I only poo once a week. Please help me go more often

I should be going more often. A typical days diet involves - no breakfast, lunch is a spicy scrambled egg but really more like vegetables binded together with 1 egg ( courgette, mushroom, pepper, spinach and jalapenos) followed by grapes. Dinner is usually a mega salad with chicken, fish, quiche. Small bar of chocolate, another fruit portion and maybe a yogurt. I drink at least 1.5 litres of water daily. Do Hiit training for 20 mins daily.

Yet the only thing that gets me going is having a beer at the weekend and then I think I poo for the whole week, though only once so its uncomfortable and unpleasant.

I have tried a colonic. The lady told me I will be more susceptible to bowel cancer (jeez thanks lady)

I really don't want to become dependant on laxatives but I think I might have to .

Can anyone advise me please?

Like pp above, had a small mocha from Costa yesterday, very good thing I was home an hour later! I've never experienced that before, but googling, it seems to be common. It's drinking the stronger coffeeI think.
Otherwise, porridge?

Bakeachocolatecake2day · 14/04/2021 21:22

@Cheeseandlobster

I eat eggs everyday. I used to get horrific ibs cramps multiple times a week and it was eggs that sorted it. I hardly ever get the cramps now. Plus I love them. But I have suspected for a while they may not be helping. Stuck between a rock and a hard place Confused
Eggs make my DS horribly constipated, he was having 2 eggs every morning for quite a while....

Eggs are very binding for some people.... if he's eating eggs, then he also has to have movicol.

You don’t seem to eat enough to poop. Eat some carbs and fruit for fibre. My bf has just been in hospital with a blocked bowel due to a high protein / low carb diet

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 14/04/2021 21:23

If you are adding ground flaxseeds then make sure you are drinking plenty of liquid too. How much water do you drink?

Eyevorbig0ne · 14/04/2021 21:23

Move about more.
Try tea, liquorice, malt loaf, orange juice, veg, fruit, wholewheat pasta.

HumphreyCobblers · 14/04/2021 21:23

If you want to keep your carb intake low then eat a lot more veg, cut out the eggs every day and take psyllium husk capsules with lots of water - won’t take you out of ketosis. Take about six with at least two big glasses of water.

Plums and prunes. Plums helped me after a laparoscopy operation.

As an alternative to dietary changes, i find i always go to the loo after yoga, particularly sessions with twists.

Will look for some...

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 14/04/2021 21:24

Eat loads of kiwis OP.

megletthesecond · 14/04/2021 21:25

Your diet isn't that great. You need something like porridge or granola for breakfast.

SuperCaliFragalistic · 14/04/2021 21:25

When my DC are constipated pears seem to sort them out.

Do you have pain? Is it uncomfortable? Maybe this is normal for you.

BurbageBrook · 14/04/2021 21:25

I think eating breakfast will help you. I always go after a fibre rich breakfast and a large coffee. Both get everything going Blush I think eating less often will mean your digestive system works more slowly maybe. Also I find steamed vegetables such as broccoli, beans etc much better than salad for fibre.

OnWednesdaysWeWearMink · 14/04/2021 21:26

Get Bioglan Inulin Powder from Holland & Barret. It’s a fibre powder. You just add a spoonful to a glass of water or your food, works really well.

ScrambledSmegs · 14/04/2021 21:26

It's not a great idea to cut out entire food groups if you're not allergic to them. Speak to your GP before you do something like that. Also, eggs act like glue on your bowels. 16:8 should be effective without low carbing.

Kimchi or sauerkraut will help your gut get back to normal when you reintroduce those foods. Either that or take probiotics because your gut sounds like it's become sluggish.

Snowpaw · 14/04/2021 21:27

It sounds quite low in fat your diet. I’ve definitely found that it’s fat not fibre that keeps me regular. I used to make a dessert when I was briefly in a low-carb phase of life that was cashew-butter mixed with whipped cream and grated chocolate. Just a small portion of it, it was so rich but it really kept things moving!

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 14/04/2021 21:28

That's not a lot of food to be honest. Some fibre like shreddies makes me go, but a coffee every morning keeps me regular.

jamaisjedors · 14/04/2021 21:29

Look for yoga for digestion.

I find any yoga good, probably because when you do the relaxation your stomach starts digesting as you relax.

Happyhome21 · 14/04/2021 21:29

Your body made need complex carbs and more food to move your system.

Look at ideas from whole food plant based u tube channels for ideas - Happy Pear are good with every day ingredients.

As well as the complex carbs with beans, sweet potatoes, etc - lentils, chickpeas, prunes, apples, apricots, cabbage should get you moving.

Good luck

LouLou789 · 14/04/2021 21:30

You are eating very little, you could eat loads more without putting on weight. Fruit for brekky? Porridge? Try hot water with lemon juice in it first thing, and a daily magnesium tablet.

Fybogel is good, but tends to make your poo softer more than being a laxative.

Wilkolampshade · 14/04/2021 21:31

Low carb's a fucker for this. And as others have said, you're just not eating enough bulk for your body to regularly elimate. So fibre fibre fibre. I know low carbing you get wary of pulses and more carby veg like peppers or onions but put some in too. Also ground psyllium husk.
Failing that, coffee and cigarettes. (JOKE!)

Landofthefree · 14/04/2021 21:31

Try weetabix or muesli with a few prunes for breakfast. You are also lacking calcium in your diet so skimmed milk on your cereal will help a bit. Don’t eat eggs every day for lunch as that won’t be helping.

TheNestedIf · 14/04/2021 21:31

Raw scotch bonnet. It'll hurt but it'll be effective within the hour and your digestive system won't dare to misbehave itself again for at least a month or so I found.

Witchone1 · 14/04/2021 21:31

Just a handful of overnight soaked raisins, taken first thing in empty stomach works very well for daily movement. Eat breakfast an hr later. Works better than prune.

Wineiscooling · 14/04/2021 21:32

Morning coffee here! As soon as I have that coffee (sometimes two) I go. If I don't have morning coffee, no morning poo!

SoftSheen · 14/04/2021 21:32

Your diet is lacking in wholegrains and fibre. Try porridge or weetabix for breakfast, with some dried fruit and a strong coffee.
