EVERYTHING is "out of stock"

Literally having one of those days. Talk talk is down in my area so I'm ploughing through mobile data. But literally EVERYTHING I'm trying to order is out of stock and it's driving me mad! I'm trying to find garden furniture, a bin store, a new rug, clothes for my daughter - it goes on and on!!

Just ranting!!!!!

MirandaMarple · 09/04/2021 18:08

Most of the stuff from the shops you list will probably come from Asia via the Suez Canal.

thebillyotea · 09/04/2021 18:09

Everything from Europe is surprisingly flowing thick and fast, and only today it was reported that the trade between UK and Europe is back to normal!!

Absolute bollocks.

I ended up buying some things to be shipped from AUSTRALIA of all places because nothing I needed or wanted was coming from mainland Europe.

This nonsense is doing wonder for the environment...

ivfbeenbusy · 09/04/2021 18:09

@LemonRoses

It’s what people voted for, sadly.
Or it could be because of a global pandemic and all retail being shut down the last 4 months 🤔
cheeseandpicklesandie · 09/04/2021 18:10

I reckon Argos will go under soon. I had to order my toddler climbing frame from Symths toys instead. Next prob due to change of weather some sunshine I bought summer clothes for the kids easily when it was colder a few weeks back.

ListeningQuietly · 09/04/2021 18:10

Container ship : Minor hiccup on stuff that was not yet due to be in UK warehouses

COVID : Caused a few supply issues in the early months but settled down

Brexit : Many businesses have stopped selling to the UK. Haulage costs have skyrocketed. Import VAT on goods from Europe increasing prices.
Will get worse once the UK starts border controls

Pet food : The collapse in fishing has reduced the supply of fish meal that is made into cat food. It will get worse.

Greenvalleysightseeker · 09/04/2021 18:12

Its the same with kitchen appliances, I was on AO direct pricing up appliances for our new kitchen and for EVERY appliance, only one or two out of the twenty or thirty they sell is in stock. Slightly alarming!

Mellonsprite · 09/04/2021 18:12

@Buttybach

I have noticed a distinct lack of stock of older girls nightwear Garden furniture and garden spas are Are all out of stock
Yes snd older girls leggings, all the ones I chose were out of stock online, went to supermarket snd sand there.
Mellonsprite · 09/04/2021 18:12

Same there

LadyDanburysCane · 09/04/2021 18:13

@GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER

A lot of its more likely to be down to the Suez blockage than to Brexit. Though many do enjoy blaming everything on Brexit, I know.
I doubt it unless the companies I was trying to buy things from had a crystal ball. Unable to get ANY exercise equipment or spares for the equipment I do have for MONTHS. Tried to order a new coffee table in January only to find that it would take 28 WEEKS before delivery (not a bespoke item, just a standard item from Next).
PishFood · 09/04/2021 18:13

I am finding some things that I want massively more expensive than a few weeks ago or out of stock (example garden shed and guinea pig cage).

MNWorldisCrazy · 09/04/2021 18:14

@pepsicolagirl

which rug? I have been looking for one for MONTHS but just have no idea and I don't want to order what turns out to be a thick blanket
Try Rug Love
LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 09/04/2021 18:14

Doesn't most of that stuff come from China/Asia? Why are some posters so quickly leaping to the idea that it's because of Brexit? It this just a thread to moan endlessly about that again?

I voted to remain but honestly, if Brexit would have meant a veto of Far Eastern imports I would have voted for that in a heartbeat. Buying cheap crap isn't sustainable and the shops listed above, specialise in that.

Giantrooster · 09/04/2021 18:14

I'm in the EU, just did a quick check. Apparently no shortage in garden furniture here, so guess it's not the suez.

CodMouth · 09/04/2021 18:15

We gave up on Argos a year or so ago. Everything is out of stock unless you want to try a five hour drive.

EastWestWhosBest · 09/04/2021 18:16

@littlepattilou

PMSL at people blaming Brexit.

Is Brexit the reason for the rain, and the snow the other day?

Probably to blame for Covid 19 and Prince Philip's death too.

LMFAO!

No. But many smaller businesses no longer want to sell to the uk because the paper work is such a ball ache.

But you go and laugh it up.

ivfbeenbusy · 09/04/2021 18:17

I've had no issues with Argos. 99% of what I've wanted in stock at either my local branch or a few miles drive to the next one (less than 10 miles)

If you live in the sticks with one Argos covering an area of 100 miles then yeah you might struggle for stock but most city branches are stocked

And pretty obvious that garden furniture etc would be low on stock/out of stock. Bit like complaining all the Easter eggs have sold out the day before Easter Sunday 🤷‍♀️

SarahBellam · 09/04/2021 18:18

@Dollygirl2008

I need a drink Wine
At least drink is in stock.
peak2021 · 09/04/2021 18:19

Please if you have elections in your area on May 6th express your view by voting for someone other than the Conservative Party.

MissConductUS · 09/04/2021 18:19

@Horehound

Yes we are waiting three months for a dishwasher.

Yay Brexit Hmm

Appliances are in short supply in the US as well. It's a global problem due to covid lockdowns, supply chains and shipping shortages.

I'm in the US and I waited two months for a new fridge that was made in Mexico.

jessstan2 · 09/04/2021 18:19

I can spare you a few toilet rolls, Dolly.....

Thatwentbadly · 09/04/2021 18:20

@Luckyelephant1

I just want an outdoor egg chair but there are NONE
Apparently they are in stock in our local b and m.
mustlovegin · 09/04/2021 18:20

Nothing I've searched for has been or is out of stock.

Brace yourself for the usual suspects' endless wailing OP

whatsleep · 09/04/2021 18:22

IKEA? We have ordered garden furniture from them, the delivery charge is actually quite reasonable although you can do click and collect if there’s a store near you with stock.

Ijustknowitstimetogo · 09/04/2021 18:23

Covid affecting production, transportation, storage and increased supply of certain products as well

Exactly. There’s a massive shortage of Japanese and Chinese products as well.

It’s the pandemic mostly. Also happening in America, from The Atlantic site:-

In just a few months, the pandemic has turned the all-encompassing, carefully constructed institution of American consumerism on its head. Supplies of basic household goods such as paper towels and all-purpose flour have only partially recovered, and mundane, seemingly random items join the list of shortages constantly—inflatable kayaks, kettlebells, ceramic tile, seeds, foot peels, many things sold in aluminum cans. The problem of pandemic commerce doesn’t lie simply with low supply or high demand. Instead, the coronavirus has eaten away at the entire system by which things are bought and sold in America, and few signs of improvement are on the horizon.

My son gave me a lift to the Pets at Home store yesterday, he bought all his dog stuff, but most of the cat food shelves were empty. Not just the usual Whiskas and Felix. but all the other expensive brands as well. ( my three cats are annoyed now ! )
