Repetitive TV about Duke’s Death

At a risk of being sent to the Tower, whilst I think it is sad that Prince Philip has died, am I alone in being amazed at the constant repetitive TV about his life.
It’s just going over snd over same old stuff. And I’d like to watch some normal TV !

IABU - YES
IANBU - NO

The propaganda is just too much! Even 6 Music has been overtaken. Yes we don't have to warmth or listen to it, but why are we being subjected (pardon the pun) to it?

GabsAlot · 09/04/2021 20:09

@LIZS

Even CNN have dropped coverage of the George Floyd trial. Does seem somewhat disproportionate.
Quite surprised about that theyre not in the commonwealth and this is the biggest trial of the century
Mxflamingnoravera · 09/04/2021 20:10

God it's tiresome. TV, radio, SM. I'm turning it all off and going to dance to some funk n soul in the kitchen.

YANBU

benorjerry · 09/04/2021 20:10

@fliss444

I can forgive most things BUT NO EMMERDALE?????? I'm in shock.
I recall when Diana died, the schedule cutting went on for almost a week, no Countdown until Thursday for example and on the day she died I was furious because they dropped one of my favourite films. I would seriously doubt that the man himself would have wanted such a blanket coverage.
Nat6999 · 09/04/2021 20:11

Just seen there won't be any briefings for 8 days, there is always a positive.

UrAWizHarry · 09/04/2021 20:12

It's the BBC at it's sycophantic worst, demonstrating perfectly why the sooner we are rid of both the monarchy and the licence fee, the better.

serin · 09/04/2021 20:12
@CurlyhairedAssassin so much Coldplay. And Whitney Houston. So so much.
James Blunt, Adele and Dido on the radio here. I'm not convinced that they are a fitting memorial really, I'm guessing DOE was more of a Sinatra chap.

Every cloud!
ArtemisiaGentle · 09/04/2021 20:13

I don't watch much live TV now, and we've had Disney+ on for much of the day. I respect the Royal Family but there is only so much that can be said before it gets repetitive.

NobbySignaler · 09/04/2021 20:13

@SophieB100

Mother of God give me strength. If they cancel Line of Duty on Sunday, I will not be responsible for my actions. They have to follow the schedule to the letter. To. The. Letter! We have bent coppers to catch fellas! As you were Wink
Grin I'm with you on that.
RedcurrantPuff · 09/04/2021 20:14

@GabsAlot

my dh just said he read theyve cleared the schedules for tomorrow aswell

i think thats too much tbh

Oh FFS that’s ridiculous
FangsForTheMemory · 09/04/2021 20:14

The repetitive telly is nothing to the repetitive threads on Mumsnet!

benorjerry · 09/04/2021 20:15

@TrickorTreacle

I can understand the non-stop reporting when Princess Diana died, but not with the Duke.

He was no Princess Diana tbh.

No, he was far more important than the ex wife of his son. I wonder if the hordes will be demanding that HM comes to London to lead their mourning or will she be allowed some time to look after herself, similar to how in '97 she put her grieving grandsons first for once.
the80sweregreat · 09/04/2021 20:16

I bet the Duke of Edinburgh didn't like Adele at all.
He was more ' old school ' with the singers I bet.

terfinginthevoid · 09/04/2021 20:16

The BBC must be getting quite a lot of comments about this, as they have set up a dedicated complaints page, you can just add enter your email address if you don't want to write a comment or give your details.

I felt quite sad (for about five minutes) when they interrupted Radio 4 with the news. Since watching The Crown, he's been by far my favourite royal. But I think the clearing of the schedules is just ridiculous.

Loveisthehope · 09/04/2021 20:16

I'm a real monarchist but even I think it's too much, not just BBC it's on ITV and ch4 too plus all the BBC radio stations all afternoon - it's too much

YukoandHiro · 09/04/2021 20:17

YANBU exactly but also we live in a monarchy so I'm not sure what you expected

Devlesko · 09/04/2021 20:17

My dh is just out of hospital, after a life changing emergency op.
He just wanted to watch Corrie, and hates the royals.
Our tv shouldn't be affected, one bloody channel is enough not 14.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 09/04/2021 20:18

There's other bloody channels out there.

Not ones for which we pay a licence fee. This is exactly what the BBC News channel is for. What's the point in having a dedicated news channel when you don't rely on it for when the really big news comes along?

Even if you also put it on BBC1 for the popular traffic, what's the point in having it on BBC2 as well? It annoys me enough when they do it for Wimbledon and football championships - no choice for those who aren't interested at all and those who are interested have to miss one of them!

They even repeatedly flashed up a thick banner on CBeebies for minutes at a time, blocking out a large part of the screen, to advertise the 'major news story' on BBC1. Highly inappropriate and possibly upsetting/disconcerting - especially for children with ASD. Imagine the children who have recently lost a DGM or DGF, or have one who is very old or ill, who can't even escape the realities of death and sadness on their own channel for little ones.

tootyfruitypickle · 09/04/2021 20:19

Well I'm cross about Gardeners world going but will be livid if line of duty goes

I was a soft republican before this but dear god bring on the revolution

He was just a bloke. A privileged rich one at that. Sorry to his family and all that but he is absolutely no more important than joe bloggs walking down the street

Terrylovesyogurt · 09/04/2021 20:20

I'm with you 100% OP. I've turned the TV off.. And the radio. Even Simon Mayo was snivelling and playing far too much Elton John. Enough already Angry

blowinahoolie · 09/04/2021 20:21

Frantically flicking through the channels. Where is the BBC'S Royal Family channel??? They need one solely for all this coverage. Let the old chap rest in peace without all this fanfare. Absolutely ridiculous. Sad for the family, but come on! Let us watch the usual scheduled programmes.

randomer · 09/04/2021 20:22

Diana was young and beautiful and it was a massive shock. he was very very old.

AbsolutelyPatsy · 09/04/2021 20:22

it is a major death.
not everyone has been watching all day.
some people like to catch up or have only just got in

ImAlrightThanx · 09/04/2021 20:22

@Nat6999

This afternoon on Drama channel there weren't any adverts, just the UKTV symbol & some awful music but it went back to normal about 4.30pm. I was thinking the darts would be cancelled but it's on as normal. I bet a lot of the TV newscaster have had to go rooting for their black outfits.
Nah, he's 99. They'll have had them handy for at least the last few years I reckon.
