EVERYTHING is "out of stock"

Literally having one of those days. Talk talk is down in my area so I'm ploughing through mobile data. But literally EVERYTHING I'm trying to order is out of stock and it's driving me mad! I'm trying to find garden furniture, a bin store, a new rug, clothes for my daughter - it goes on and on!!

Just ranting!!!!!

@CovidCorvid

I think garden furniture is because of covid, people are sorting their gardens out to have friends round outside. Try and find a patio person... All booked up. Tesco had garden furniture today though.

Pet food shortages according to assistant in pets at home is due to brexit.

Nope. Brexit. (Suez Canal palaver hasn't helped either)
GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 09/04/2021 17:57

A lot of its more likely to be down to the Suez blockage than to Brexit.
Though many do enjoy blaming everything on Brexit, I know.

EndoplasmicReticulum · 09/04/2021 17:58

It's not Brexit that is holding up my garden furniture but the boat wedged sideways in the Suez.

If you're a business with a website - why don't you provide the ability to select "things you can actually have" rather than having to click each individual item to find out if it's in stock or not?

Unmellowbirds · 09/04/2021 17:58

I think it's more likely to be down to the pandemic. Lots of Next clothing comes from factories in the Far East and logistics to/from there has definitely been affected in the past year. I've had to send three parcels by courier there this year and they've all taken over a week rather than the usual 3 days, which is due to Covid, apparently. I also wonder if factory output is the same if they are subject to local restrictions or workforce are absent.

viques · 09/04/2021 17:59

@Iminaglasscaseofemotion

It was the same with anything for the garden this time last year.
Friends of mine want /need a new garden shed. Local supplier laughed when they phoned and said he isn’t even taking any more advanced orders until August!
SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 09/04/2021 18:00

I used to think that, as soon as I set foot in the door of a shop, someone would scuttle round taking out everything I was looking for - it is the only explanation for why they always had plenty of stock in the wrong size/colour, but never what I wanted.

Now they have given that job to some computer boffin - probably working from home now - who sees me go on line and rushes round the internet, deleting very thing I want or marking it out of stock.

It’s a conspiracy, I tell you!

FourteenthDoctor · 09/04/2021 18:01

I tried to buy decking but couldn’t get hold of any for ages due to previously stated ‘national shortage’ garden furniture due in end of April fingers crossed!

Itsalonghaul · 09/04/2021 18:01

Actually most of your stuff is still stuck in the Suez canal! If you asked your supplier, this is what they would tell you.

Four separate suppliers told me that all of their stock is stuck, should be here next week! Honestly.

viques · 09/04/2021 18:02

@KoalaOok

My local Tesco is out of Marmite
The other week my local Waitrose didn’t have any tomato paste in tubes. It was distressing.
borntobequiet · 09/04/2021 18:02

The effects of Covid will pass and the delays caused by the Suez blockage will work their way through. The effects of Brexit are here to stay and will get worse, not better. There are no advantages to Brexit whatsoever, unless you are one of those who engineered and facilitated it, in which case you’ll probably do well out of it, having moved your money elsewhere (like Rees Mogg).

Haveyoubrushedyourteeth · 09/04/2021 18:02

@luckyelephant1 I don't know if theres a store near you but Morrison's have egg chairs in their garden centre bit, so could be worth having a look online. If I'd seen them on the way in rather than the way out I'd have got one myself.

MarinPrime · 09/04/2021 18:03

I think it's because many people have saved money over the past year by not going on holiday, not going out etc and want to buy lots of stuff.

FourteenthDoctor · 09/04/2021 18:03

And what with the “delivered in 15 weeks” on next garden furniture - be cold by then again!

Jenasaurus · 09/04/2021 18:03

@Proudboomer

I have been trying to buy garden furniture but everything reasonable priced is out of stock. I don’t think it is anything to do with brexit and more to do with people being allowed to met up outdoors and it being unlikely we will get holidays abroad this year so people are splurging on making the garden nice.
Robert Dyas has some nice garden furniture suprisingly. I didnt realise they sold it, but nice and solid and they assemble it for you too
flumposie · 09/04/2021 18:03

I'm going round in circles trying to find anything garden related; paint, furniture. All out of stock or ridiculous prices. What annoys me the most is people buying things they don't actually want just to sell them on ebay for twice the price Sad

Buttybach · 09/04/2021 18:04

I have noticed a distinct lack of stock of older girls nightwear
Garden furniture and garden spas are Are all out of stock

Itsalonghaul · 09/04/2021 18:04

Most people's furniture and all big ticket items being described on here are not hand made in Florence for most people, but from China, via the thousands of tankers stranded!!

Everything from Europe is surprisingly flowing thick and fast, and only today it was reported that the trade between UK and Europe is back to normal!!

www.telegraph.co.uk/business/2021/04/09/trade-france-bounces-back-pre-brexit-levels/

But don't let the actual truth stand in your way Confused

LimitIsUp · 09/04/2021 18:04

I managed to buy a patio heater a few weeks ago before they went 'poof' in a cloud of smoke

islockdownoveryet · 09/04/2021 18:06

Absolutely garden furniture all out of stock and don’t even bother with Aldi egg chairs they are like gold dust . People are staying up all night to but when they go online . You’ve more chance wining the lottery . I’ve given up trying to shop online .

HedgeOwl · 09/04/2021 18:06

Screws and nails, big signs up in B&Q/wickes etc saying out of stock everywhere.

Boph · 09/04/2021 18:06

It's not Brexit it's that boat that siezed up the suez canal.
Garden furniture is out of stock partly because much of it comes from China and partly because we all want to sit outside.

Echobelly · 09/04/2021 18:06

I think a lot of places are just keeping in stock the most popular stuff so if you want anything that isn't totally normative and average (furniture that isn't grey, suit for a boy that isn't black, navy or grey etc) they're not bothering to stock it.

thebillyotea · 09/04/2021 18:06

@WallaceinAnderland

Just as well. Consumerism is bad for the planet Smile
what do you suggest? That I knit some clothes and shoes for my kids from grass or something?
HedgeOwl · 09/04/2021 18:07

@Itsalonghaul if the stranded tanker was only recently, why was garden furniture out of stock the previous 3 months? I’m looking at September for something pre tanker wedging.

raincamepouringdown · 09/04/2021 18:08

I've noticed a number of friends have been busy making garden furniture out of pallets to cut costs. Because everything left is expensive and everyone needs to be in the gardens for the foreseeable.
