To ask how I can lose 2 stone in the quickest way possible?

I know why I’m overweight, and I know a quick fix isn’t usually the answer but I’ve just found out I’m eligible for IVF on the NHS. The only downside is I have to lose 2 stone to bring my BMI below 30.

I’m in shock as I’d got my head around the fact we’d have to use savings/ get a loan and when you pay privately, your BMI is less of an issue.

Apparently there’s no waiting list either so the sooner I lose the weight, the sooner we can crack on. Time isn’t on our side, I’m nearing 40 and have been recommended starting ASAP.

I’ve done meal replacement diets in the past and the weight loss was quick but I couldn’t exercise. To be honest, I’ve done every diet ever. Sad
Any advice would be gratefully received.

Military or chemical diet

cherish123 · 12/04/2021 17:31

Give up bread/pasta.

I am quite slim and didn't mean to lose weight. I stopped eating them as they made me feel.ill. I lost weight I didn't even know I had.

starrybee · 12/04/2021 17:32

Exercise.

Have you tried couch to 5k?

Mumzy2020 · 12/04/2021 17:34

Id say go keto and do intermittent fasting i. Good luck

nancywhitehead · 12/04/2021 17:38

Don't do any fad diets. Just stick to 1500-1800 calories a day, get some Orlistat from the Dr (you should be eligible for this as your BMI is above 30) and do some exercise, even if it's just a daily walk. MyFitnessPal is also a great tool. You will be surprised at how quickly it comes off by doing very simple things.

I’ve been doing WW and last week hit my 2 stone loss. It’s taken 3 months. I stick rigid to it during the week and on a Saturday make a fakeaway and have a few drinks. I’ve used the WW app and found Amy recipes on the pinch of nom website

Itsalwayshard · 12/04/2021 17:39

Weight watchers worked for me, I lost 3 stone in 6 months. Didnt stick to it through lockdown so have put some back on but went back on to weight watchers and lost 10lb in a week. Plenty of (light due to health issues) exercise aswell. Good luck!

wasmarriedtoacockwomble · 12/04/2021 17:41

*many recipes! 🙄

Lucyk1 · 12/04/2021 17:41

You said you know why you're overweight but then said you've done every diet ever. So why are you over weight? Cause that's the reason right there that you need to change to lose it... Weather that is exercise more, cutting out pasta and bread or cakes... Whatever reason you think it is, give it up. Cutting out all carbs, cakes and things we love would make a huge difference quickly.

@Ticktock40

Thank you so much for the advice and supportive messages. I am so crap at losing weight but I’ve never had a motivation quite like this!

After reading all your advice I’m going to try to only eat between 11am and 7pm (18:6) I’m going to reduce my calories to 800-1000 and I’m going to keep going with c25k. I’m also going to walk 10-12000 steps a day, drink tonnes of water and generally try and take better care of myself.

I’m feeling really positive, and I’m going to keep coming back here to read your supportive comments if I feel my willpower slipping! Grin

If you do this then your body will literally starve, and you won't keep it up for 8 weeks. It's just unrealistic.

Over an 8 week period, you can lose 2 stone by doing 1500 calories and a one hour walk every day. That is all you have to do. Be reasonable with it, don't starve yourself and you are much more likely to have success.

If you are going to have IVF then you need to be strong as well as a lower weight. This plan of yours will make your body weak.

@superram

The fast 800, even just for 3 weeks then lowish carb, 16:8 or 5:2. You need to be healthy for ivf too so don’t go mad! I lost a stone in 3 weeks on fast 800 then another stone over the following 2 months. I also began couch to 5k.

I've done WW in the past and lose an average of 1.5lbs a week, which is just over 4 months for 2 stone without too much pain or starvation. On the weeks that I took extra exercise (walking) I could normally lose 2lb. Weight loss is quick at the start.
superram took just under 3 months but I'm guessing that it was pretty hard work.

Keto diet has been a saviour for me and many people. Lots of good red meat (grass fed if you can get it), chicken, eggs, fish, avocados and veggies and full fat dairy careful with fruit. Low fat high carb diets do not work and have been pushed by big food corporations. Just get the carbs and sugar out of you diet. Eat natural and no processed shit.

wildchild554 · 12/04/2021 17:47

slimming world, have lost 2 stone since christmas and really easy to do as you can still have occasional treats. :)

PandoraP · 12/04/2021 17:48

I always lose weight when I walk a lot. For some reason it’s more efficient for me than the gym. It might be because the gym makes me hungry 😋
Can you really lose 2 stones in 6 weeks like some posters here? It sounds a lot.

wildchild554 · 12/04/2021 17:49

Do not consume less that 1200 calories this is dangerous and can effect your health.

