At a risk of being sent to the Tower, whilst I think it is sad that Prince Philip has died, am I alone in being amazed at the constant repetitive TV about his life.
It’s just going over snd over same old stuff. And I’d like to watch some normal TV !

IABU - YES
IANBU - NO

Have emailed. I was really looking forward to the Marterchef final (precious little else to do in the lockdown).

Terrylovesyogurt · 09/04/2021 20:23

@tootyfruitypickle

Well I'm cross about Gardeners world going but will be livid if line of duty goes

I was a soft republican before this but dear god bring on the revolution

He was just a bloke. A privileged rich one at that. Sorry to his family and all that but he is absolutely no more important than joe bloggs walking down the street

Couldn't have put it better @tootyfruitypickle
AbsolutelyPatsy · 09/04/2021 20:24

just come on mumsnet and have a discussion or start a disagreement if you dont want to watch the tv.

Purplekitchen · 09/04/2021 20:25

YANBU
His actual life may have been rich and varied but the tv coverage of it is boring and repetitive.
I have seen Nick Witchell report about 3 times today.

NeverBeenNormal · 09/04/2021 20:25

We've resorted to the iplayer after watching the BBC relentlessly scraping the barrel. The regional news trying to extract every tenuous link the Duke might have had with the area was the final straw

JustJustWhy · 09/04/2021 20:25

@Nanny0gg

Good job you weren't around when Churchill died. And there were only 3 (just) channels, all in B&W. The country came to a standstill for the funeral

Good. I've been a keyworker and worked mostly through the last year. I could do with a day off.

AbsolutelyPatsy · 09/04/2021 20:28

get off your back sides then and do something instead of watching so much tv Angry and then whinging about it.

Bbq1 · 09/04/2021 20:28

YDDNBU
Cannot believe BBC 1 & 2 are showing the exact same programmes about the Prince all night. I liked him and feel sorry for the Queen and the family but this is ridiculous.

savethegrannies · 09/04/2021 20:28

This shite has even infiltrated Sky Sports now ffs.

AbsolutelyPatsy · 09/04/2021 20:29

why are you watching nicholas witchell 3 times? sounds a bit excessive.

LIZS · 09/04/2021 20:32

@randomer

Diana was young and beautiful and it was a massive shock. he was very very old.
Diana's death fell on a bank holiday weekend.

Been off my backside all day...all week in fact. I was looking forward to some mindless TV and bed.
RideaCockHorseOfCourse · 09/04/2021 20:32

You're not wrong! I have every respect for the extraordinary life of the Duke, but what really hacks me off is the sheer laziness of the BBC, running exactly the same programme on BBC 2 as on 1 since about 5 p.m. Bloody hell, even when the Covid reports took precedence on BBC 1, you could still get Pointless on 2! And WTF with completely suspending BBC 4? It would've been a couple of TOTPs reruns or live women's football at 8 p.m. (not exactly my choice of viewing but, to just ditch it??)

Sparklingbrook · 09/04/2021 20:32

@AbsolutelyPatsy

Watching him once is enough. 😂

So much TV? I've not had the TV on all day (and who gives a fuck if I have). Maybe you should get off your backside and off the internet.
tttigress · 09/04/2021 20:35

I believe a lot of channels are a bit low on content due to Corona.

Maybe they are taking the opportunity to save a days worth of content.

Felifox · 09/04/2021 20:36

BBC4 is off air, BBC'1, 2 News and Parliament are all about HRH Philip. I'm watching iplayer

FloofyMrDarcy · 09/04/2021 20:36

And again, within 8 hours of the announcement of a persons death, someone is moaning about it pissing on their TV schedule.
Christ, just imagine for a second that it was your father / husband, whatever.
Would you be happy that your friends told you to shut the fuck up on the same day they died?

blowinahoolie · 09/04/2021 20:36

Emailed BBC with link provided by a PP on this thread.

Monkeytennis97 · 09/04/2021 20:36

I agree OP. One channel is enough.

Piggywaspushed · 09/04/2021 20:36

Next thing MN will go down again and then I might have to start eating my family for some entertainment.

ThatMortgageDilemma · 09/04/2021 20:37

Well, I was never a fan of him as always focused in the infamous remarks but reading all this articles about him has really made me realise he was more than meets the eye.

For a starters, a lot of consorts only enjoy the great life rather than devoting themselves to facilitate change.

MeanderingGently · 09/04/2021 20:37

Yes, I have missed Gardener's World!!
However, I have great respect for the Duke of Edinburgh and don't begrudge him endless TV coverage on the day of his death...I mean, we've had endless COVID for a bloody year so surely this is better??

Brindisi32 · 09/04/2021 20:38

YANBU the media have been planning their responses to this for years. The papers will be full of this for days too. It's unreasonable to put these tributes on for hours on all channels. Yes it's sad the man has died but this is OTT.

PerkingFaintly · 09/04/2021 20:39

To my surprise, I'm really enjoying the evening coverage on BBC 1 Scotland.

I'd had no idea whatsoever about many of the Duke's activities. Didn't realise he was an environmentalist, or that he'd helped set up the WWF. They've just been talking about how he used his position to connect people and make things happen – and who else could have roped in the Pope?

It's really eye-opening. Much, much more interesting career than I had any idea.
