At a risk of being sent to the Tower, whilst I think it is sad that Prince Philip has died, am I alone in being amazed at the constant repetitive TV about his life.
It’s just going over snd over same old stuff. And I’d like to watch some normal TV !

Autocorrect is not my friend today!

Should be majority and TV channels 🤦‍♀️

tigger1001 · 10/04/2021 13:53

@PuppyMonkey

Radio 2 has now got Steve Wright on for four hours instead of Pick of the Pops.Sad
That in itself is a national disgrace.
sashagabadon · 10/04/2021 13:54

Definitely not joking. Genuinely am on way home from Buckingham palace. Very happy I went.

Baws · 10/04/2021 13:55

Just on way back from Buckingham Palace. Loads of people there, huge queue to lay flowers, lovely mix of people.
Loads of camera crews setting up too.

Are you joking? Tell me that you are.

People have been asked to stay away. To not lay flowers.

😱😱😱 Unbelievable!

What is wrong with people?

Happy to have totally disregarded the request to stay away? Jesus. If you're such a fan of the royals, why didn't you do as they've asked?
sashagabadon · 10/04/2021 13:58

What’s unbelievable? Me on way home from Buckingham Palace or a poster thinking I was joking when I said I was on my way home from Buckingham Palace?
I really am!

Why? The Royal Family asked people not to do this. A sea of rotting flowers and plastic wrapping is just litter and not good for the environment. HRH wouldn't have approved.
sashagabadon · 10/04/2021 13:59

They are also obviously expecting people. Have Marshall’s and all sorts. Very respectful. Anyway getting the off train now.

How is ignoring what the RF representatives have said?

If people wanted to be respectful then they would be donating to charity and not travelling to BP and leaving flowers. It's not respectful to ignore the wishes of the family who have been bereaved.

If a relative died and specified no flowers but named a charity would you consider it appropriate to go and leave flowers outside their house?

ShurelyNot · 10/04/2021 14:09

On the contrary, it's actually the epitome of that you totally disregarded their request to stay away. I don't think you've said whether or not you also took flowers, but that would be a further mark of disrespect both in regards to the royal family's wishes, and also the environment. As another poster said, they're often wrapped in plastic and they rot. The money spent on them would be far more useful donated to charity.

Really odd that anyone would feel happy at having turned up to bow, scrape and doff their cap in direct contravention of the requests of the family they're toadying to.

ShurelyNot · 10/04/2021 14:13

Monty Python or the Two Ronnies could have had a field day with all this.

Quite astounded by some of these comments, no one here knows 'what he was supposedly' like all opinions have come from media.

*Except there is evidence of these comments, have you not seen the footage?
*
Yes he was old but like it or not he is part of our monarchy. Do they need modernising maybe but again we are fed by the media the same as every other event. They are part of history.

History being my point, they have no place in today’s society and most of us object to having this ridiculous coverage forced upon us

Realistically do you think the parents of the little girl who is dying are bothered about the tv being taken up all day or the attention ? No i suspect because they are balanced people.
*The majority of people on here don’t agree with you so we aren’t balanced? 🤔 If it was my kid I would feel pretty insulted to be honest!
*
There are fsr more going on in people's lives don't like it don't watch it.
Which is the point of the post, we are being told what to watch due to the ridiculous and excessive coverage. Why should the major you not be able to watch a TV which we pay a license for just because a small minority want to dwell on the death of a 99 year old man ever didn’t know?[/quote]
In your opinion they have no place in society. But like it or not they are and will be. I have seen footage not excusing it but some of that is partly generational.

I don't hear moaning about the sport that dominates tv every Saturday

Do they have fjords in Greece? Grin
Nanny0gg · 10/04/2021 14:18

@KoalaOok

Do the BBC have to do it as part of their royal charter maybe?
Yes
GrimDamnFanjo · 10/04/2021 14:20

Don't know if this has been posted yet?

https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2017/mar/16/what-happens-when-queen-elizabeth-dies-london-bridge

I think that the DoEs coverage will be the last of its kind excluding the monarch. It does seem out of step with the public in general.

Nanny0gg · 10/04/2021 14:20

@Berlinbabylon66

Listening to Andrew Castle this morning, apparently he had a 'difficult' childhood Confused. Lived in France then moved to Surrey to be educated at a prep school then to a school in Germany owned by the Margrave of Baden, his brother in law. Seem to be reframing his early years as hard, certainly unstable but definitely not underpriviledged..
Really? Maybe look at it again.
CatalinaCasesolver · 10/04/2021 14:25

It's annoying but it's protocol.

I work in the civil service and we aren't even allowed to tweet at the moment.

Nanny0gg · 10/04/2021 14:28

@Stellaris22

Watch the coverage. It might change your mind.

No thanks, I prefer not to watch highly biased propaganda. I would be amazed if its a fair and accurate portrayal of him anyway. Are they discussing his many racist comments (or does the BBC still have their line of 'he knew how to lift the mood of a party'), and the time he told a grieving mother of two sons lost in a fire that 'smoke alarms are a damn nuisance'? I doubt it, so i'll stick to impartial viewing thanks.

Others might be happy to live in blissful ignorance and to be brainwashed with this BBC propaganda, but i'm good.

Well if you don't watch it you won't know, will you?

You're equally biased and brainwashed the other way

Livingtothefull · 10/04/2021 14:29

Here is the link if you wish to complain to the BBC about the coverage: www.bbc.co.uk/contact/death-duke-of-edinburgh-tv-coverage/#/Notification

The more I think about this the angrier I get. 127K people dead due to Covid over the last year...that's huge number of grieving family members. In the context of what has happened to so many of us, this blanket coverage on a Royal Family member who passed away at the end of a long privileged life is just so insensitive and tone deaf, it is inexcusable.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 10/04/2021 14:31

But who gets to decide the ‘protocol?’

It’s obviously out of touch if the BBC lost 60% of its viewers.

Nanny0gg · 10/04/2021 14:32

@Peregrina

He was a product of his time.

Oh yes? My late parents were born in 1917 and 1921, and neither of them made racist comments.

Mine were of a similar age. Sadly they did.

The words, rightfully unacceptable now, were commonplace then

Yes it is very depressing

Who cares about 127k deaths but we must all be focussed on one 99 year old dying.

But it’s not just my opinion is it? You are in the minority here. Have you actually seen how many people have complained to the BBC about this coverage so far?

People actually enjoy watching sport! It doesn’t dominate every channel either. I’m not a huge sports fan but I’ve always been able to switch over to something else if I wanted to. This was not an option yesterday and I object to being told that I should be grieving an unpleasant overprivileged 99 year old I’ve never met and have no interest in just because he happens to be part of an outdated institution!