Howzaboutye · 12/04/2021 17:49

Has anyone mentioned Fitness Blender?
They do free workouts you do from home. Plus not very expensive workout plans.
And meal plans.

This is the new you for the long run, don't do a crazy diet. Chuck out/ give away all the rubbish food. Make and stick to healthy meal plans.

Get exercising.
Keep going!

Anoone · 12/04/2021 17:54

Google the ‘Liver shrinking diet’. Not recommend long term but consultants suggest patients who need to lose weight quickly before an operation follow this.

LibbyL92 · 12/04/2021 17:56

I have lost 2 stone since jan.
13st stone 13 to 11st 10

Doing low carb. 20g carbs a day. It’s the only thing that has worked for me.

granniesbonnet · 12/04/2021 17:57

Cambridge or slim fast. Have all the nutrients you need and average weight loss is a stone a month. Best of luck.

angela99999 · 12/04/2021 18:00

@Quit4me

It’s really simple! (But takes will power to stick to!)
Cut out all heavily processed foods. That’s it!
That means:
No refined sugar. No wheat. No alcohol except the occasional sprit.
No pasta, no rice, no noodles, no white potato (an occasional sweet potato ok)
No oats - porridge
No cereal
Most importantly no bread or any bread products!
No sugary foods at all except berries, apples, fruit. Be careful with just the occasional banana.
Handful of almonds as a snack fine.
You are aiming for eggs and protein for breakfast
Salad with protein or a homemade soup for lunch.
Protein (chicken or pork or beef or fish) with veg or more salad for dinner.
Snacks are fruit and a few almonds or plain greek youghurt or carrot / cucumber sticks with hummus
No sugar in tea or coffee.
It’s basically the primal diet. It works- fast. The weight literally drops of in weeks but you have to stick to it. Any lapses in sugar or processed carbs will majorly slow it down

Gwenhwyfar no white potatoes aren't processed, but ARE high on the Glycaemic Index , i.e. they release their energy quickly. This diet avoids virtually all carbohydrates which are what puts foods high on the index - though why fruit is allowed I have no idea. Less extreme low GI diets versions would allow foods such as brown rice or new potatoes which are not so high on the index as these foods release their energy more slowly and are said to keep you full for longer.
The Mosely programme mentioned earlier has virtually no carbohydrate at all which results in the body burning fat for energy and leaves you feeling very washed our for a few days at the start before your body settles down. It certainly isn't one for the longer term and personally I wouldn't have thought it was a good preparation for pregnancy, even in the shorter term.

I agree, meal substitues are fail safe provided you don't cheat and don't do it for long.
angela99999 · 12/04/2021 18:06
@Sightforsoreeyez

Ok. I think it's sad (and irresponsible) to recommend an unhealthy and risky diet to people, especially one that actually claims to lengthen lifespan by 25 years. Each to their own 👍🏻
I agree. The lifespan claim is just insane. And this diet is not a good preparation for pregnancy.

Pregladon · 12/04/2021 18:06

Weight training!!
When I started I was well overweight, but I lost 2 stone in 2 months, and it kept dropping off...I'm now pregnant so no more weight loss for me!
But what's great is you don't get that gross ill look you get when you go on a VLCD (which I've also done), you just look really glowy, toned, and strong. It really helps sculpt your figure, and you feel fantastic.

That, and seriously upping your protein intake, and lowering fat and carbs. Don't cut them out completely, but just choose healthy carbs and fats in small proportions. And no sugar!

csigeek · 12/04/2021 18:19

Calorie deficit (certainly not 1200, that’s ludicrous) and cardio.

chickywoo · 12/04/2021 18:21

Calorie deficit is really good
Basically is your weight in pounds
And x it by 10,11, or 12 gives you amount of calories in a day you can eat.
Eg 12 stone 168 pounds
You can eat 1680, or 1848, or 2016 depending on how quick you want to go.
That way you can eat anything you like no wrong or right foods ( obviously is better to go for healthy options!)
Combine with some exercise -
Couch to 5kg is really easy to follow.
Just seen pp saying eat 1200 a day don’t do that that is recommended daily calories for a toddler! All that will happen is that your body will store fat out of panic it’s not getting fed!
