week - you need to bulk up your protein - but cut out the eggs - they have a binding effect! - I have now gone vegan and I find I go twice a day!

Megasaurus · 14/04/2021 21:53

Bootea. Made me piss out of my arse.

NamechangeApril21 · 14/04/2021 21:54

When I'm low carbing I sprinkle chia seeds on most of my meals to increase my fibre intake, which I find.makes all the difference

hannayeah · 14/04/2021 21:54

Blueberries!

Squiz81 · 14/04/2021 21:55

Definitely agree with the coffee suggestions.

Also try popcorn. Pop your own and just add a bit of salt for flavour. It always works for my ds who doesn’t go very regularly.

AOwlAOwlAOwl · 14/04/2021 21:58

Agree with PP, it's the eggs causing this. Can you substitute it for something else high in protein instead? Chicken maybe, or tofu?

Some good suggestions for resolving it, I think your diet may be lacking a bit in fibre but also fat. Greasy food is certain to make me go to the loo.

ragged · 14/04/2021 21:58

How much minutes of exercise do you get each day especially high impact?

How much caffeine do you consume?

How much fluids do you drink?

chiefbrain · 14/04/2021 22:00

Dried apricots, prunes or dates would help

Sportysporty · 14/04/2021 22:03

A grated carrot salad with a few chia seeds and an ACV /oil dressing every day plus a small apple (soluable fibre) - will bulk your poo up but not blow your carb stack.

GeorgiaGirl52 · 14/04/2021 22:04

KFC original recipe fried chicken thighs. Two of these (eat the whole thing, don't peel off the fried skin) and you will go.

My record for NoGo was 21 days while in the hospital. They gave me bananas, bran, prune juice, and suppositories. Nothing worked until a nurse brought in KFC.

Chewbecca · 14/04/2021 22:06

Bowl of fruit n fibre sorts me out.

Pinkyavocado · 14/04/2021 22:09

I only go maybe twice a week. No constipation though just don’t go often!

Yaya26 · 14/04/2021 22:12

And weetabix. 2 every morning. In the days after csections I would have had difficulty. Unusual for me. The midwife told me to eat 2 weetabix in morning and 2 weetabix in afternoon to kickstart system. She guaranteed results. She was right and in a good way - not a poonami🤣 luckily I like weetabix.

Flaxmeadow · 14/04/2021 22:12

Greens
Kale, spring greens, French beans, runner beans, broad beans, spinach and so on

If you don't like them, they can he chopped up quite small for cooking as well

minipie · 14/04/2021 22:13

Coffee followed by a 10 minute brisk walk.

Magnesium
Dried apricots (or prunes if you don’t hate them like I do)
More walking

Melroses · 14/04/2021 22:14

2 kiwi fruits a day will shift anything Grin

coronafiona · 14/04/2021 22:14

I believe there are two types of fibre: soluble and insoluble. You need more soluble in your diet which is mainly insoluble (vegetable cellulose). Try having oat porridge every day made with about 40/50 grams of oats. If you can add in raisins that would be good too

MizMoonshine · 14/04/2021 22:15

Junk food. Eat something greasy.
