To ask how I can lose 2 stone in the quickest way possible?

I know why I’m overweight, and I know a quick fix isn’t usually the answer but I’ve just found out I’m eligible for IVF on the NHS. The only downside is I have to lose 2 stone to bring my BMI below 30.

I’m in shock as I’d got my head around the fact we’d have to use savings/ get a loan and when you pay privately, your BMI is less of an issue.

Apparently there’s no waiting list either so the sooner I lose the weight, the sooner we can crack on. Time isn’t on our side, I’m nearing 40 and have been recommended starting ASAP.

I’ve done meal replacement diets in the past and the weight loss was quick but I couldn’t exercise. To be honest, I’ve done every diet ever. Sad
Any advice would be gratefully received.

@Ticktock40 I am doing James Duncan for three weeks with a day off in between.

Dr said no carbs (assuming conplex carbs?) or salt for last week before appointment to drop water weight. Also take diuretics and laxatives - naturally occurring in food.

I'm sure other posters won't agree with this approach but having tried for 5 years with multiple losses it's a last chance saloon.

James Duncan is basically eggs grapefruit salad veg abs meat. Super healthy and feel full time and food doing it.

You can ivf until 42 in my area. It's a postcode lottery.

Fast 800 is very good too.

I know youve had loads of different suggestions - I think calorie counting and 16:8 is your best combo for sustainability and long term health - I know you are looking for quick loss but you also need to think health for your IVF and pregnancy. Use my fitness pal to work out your calorie intake for a deficit and then eat those calories in an 8 hour window. I reckon if you stick to it religiously you can lose 2 stone in 2-3 months.

If you want a super fast loss then my friend did Cambridge and lost 11lb in her first week and then 7-8lb a week for the next 3. But as soon as she did so much as have a latte or a glass of wine she'd not lose anything that week and soon put it all back on. I think you want something sustainable personally.

Good luck. I'm 3 stone overweight with an underactive thyroid and emotional issues so I know how hard weight loss can be. Rooting for.you!!

If you have some money saved OP you could maybe open a Vitality stocks & shares ISA. I’ve just opened one after reading a Which? Money article.

I now get a load of perks including 6 months of WW digital & studio for £30 (refunded if I reach target weight) and 40% off Nuffield gym membership. Also discounts on David Lloyd clubs, Virgin fitness, 50% off virgin active online classes, plus other rewards.

I know this isn’t a quick fix, but going forward you need to be as fit and healthy as possible for IVF and pregnancy. Also the more activities you do via the perks, the less fees you pay on you ISA, so it’s more of an incentive to be active and healthier (That’s what I’m hoping anyway!)

Good luck 💐

alternative day fasting.

Some days, I couldn't quite face it so id have an egg at about 8pm, and then i'd eat again the next day and I still lost weight fast on that.

put it back on when I stopped adf though but it does work

br1anmay · 11/04/2021 18:10

I lost 2 stone nearly 4 years ago with Slimming World and have kept it off. You can become an online member, so you don't have to go to the classes.

shutterteal · 11/04/2021 18:11

Saxenda. Available at Lloyd's pharmacy online.
A few threads on MN about it.

WiserThanATreeFullOfOwls · 11/04/2021 18:12

The only thing that'll do it as quickly as you want is meal replacement - Cambridge diet ideal. This way you can be sure that you've got the calories correct and aren't under estimating

You'd lose the 2 stone within about 2 months. Your next best bet is the blood sugar diet but for simplicity and kit having to think - gotta be meal replacement

amijustparanoidorjuststoned · 11/04/2021 18:12

1,500 calories per day (track this by using My Fitness Pal), drink lots of water and do at least 5,000 steps per day.

DoctorBambino · 11/04/2021 18:13

It might be worth checking how long they expect you to maintain the weight loss for too. I've heard of some clinics monitoring weight for 6 months or so to check you stay within bmi levels

fruitypancake · 11/04/2021 18:15

You could do a juice diet for a week and then v strict, healthy only following. That would kick start your weight loss and could maybe lose a stone in a week. Hard though. Good luck

TomorrowIsAnotherDae · 11/04/2021 18:15

DON’T try Saxenda! Honestly, you need to lose weight naturally if you want to try IVF. Saxenda is a drug.

