At a risk of being sent to the Tower, whilst I think it is sad that Prince Philip has died, am I alone in being amazed at the constant repetitive TV about his life.
It’s just going over snd over same old stuff. And I’d like to watch some normal TV !

IABU - YES
IANBU - NO

I’m watching Gogglebox now same as every Friday night. 🤷‍♀️

Keyring · 09/04/2021 21:16

I refer to the inability to put the death of PP in the context of the nation's history.

bonfireheart · 09/04/2021 21:17

120,000 people dead but let's stop everything cos an over privileged white man died.

duvetdreaming · 09/04/2021 21:17

If you don't like it then do something else or watch something you have recorded. I haven't seen any TV footage about PP because it's not something that particularly interests me so just like other evenings when there's nothing on TV I do something else instead.

lazyarse123 · 09/04/2021 21:18

@UnderHisAye

I don't give a single fuck that he died and I'm already hugely bored of the false sentiment.

I dread the Queen dying for similarly selfish reasons.

Me too.
Keyring · 09/04/2021 21:19

What a nation. Nothing to watch on TV - or not want people want - so wall to wall bleating. Go and read a book, wash up, play some music!

bonfireheart · 09/04/2021 21:19

The irony of the press also making him out to be a joke when he was alive and now falling over themselves with over competitive grieving.

I watched sky news for all of two minutes, they had some guy saying "oh the Prince used to say controversial things because he liked a laugh haha" hmm....

tobee · 09/04/2021 21:22

@Keyring

It is ignorant for those to look no further than the end of their noses, to say, oh it's an old privileged man, what do I care? - without looking at the wider context.

What a load of sanctimonious crap!

ssd · 09/04/2021 21:23

Well I'm in Glasgow and just heard fireworks.

This is one citation

And here's another refuting it:

XDownwiththissortofthingX · 09/04/2021 21:23

Judging by the fact they already have set up a specific automated response, I think the BBC is being hit pretty hard with complaints about the extent of their coverage.

Keyring · 09/04/2021 21:23

@Tobee - you've just proved my point! :)

CatAndHisKit · 09/04/2021 21:23

The fragile stability of the country is dependent on the plebs not uprising, really. Nothing else

But that's exactly what that poster meant - no uprising because of the successful / stable / even loved monarchy which the Queen has managed with the support of Philip (theadvice and the 'strength' as she puts it). In revolutionary coutries the monarchs were either far too remote/indulgent, or unpopular as personalities.
After The Queen goes the popularoity of the institution will inevitably go down, but so far they've contributed a lot to the stability of this country.

tobee · 09/04/2021 21:25

@Keyring

I refer to the inability to put the death of PP in the context of the nation's history.

Understanding the context of history and not feeling there should be all bbc and itv 1 and bbc radio channels (at least) are not mutually exclusive. Why would they be?

tobee · 09/04/2021 21:26
@Tobee - you've just proved my point! :)
Did I now?

Keyring · 09/04/2021 21:26

that''s true....but it was and is bound to happen when a senior royal dies. It doesn't happen that often - last one was the Queen Mother and I don't remember the coverage being so all pervading.

cateycloggs · 09/04/2021 21:26

Thee BBC has a 24 hour news channel but BBC4 is completely closed. The programmes tend to be repeats anyway so why close it? Radio 4extra and other stations have news specials on. Why? The point is as licence payers we are not getting the service promised. Yes I have complained before anyone asks.

Volcanoexplorer · 09/04/2021 21:26

It’s been on pretty much all day and all evening. They’re just saying the same stuff over and over again. No idea why it’s on both BBC 1 and 2. I understand the importance of the situation, but this is too much. If they want all day coverage it should largely be on the freeview news channels. We’re watching Netflix.

MissingMyOldLife · 09/04/2021 21:27

^The foundation that keeps the stability of our country?*

It actually does. It is better that the British people are loyal to a monarch than a megalomaniac president like Blair or another crap leader that we usually get. Haven't you noticed that we have a form for voting in utter tossers?

blowinahoolie · 09/04/2021 21:27

@CurlyhairedAssassin

my dh just said he read theyve cleared the schedules for tomorrow aswell

Well, if there is any good feeling left towards the monarchy I think this will just about kill most of it off......

My teens were barely aware of his existence. They get confused between him and Chaz Pops.

Definitely over the top if this is true.
UrAWizHarry · 09/04/2021 21:27

Not everyone is a fawning subject. Sooner we get rid of the freeloading wastes of space the better.

He was 99. Yes, I'm sure it's sad for the family but personally I couldn't give a fuck.

Keyring · 09/04/2021 21:28

Each to his own. No need to swear though.

CatAndHisKit · 09/04/2021 21:28

120,000 people dead but let's stop everything
Don't you have iplayer, or channel 4 at least with Gogglebox? or lots of other minor channels?
They've hardly stopped EVERYTHING. I think most people can bear one evening of paying respects.

tobee · 09/04/2021 21:29

There is no way that comedy programmes will be going out at the moment; especially topical ones like Have I Got News For You or The Now Show. But you would have thought that bbc & itv would have suitable alternatives? Something innocuous? I actually think it's an interesting and important debate. Shows how traditional terrestrial tv is becoming largely obsolete.

StoneofDestiny · 09/04/2021 21:29

It's ridiculous, thank goodness for I player.
