AIBU to ask if you wear pyjamas / equivalent?

Just having a group chat on messenger and one member has said they don't understand why people sleep naked.

I'm not entirely sure therefore, what is the "norm"? Do more people sleep with pyjamas / equivalent on, than without? I obviously understand that it is down to personal choice.

AIBU to ask if you sleep with or without sleepwear? Genuinely interested - this isn't some weird fetish.

Nightie - various warmths depending on time of year. Our house gets cold at night, so never naked! I don't find that comfortable anyway and pyjamas get all twisted in the legs so not very comfy either!

ItsAllBlahBlahBlah · 12/04/2021 13:16

I'm suprised how many people sleep completely starkers! I thought most people wore pants atleast. I wear full Pjs. My DH would have a heart attack if I got into bed naked every night. And we can't afford a dc 3 😂😂😂

MahMahMahMahCorona · 12/04/2021 13:18

Thank you all so much for all your replies!

I agree with you @pepsicolagirl, @sideboobissues, @Shodan and @8lue8ird - I struggle with things getting twisted / being too tight at night.

For those of you who are worried about psycho killers (@LeviAckerman) / the roof blowing off during the night (@takingmytimeonmyride) / House fire (@PattyPan & @Bomchiccawick) - I totally understand your reasoning, however how often has this happened in your X years of life? I guess risk analysis might mean that the number of nights the roof has blown off whilst you were sleeping vs the number of nights it has not, might be helpful in your decision making? If you put those totally rational thoughts to the side, would you prefer to sleep without clothes on?!

@ShirleyPhallus that's exactly how I sleep - on front with one knee up. Pyjamas just inhibit the awkward position....

@Shezlon totally agree with you about sleeping bags - what monstrosity are they for those of us who are hot in bed?? I also have to totally undo beds with flat sheets and blankets tucked under the mattress. Despite the foot-eating-monster which terrorises my dreams, I have to have half a leg and a foot out from under the covers.

@GRMA 🤣🤣🤣

@wonkylegs i agree about having things too close to my neck - in fact I can't wear day clothes which are too close to my neck (scoop type neck) but I love roll neck sweaters...

@MrsPnut - cashmere bed socks? They sound amazing!!!!

How do u cope with cold shoulders!!! I need pjs on but that could be shorts and a tshirt.
My mates all sleep in those fleece pjs...how ill never know

DioneTheDiabolist · 12/04/2021 13:24

I have been wearing granny nighties since I began having night sweats in my 20s. They are brilliant.

StripedLeopard · 12/04/2021 13:27

Sometimes naked, sometimes not. Depends on how hot it is.

cushioncovers · 12/04/2021 13:28

Just a pair of knickers

Hm2020 · 12/04/2021 13:30

I love pyjamas! I have slept naked in the past but I do love fluffy warm pyjamas in the winter

noblegreenk · 12/04/2021 13:35

I just wear my knickers to bed. In exceptionally cold weather I sometimes wear one of my husbands tshirts. I don't like feeling restricted when I'm trying to sleep and I feel claustrophobic in nightwear.

Washimal · 12/04/2021 13:38

Vest top with big pants or little shorts. Anything more and I get too hot, anything less and I would probably regret it in the event of having to deal with the axe-murderers/burglary/fire/roof getting blown off situations pp have mentioned.

UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme · 12/04/2021 13:41

I'm not sure how people with youngish DC feel comfortable (psychologically) sleeping naked in case a DC yells "I've been sick" or comes in frightened by a nightmare during the night - far more likely than an axe murderer...

I sleep in a vest top and pants at home, add Uniqlo heattech leggings if its cold and add a hush ankle length hoodie and the leggings if the DC need me non urgently before I'm dressed.

I have to do on site on call overnight stays at work during which I can go to bed with one ear open - at work I sleep in Uniqlo heattech leggings, a vest top and either the heattech thermal top or another t shirt, with lounge wear on top and all the windows open in winter, or just lounge wear in summer as I have to be able to attend to emergencies in what I'm wearing.

Aprilshowersandhail · 12/04/2021 13:47

I used to just wear a thong for bed.. Stayed at bil's once and ds slept in the kitchen in a travel cot.. Got up early one morning to see to him and heard a polite cough. Bil was standing behind me drinking a cuppa!!
Blush

SilverOtter · 12/04/2021 13:47

I prefer nighties, or sometimes just a big t-shirt

PattyPan · 12/04/2021 13:48

@MahMahMahMahCorona fortunately no house fires as yet (touch wood) but I have had to leap out of bed and open the door to the postie/parcel delivery person in my pjs on an embarrassing number of occasions!

MenoMom · 12/04/2021 13:53

No knickers as, according to my mother, bums need to air at night Smile. I fully accepted this but my daughter has rebelled and wears knickers under pjs, as a act of teenage rebellion.

On top nightdress, tshirt, jumper or nothing depending on weather. Leggings beside the bed in case of quick dressing for fire/lightening strike or more likely dog needing a wee in the night.

Glitterblue · 12/04/2021 13:56

Tshirt and underwear here. We used to both sleep naked pre DC. I can't stand full pj's, they feel so restrictive. I don't know how anyone can sleep in the kind that have a shirt as the top. My dad wears that kind and my mum wears a long nightie down to her feet. I don't know how she sleeps in that, it must tangle up and get wrapped round her!

Notsoaccidentproneanymore · 12/04/2021 13:57

I wear leggings and a mans 1 size too big tshirt.

I summer I wear a vest top and Decathlon yoga shorts.

All of these are v soft cotton and not tight (but also not so big the wrap themselves round you)

I get so hot my legs stick together (yuck) if naked.

Dh sleeps naked. He’s like a furnace, so I have to tuck the duvet between us to shield me from the heat. We currently have a spring/autumn weight wool duvet on and the windows wide open.

In summer I sleep without a duvet.

billy1966 · 12/04/2021 13:58

Naked always.
Feel like I am being strangled with nightwear on.
I have an electric blanket which I love during the winter months.

Letsrunabath · 12/04/2021 13:58

Naked. Although I do take pjs if I’m having a girls weekend away or staying at family, I whip them off as soon as I am under the covers though.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 12/04/2021 14:03

Nightshirt/one of DP's t-shirts mostly, naked if it is very warm. DP always sleeps naked.

I have jogger-type pyjama bottoms that I change into after work and wear with a jumper or t-shirt depending on the time of year, but don't like sleeping in them, they are definitely lounge-wear for me.

NursePye · 12/04/2021 14:03

God you lot must have warm houses!! I'm still in long pjs, electric blanket, wool duvet and wool blanket on top!! Admittedly I am and always have been a very cold person (literally not emotionally Smile) but there is no way I could sleep with nothing on.

I was actually looking forward to hot flushes of perimenopause in the hope that they would warm me up but they seem to have passed me by HmmGrin.

DH thinks that I am actually a reptile Grin

Becstar90 · 12/04/2021 14:09

Undies and bfs old tshirts. I can't stand feeling restricted. Get too hot!

SirenSays · 12/04/2021 14:10

Naked, though I'm a bit of a nudist when at home anyway. Pj's irritate me so much Ive been known to take them off in my sleep and launch them across the room. Bit awkward when backpacking and staying in hostel dorms. I learnt to sleep with an extra set under my pillows just in case.

CounsellorTroi · 12/04/2021 14:10

Pyjamas, short ones in summer and naked if it's really hot.

Bramblebutter · 12/04/2021 14:15

Pyjama bottoms and t-shirt. Sometimes a jumper on top. Recently moved to a big house, so sometimes my bobble hat too. As soon as I start getting sleepy my body temperature plummets
