At a risk of being sent to the Tower, whilst I think it is sad that Prince Philip has died, am I alone in being amazed at the constant repetitive TV about his life.
It’s just going over snd over same old stuff. And I’d like to watch some normal TV !

IABU - YES
IANBU - NO

@Endlesscleaning

FFS, Prince Philip devoted over 70 years to public service.

Yet people are complaining about missing an afternoon of TV because of tributes to him.

Seriously Shock

It’s not an afternoon

It’s the same shite on repeat on all BBC TV channels including BBC Scotland.

tobee · 09/04/2021 22:55

Although Tanna did (does?) worship him of course

StoneofDestiny · 09/04/2021 22:56

I think he did a bloody brilliant job: 70 years of devoted service in the public eye, supporting the Queen and carrying out royal duties himself

He was an out and out racist with significant contempt for the people he spoke to on his trips around the globe. He was massively over rewarded for what he did - instead of being publicly condemned.

RedcurrantPuff · 09/04/2021 22:56

@tara66

As Prince Phillip is the husband of the Queen - the continue broadcasting/TV/newspaper articles today about him are part of tradition and protocol on the death of someone of his stature. The whole country is considered to be in mourning and the media are paying respect. He only died today anyway. People may not realise we are experiencing a national mourning event because it has been so long since an important member of the Royal Family died and they do not know what is involved..
Jeez how patronising can you be
Hoolihan · 09/04/2021 22:56

@XenoBitch

He is royalty... top tier royalty. So this is history book making stuff. That is why the television schedules are screwed up.
Belfast is currently on fire which is also 'history book making stuff' but we're not allowed to talk about that because a 99 year old man has, very expectedly, died.
Heyduggi · 09/04/2021 22:57

it's the schedulers deciding we all want to watch this massive over reaction to the death of. 99 year old royal

Does your TV not have an off button? Grin

I’ve found it fascinating. Historic day.

Keyring · 09/04/2021 22:58

Not true - I listened to a phone in yesterday evening about NI,

Further away, where is the coverage about the appalling coup in Myanmar?

TempsPerdu · 09/04/2021 22:59

It’s just absurd, like we’ve been transported back to the cap-doffing 1950s or something. I’ve complained to the BBC, not that it will do any good. We don’t even watch much TV, and none at all during the day, but it’s the lack of choice I object to. The whole thing feels like enforced mourning, just wall to wall propaganda on a loop with no escape for those of us who aren’t interested.

I was fairly neutral on the royals until today, but this evening I’m feeling increasingly like a full-on Republican.

Badyboo · 09/04/2021 22:59

@heyduggi have you been watching BBC 1 and BBC2 at the same time, or do you think that was overkill?

TempsPerdu · 09/04/2021 23:01

Well I’m certainly not, and neither is anyone else I know. I’m spectacularly unbothered and just slightly mystified by all the fuss.

kierenthecommunity · 09/04/2021 23:02

@Heyduggi I found maybe half an hour of the coverage interesting, but not so much I had to hear it seven or eight times

StoneofDestiny · 09/04/2021 23:02

Does your TV not have an off button?

Yep, and I used it.
Maybe the royalists could pay a fee for a separate royal channel so I wouldn't have to?

Kat22 · 09/04/2021 23:02

Totally ridiculous to have this wall to wall coverage! Why should those of us that are not interested be forced to watch or turn off. What about choice?

Inneedoflifeadvice · 09/04/2021 23:03

I was looking forward to 'Have I Got News For You' so YANBU.

I do think that some aspects of his life were very interesting like his relationship with his mother (who after recovering from a breakdown, sheltered Jewish refugees in WW2 and then became an Orthodox nun!)

Thisisnotreallymyname · 09/04/2021 23:03

@Heyduggi - yes it is historic ( ish ) , but it does not warrant BBC1 AND BBC2 showing exactly the same programmes on a 2 hour loop. I can see them dedicating say BBC2 to constant coverage, however, to duplicate programmes on a loop is just lazy and wrong.

Crap. I don't know anybody mourning the death of a man they never knew or met, and who in reality would have insulted them if they did meet him.

Not mourning in the sense of weeping and wailing, but more undertaking quiet reflection.

Don't worry, it'll all be back to normal in 8 days!

tobee · 09/04/2021 23:04

Does anyone have any up to date info as to how long these channels will be disrupted?

Sparklingbrook · 09/04/2021 23:05

Don’t anybody buy a newspaper in the morning whatever you do. There might be pull out specials and all sorts. Shock

StoneofDestiny · 09/04/2021 23:05

That's been pretty well documented and available on line - hardly breaking news. Besides, that's his mother, not him.

Inneedoflifeadvice · 09/04/2021 23:06

Also streaming services are your friend in this type of situation!

StoneofDestiny · 09/04/2021 23:07

Quiet reflection on the life of a pampered, over indulged, offensive racist? Geez - he wasn't Saint Philip

tobee · 09/04/2021 23:08

Streaming channels just underline the anachronism

kierenthecommunity · 09/04/2021 23:08

@Inneedoflifeadvice to be fair, as much as I’m agreeing with the scheduling being bizarre, I can see why they’d have cancelled HIGNFU. It’s not like they could have used his death for laughs, give it a week maybe 😉
