They are keeping Andrew out the way, arent they?

On the bbc news, 3 out 4 of the queen's children wished to say something in tribute to their father...

Andrew is obviously been kept on the back burner. They must know there's only so much the less fawning of us can take.

@TheSpottedZebra

They’re all pre-recorded well in advance and just updated every now and again. They’ve already done one for their mother, and I believe for each other, as well.

What, surely not? Now, pretend that your mum has died - that's right, remember to use the past tense- now what would you say about her?

Isnt it more likely that they just recorded a short bit at home after he died, and it was sent in to the media?

Yes, they are all pre-recorded a long time in advance, and are re-made or re-edited every so often. I work in media, and there are lots of these sorts of things, all with the VIP spoken about in the past tense, and the speakers dressed formally in sombre clothing, when the person they are speaking about is very much alive.
Sparklingbrook · 11/04/2021 09:58

@ChardonnaysPetDragon

Surely that's a good thing?

Would you prefer to if they didn't, OP?

Or would you complain either way?

Kept out of the way=wrong. Not being kept out of the way =wrong.

Presumably.

@Pixxie7

Regardless of what people think of him he has just lost his dad, give him a break.
Was about to say the same.
SueSaid · 11/04/2021 09:59

'yet we have on here people sticking up for him. Disgusting.'

Not sticking up for him, rather sticking up for a correct judicial process y'know with charges and evidence. All that inconvenient stuff. If charged and found guilty fine. He hasn't yet though has he?

KarensChoppyBob · 11/04/2021 10:00

Most men involved with sex crimes DO NOT get charged and they DO get away with it.

Nothing new to see here.

Blimey! Obviously I knew that they have obituaries ready to go, but I didn't imagine that would include the 'now imagine your dad has just died, what would you say' bit.

That IS horrific. As is having to make any public statement after a bereavement.

It's really not. My dad is elderly, he has dementia, he's not going to be around forever.

There won't be TV coverage when he dies because he's not important in a national sense but as a daughter if I were in that position I'd relish the chance to sit down well in advance and plan all the things I wanted to get across about a parent. With an opportunity to review the footage, add to it, clarify points. Not have an interview sprung on me at short notice when you're dealing with grief and the world's press wanting a picture of you crying.

Also agree with Sophie and Edward. Very underrated, hard-working Royals. Met them at an event once and they were very charming, interested and arrived without fanfare.

ssd · 11/04/2021 10:07

A witness statement is not the same as being actually questioned by the FBI.

So many posters defending raping a sex trafficked girl barely out of secondary school. Vile vile vile.

And "BANISHED!!!" So dramatic! You make it sound like he's been expelled to some forced labour camp in Outer Mongolia. Rather than living a very cushy life in his mummy's house, that's basically identical to the life he lead before save no longer doing his illegal and fraudulent "duties" i.e. Pitch Palace (directly financially profiting from his Royal Status - remember when everyone was up in arms about the mere possibility Harry would do the same?).

The Queen made a point of doing pap strolls with him as a public show of support.

He has not been "banished".

Amazing how posh white men can do no wrong on Mumsnet.

I’m pretty sure that isn’t how it goes. My guess is that the filming was done for a 100th birthday tribute and recycled.
SueSaid · 11/04/2021 10:10

'A witness statement is not the same as being actually questioned by the FBI'

Well it's a start isn't it. He's offered witness statements 3 times. If they actually have evidence why don't they liaise with the Met and have him questioned?

ssd · 11/04/2021 10:11

I like Sophie, very under rated and very genuine.

I'm finding the pre recorded tributes when the person is still alive extremely weird. Iwas confused by the black ties, past tense and indecent haste of that programme, so thanks for explaining. Another thing the bbc has misjudged I think

SueSaid · 11/04/2021 10:13

'So many posters defending raping a sex trafficked girl barely out of secondary school. Vile vile vile.'

Allegedly. For the trillionth time I'm not defending him. If they charge him etc fine but this mn kangaroo court is ridiculous, we have a correct legal process for a reason.

Livelovebehappy · 11/04/2021 10:13

I think anyone who they feel is controversial they are keeping them out of the way, so as not to distract from the main event. Andrew is pretty much trashed now, and will never regain any respect from the public (if he ever had any). He’s done a lot of damage to the monarchy and must be a huge embarrassment to the Queen.

KarensChoppyBob · 11/04/2021 10:15

Jannie, seriously, do you ever think that will be applied to him, with all his protection?

It’s not just the BBC. All channels do it. I’ve worked on some of these for other broadcasters.

I agree. I found the comment from charles saying how he misses his dad, about 2 days after he'd died a bit weird. I don't think they'd have seen each other every day even outside covid times. I'm sure its an oversight, but for people who have lost their dad like me it just seemed weird.

All the news channels do it. All the news broadcasters have black clothing to change into. Interviews are pre-recorded for the news and the newspapers have articles ready to publish. Funerals are planned years and years in advance and rehearsed. Diana’s funeral was based on what had been planned and rehearsed for the Queen mother.
Alsohuman · 11/04/2021 10:23

You don’t need to see someone every day to miss them. I’m sure Charles does miss his dad. When I read that I thought “Not nearly as much as you’re going to miss him in the coming weeks and months, you poor bugger”.

@FightingTheFoo

Prince Andrew has been banished from public life. People keep going on about him in contrast to Meghan ("oh why do the media go on about Meghan when Prince Andrew is so dodgy etc etc") - I mean, there can be no greater evidence than this. He has been utterly banished from public life. The Rf can't do more than they've done considering he hasn't even been charged with anything let alone convicted. And equally, because he's been banished from public life there's very little to report on!

But yes, it's pretty significant in terms of showing how far he's fallen from grace.

Yes, I agree. He's now known for associating with sex traffickers so the RF are hiding him and I guess hoping out of sight equals out of mind for the public.

Someone on another thread said that the press aren't reporting on him in case they prejudice any future trial. Which I think is also a valid point.

SueSaid · 11/04/2021 10:29

'do you ever think that will be applied to him, with all his protection?'

Yes. I don't believe the Queen would ever be complicit in evading justice by lying. If they have evidence there is not a chance they would not instruct the UK police force to investigate.

He has offered 3 witness statements yet they haven't taken him up on this offer. Why's that do you think?

MagicSummer · 11/04/2021 10:29

Whatever Andrew has or hasn't done, remember he has just lost his father and obviously wants to be at the funeral to pay his respects. Imagine how strange it would look if all other members of the family were there, and he wasn't?

LakieLady · 11/04/2021 10:37

I wonder what the constitutional position would be if it came to prosecuting a member of the RF in the Crown Court?

After all, prosecutions are brought in the name of the Queen, by the Crown Prosecution Service and, for serious offences, prosecuted and defended by "her" counsel.

It would be pretty weird to see "R v HRH the Duke Of Anyoldwhere" in the lists.
