Literally having one of those days. Talk talk is down in my area so I'm ploughing through mobile data. But literally EVERYTHING I'm trying to order is out of stock and it's driving me mad! I'm trying to find garden furniture, a bin store, a new rug, clothes for my daughter - it goes on and on!!

Just ranting!!!!!

Homebase are struggling with garden furniture. Apparently it's a knock on effect of their suppliers struggling to get raw materials over the last year.
I've heard the same about kitchen appliances from them.
I got an outdoor rug from George at Asda not too long ago OP.

From the business press this week, but we don't want to let facts get in the way of a good anti-Brexit moan do we?

Trade between the UK and France bounced back towards normal in March as firms adjusted to life after Brexit, according to analysis by French customs officials.

Imports from Britain climbed to 107pc of typical levels after taking Covid effects into account, the research found - with exports back at 96pc.

French trade with Britain fell by 20pc at the start of 2021 as the UK embarked on a new trading relationship with the European Union, sparking claims from critics that businesses would be permanently damaged by new red tape.

But the latest figures will raise hopes of a swift recovery as businesses get to grips with customs arrangements.

German figures for February also showed a marked improvement. Exports from Germany to the UK were down 12.2pc compared with the same month last year, while imports from Britain fell 26.9pc, up from January falls of 29pc and 56pc respectively.

@KoalaOok

My local Tesco is out of Marmite
Marmite is made from the sludge left after brewing beer. Breweries have cut production while pubs are closed - ergo no sludge available to make Marmite.

Where I work all out special buys (Aldi) are hugely delayed because of the Suez ship. Even though the boats are loving the ports have a huge back log so boats can't actually port and move their cargo. Lots of UK bound ships arw having to detour to mainland Europe and get the stock trucked in. All these issues are causing massive delays especially with the Brexit delays too

PMSL at people blaming Brexit

It is Brexit, FFS. It's not a random idea, its fact.

cyclingmad · 09/04/2021 19:02

Ah well, so what if you have to wait its not exactly something you desperately need to survive.

Society has been used to grtting what it wants, when it wants, instant gratification. Doesn't do nay harm to have to wait a little bit.

DO you have link or series of links to back up your claim that everything the OP wants is out of stock solely due to Brexit?
btwwhichonespink · 09/04/2021 19:05

Argos is always out of stock but never removes items from the website. Their website is actually a disgraceful time waster. It should be illegal to keep advertising things you don't have in stock and never restock.

KoalaOok · 09/04/2021 19:06

Sandunesandseashells yes I know - I've been trying to encourage my relatives to drink beer to keep production up! I've been lucky enough to find supplies until now though. I've been eyeing up the supermarket own brand alternative.

In what way does Brexit affect the availability of stock on Argos's website? Other than a day or two delay at Dover or Calais, I can't see how it can be held responsible for Argos's poor stock control system, which has been the same for years.

Agreed. The Argos website is a complete waste of time. You have to get to the very end to find there is no stock left anywhere near you!
waddlemyway · 09/04/2021 19:07

Brexit is only a tiny cog in a vast system of complex wheels. A massive shipping-container problem (bolstered by covid and lockdown) is currently impacting international trade in a big way.

WeatherwaxLives · 09/04/2021 19:07

I haven't been able to get tesco own brand fizzy water for weeks. It's literally fizzed up tap water ffs!

I'm also trying desperately to order furniture for MIL who's having to move from a furnished flat to an unfurnished flat. Complete nightmare.

Shorthairlady · 09/04/2021 19:07

@Proudboomer I found some lovely garden furniture at a company called Aosom. Came in two days. Shame the sun decided to become very shy all of a sudden Grin

2018SoFarSoGreat · 09/04/2021 19:08

@Dollygirl2008 build a bin store you say? Well, it is your lucky day! I have been watching The Pottery Throwdown (or whatever it is called, and am much enamored of the beautiful brick buildings they are working in. I also watched very, very carefully when they actually had a brick making challenge. I am quite sure it is something I can do for you.

I don't have a kiln, nor any potting or brick making talent, tools or materials, and I am somewhat restricted in my travel (I admittedly am in the USA) at the moment, but if you want me to, I can try my best to help.

Just offering, as they say.

YawnyOwl · 09/04/2021 19:11

WTF this is nothing to do with Brexit and everything to do with the garden season rush plus everyone online shopping?

mustlovegin · 09/04/2021 19:12

Never let a good spin get in the way of reality Hmm

WalkinginMemphis2 · 09/04/2021 19:13

Urghhhh I am so with you!!

Some places just haven’t even had stock to be out of stock of M&S and John Lewis’ children’s/baby clothes selection has been pitiful for going on 9 months!

I ordered a shirt from Europe last week though as it out of stock in all retailers that sold it here, came quickly and it’s been 5 days now and doesn’t look like I’ve got to pay any excess duty or whatever they’re calling it. So that was one small plus.

ilovesushi · 09/04/2021 19:13

Yup. Waitrose out of catfood today and can't find a sports bra online to fit me! Garrrr

willstarttomorrow · 09/04/2021 19:13

Covid has had a huge impact on productivity due to social distancing etc. Then there was the big stuck boat. Finally Brexit- people seem really shocked to learn that we left the biggest free trade agreement in the world and bureaucracy around imports and prices have gone up.

WalkinginMemphis2 · 09/04/2021 19:14

As an aside Zara home had some really nice rugs the other week.

willstarttomorrow · 09/04/2021 19:16

Obviously the UK are such prolific manufacturers and producers that leaving brexit has no impact at all.

WalkinginMemphis2 · 09/04/2021 19:17

@willstarttomorrow I was listening to a radio programme last week and I can’t remember the cubic volume or whatever of the container but it’s one lots of smaller suppliers/retailers use it was £50 it’s now £350. Since Brexit. Insanity.

Iflyaway · 09/04/2021 19:19

Yes we are waiting three months for a dishwasher. Shock

I could order one online right now and have it here within 3 days barring Sundays of course.

Yes, I live in Europe.

And no, it's not a boast but what should be the norm. Sorry you're going through that. So frustrating.

LemonRoses · 09/04/2021 19:19

@LyingWitchInTheWardrobe

Doesn't most of that stuff come from China/Asia? Why are some posters so quickly leaping to the idea that it's because of Brexit? It this just a thread to moan endlessly about that again?

I voted to remain but honestly, if Brexit would have meant a veto of Far Eastern imports I would have voted for that in a heartbeat. Buying cheap crap isn't sustainable and the shops listed above, specialise in that.

Well perhaps because there were shortages before the ship got stuck. Perhaps because the ship is now clear and shipping is flowing. Perhaps because it’s not just produce from the Far East.
