I only poo once a week. Please help me go more often

I should be going more often. A typical days diet involves - no breakfast, lunch is a spicy scrambled egg but really more like vegetables binded together with 1 egg ( courgette, mushroom, pepper, spinach and jalapenos) followed by grapes. Dinner is usually a mega salad with chicken, fish, quiche. Small bar of chocolate, another fruit portion and maybe a yogurt. I drink at least 1.5 litres of water daily. Do Hiit training for 20 mins daily.

Yet the only thing that gets me going is having a beer at the weekend and then I think I poo for the whole week, though only once so its uncomfortable and unpleasant.

I have tried a colonic. The lady told me I will be more susceptible to bowel cancer (jeez thanks lady)

I really don't want to become dependant on laxatives but I think I might have to .

Can anyone advise me please?

When your pregnant , after a c section they give you lactulose liquid you can buy it over counter .

My partner was sceptical and was like what a load of rubbish he only had a bit on his finger and within 40 mins was asking if we had any sudo cream Grin

Failing that a coffee first thing usually does the job X

Can you up your fibre intake? If you can fit in breakfast I would go for weetabix or branflakes with a glass of orange juice

MinnieKat · 14/04/2021 20:47

@Passthecake30

I use the allrecipes uk one. I just don’t add the salt or sultanas. I love them straight out of the oven when they’re warm but I can eat them cold too. They’re just a bit chewier rather than fluffy.

Cheeseandlobster · 14/04/2021 20:47

Powdered vitamin c sorry

Oh yes it could be ibs, have a look at low FODMAP foods

amusedtodeath1 · 14/04/2021 20:48

Figs, oats, Weetabix, seeded bread/seeds. Activia yogurt.

Ilikecheeseontoast · 14/04/2021 20:48

A coffee on an empty stomach or some dried apricots is my medical mother's suggestion when constipation hits! Works wonders.

TheSpottedZebra · 14/04/2021 20:49

You're swerving the questions about carbs - wholegrain specifically!

Ylvamoon · 14/04/2021 20:49

Coffee, porridge and nuts! Plus always go for the whole food / grain choice.
I don't think you have enough fibre in your diet.

AtrociousCircumstance · 14/04/2021 20:49

Powdered vitamin C: Holland and Barrett, anywhere health oriented really.

Cheeseandlobster · 14/04/2021 20:49

I eat eggs everyday. I used to get horrific ibs cramps multiple times a week and it was eggs that sorted it. I hardly ever get the cramps now. Plus I love them. But I have suspected for a while they may not be helping. Stuck between a rock and a hard place Confused

Dulcoease for a week to get things moving.
Then add fibre- I'd have the scrambled egg on wholemeal toast for an easy add.

Stompythedinosaur · 14/04/2021 20:49

Drink a lot more water, ideally more than 3 litres a day.

Mellonsprite · 14/04/2021 20:50

I think you need more fibre; so apples, oranges, whole grains, oats, maybe cauliflower & broccoli too? Things like chick peas and nuts make me go too. Also pure orange or prune juice (nuclear option).

meadowbreeze · 14/04/2021 20:50

Does your stomach hurt or do you have any side effects of this? I only say this as my sister is like this. She has only ever pooed once per week, even as a baby. My parents took her from Dr to Dr and they just said it's rare but some people are just like that. She only does one (really stinky) poo once a week. It's very strange but she's completely fine! Obv if you're in pain than that's another story.

DianaT1969 · 14/04/2021 20:50

Celeriac - low carb and it will have you running to the bathroom.

AtrociousCircumstance · 14/04/2021 20:51

The lunch sounds delicious by the way. Do you stir fry the veg first and then scramble them in the egg? Do you add and herbs?

hugocat · 14/04/2021 20:51

Same problem. Dates, lentils, spinach

I said above about low carbing. I weigh 11 stone 8 and am 5 ft 6. I am desperate to lose a bit of weight as I hold it all on my tummy. Wholegrains - I probably need help with them. I welcome suggestions Smile

I was the same as you until a friend told me about Holland and barrats aloe Vera colon cleanse. Two tablets before bed every night keeps you very regular no more bunged up feeling. They are all herbal too

WildfirePonie · 14/04/2021 20:51

Dried banana slices. You will poop a few times the next morning after a coffee Grin

soughsigh · 14/04/2021 20:53

Dried apricots can do a similar job to prunes but are much more paletable. Weetabix or other fibre will help. While veg does contain fibre, I find it doesn't make me poop.

The nhs recommends 30g fibre a day, have you tried plugging what you're eating into my fitness pal or similar to see what you're eating?

www.nhs.uk/live-well/eat-well/how-to-get-more-fibre-into-your-diet/

I find that eating a greasy kebab makes me go, but I don't think that fits into your dietry goals 😂

LakieLady · 14/04/2021 20:53

A banana last thing at night, with a glass of water, is guaranteed to get me going the following morning. As is a couple of pints of real ale.

Black coffee and a cigarette in the morning works as well.

OolieMacdoolie · 14/04/2021 20:53

Coffee? Prunes?

Giantrooster · 14/04/2021 20:53

You need a lot more fibers. Oats or oatmeal are a good source every day. Lots of liquid, fibers, exercise and prebiotics is the general advice.

You can take a lot of supplements, but getting it via food is doable.