BrokenDishwasher · 11/04/2021 18:16

Lighter life. It’s brutal and expensive, but insanely effective. I lost four stone in three months. You can’t eat anything except their food. Can’t drink anything other than water.

aug2ftm · 11/04/2021 18:16

I lost a stone in 6 weeks (but I was only 9st 7 at the time - ha and I thought I was fat then) doing Slimming World. Folk at the meetings bigger than me and doing it more strictly with more exercise could lose that in 2-3 weeks easy.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 11/04/2021 18:17

Dysentrey is your friend - on this occasion.
😖 😱

NichyNoo · 11/04/2021 18:17

Cut out all carbs and fast between the hours of 6pm-7am. Might not be sustainable in the long term but should get you over the two stone mark.

diamondpony80 · 11/04/2021 18:18

Fast 800 or Exante should do it in about 8 weeks if you follow them strictly. They're tough for the first week or two though.

oakleaffy · 11/04/2021 18:23

Following...
My BMI is 25, but have had an agonising knee flare from osteoarthritis, and need to lose 1.5 stones ideally

Every half stone in weight loads a hell of a lot more than that on a knee joint.

I did walk a fair bit before knee flare, but DS says it is carbs and sweet stuff that is the bad thing.

Have never dieted before, but this extra avoirdupois is doing my knee no good at all.

Carry a bag of shopping full of the amount of weight you need to lose, and it is quite shocking how heavy a stone and a half actually IS.

When I stopped eating after 7pm I lost weight, eating -nibbling- in the evenings is not good news.

FrankieDettol · 11/04/2021 18:25

Just cutting out alcohol won't necessarily help, depending of course how much you usually drink. I've been alcohol free for 6 months and not lost at all. However I didn't drink much and have been over eating sugar which is a very common substitute when you stop drinking.

oakleaffy · 11/04/2021 18:25

@NichyNoo

Cut out all carbs and fast between the hours of 6pm-7am. Might not be sustainable in the long term but should get you over the two stone mark.

I'd agree.
I stopped eating after 7pm and lost weight without trying.

Easier to do in lighter evenings.
squiglet111 · 11/04/2021 18:26

Keto (low carb) lost 4st in 6months. The only diet that worked for me and I've tried most diets. Didn't feel like I was missing out too much. The food was tasty enough. Lots of alternatives that can be bought /baked.

Havehope21 · 11/04/2021 18:26

Please don't do anything drastic - you need to nourish your body to be strong and healthy for IVF. I would recommend contacting Rhitrition who has lots of evidence based information and will help you.

felulageller · 11/04/2021 18:29

I've lost 20lbs in 6 weeks by using mfp to eat only 900 calories most days (once a week a treat day of up to 1300) and using a fit bit to make sure I'm exercising enough to burn 2400+ calories a day. I do this by walking min 2 hours a day and 22 'zone' (fat burning) minutes of exercise a day.

NamechangeApril21 · 11/04/2021 18:34

I started on the fast 800, moving to 5:2 - combining both with 16:8 fasting

Drinking loads of water

Couch to 5k 3 times a week
yoga with adrienne 6 times a week
Joe wicks 3 times a week

It's really mentally tough but the weight is falling off. First month was torture but now its really not too bad at all.

Biscuitsneeded · 11/04/2021 18:34

Track calories. 1200 a day and light exercise (eg a 40 minute walk) 3 x a week, stepping up to a cycle ride or similar once the first stone is gone and you feel generally better. You can lose 2 stone in 3 months if you're determined. Don't do shakes or other yucky stuff though. Gets SO boring. Instead:

breakfast: small bowl of not-sweetened cereal, low fat milk and loads of fruit.
Mid-morning: banana
lunch: salad, or soup with a small piece of bread or an unbuttered crumpet
mid pm: fruit or carrot sticks etc
evening meal: a normalish dinner, smallish portion, nothing excessive - you know what is OK and what isn't it. Low fat yoghurt if really craving something sweet.

I have done this many times and lost 2-3 stone. It isn't sustainable because in the end you crave other stuff but as a short term fix it works.
